Looking for something a little out of the ordinary for a getaway in rural Northumberland? Then look no further than this quirky, Alpine-style holiday lodge. Nestling in beautiful grounds, the lodge has outside terraces and secret gardens, perfect for relaxing and taking in the sounds of the birds and the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
Inside it is charming and quirky. The open plan living space and dining area are perfect for that special get-together with friends or family. There is a large wood burner for the cooler nights, with comfy sofas to curl up on. Décor is as you would expect of a lodge, with wooden floors and panelling, tartans and checks and it has a wonderful homely feel to it. Comfortably catering for up to six people, with a well-equipped shaker style kitchen and modern appliances. Should you wish to rustle up brunch or a hearty supper. Upstairs are three good sized bedrooms with king size, super king and twin beds. The kingsize bedroom has doors leading out onto a spacious decked balcony where you can sit and enjoy views of the gardens and beyond. A large bathroom with sumptuous underfloor heating completes this floor. Outside is where the fun begins. Pop on a robe and take a dip in the hot tub, surrounded by trees and shrubbery, it’s a perfect hideaway. Find a quiet spot to read a book, or set the table and enjoy an al fresco supper. Steps lead off into a secluded garden with fruit trees and benches to sit and a raised pergola, a perfect spot to sit and enjoy a glass of bubbly. The garden opens up into a paddock and the most amazing wall to wall views of the Tyne Valley and North Cumbrian Fells. An elevated decking area sits in the farthest spot with uninterrupted views of the countryside beyond. As night draws in, take a warm throw to wrap up and sit and experience the amazing starry skies above Northumberland.
Out and about this is a fabulous place to explore with so much to see and do. Set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, the Scottish borderland and the Lake District National Park, which is just an hour away. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. A must visit is the historic market town of Hexham, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops, stop for a coffee or take a stroll along the river. Locally there is an abundance of eateries to choose from. A nearby inn serving good food and ales offers astronomers a star gazing experience and is a 20-minute walk away, with nearby Haltwhistle, Bardon Mill and Hexham offering a range of pubs and restaurants. As you drive into the country and leave the hustle and bustle behind, you can really feel at one with nature in this beautiful place. Surrounded by farmland, grazing sheep in the fields and a wide variety of wildlife and birds. A real adventure ground for the children! Dating back to the 1800’s when the neighbouring mill was built, Burnside House has been in the family for five generations. Enjoying a tranquil spot with views across the stream of Willimotswick Castle, the birthplace of Bishop Ridley.
The cottage has been completely restored throughout in 2021 providing a comfortable and stylish holiday home. Inside the cottage, an open staircase separates the spacious living/dining room, tastefully decorated, with chesterfield sofas and chairs, two electric stoves set within inglenooks and large farmhouse table it’s a perfect social space. The newly installed kitchen and utility are well equipped with all the necessary appliances you will need throughout your stay. Upstairs the en-suite master bedroom looks out across the stream to the castle, with kingsize bed, dressing area and stylish furniture. Bedroom two can be a family room, with kingsize bed and additional pull out single available on request and suitable for a child. Bedroom three has three bespoke bunk style beds, the two lower beds suitable for adults…children will adore this room! There is a luxurious family bathroom with bath and shower over and an additional downstairs separate toilet. Outside the grounds extend down to the stream, a perfect spot to sit and relax, you might even spot a fish or two swim by! Beat a retreat to the patio where you can take a dip in the hot tub or sit and just take in the joys of the countryside. There is a covered shelter with lighting, table, and chairs for al fresco suppers or for some campfire fun, cosy up round the fire pit and watch the stars - you’ll certainly be undisturbed.

A 20-minute walk will take you across the river to the village of Bardon Mill with picnic area, coffee shop/general store, a hotel serving a varied menu including Thai meals and drinks. From here catch the train - you can be in Newcastle or Carlisle in under 45 minutes. Well House is an imposing, lovingly furnished with Farrow & Ball colour schemes, Grade II listed home dating back to the early 1700s (circa 1640), which retains many of its original period features, being high ceilings and exposed beams. Formerly the Angel Inn, Well House faces the high street in the popular village of Belford. This property was believed to have been protected throughout war due to the property being the main source of water for the village, and amazingly the well still remains in the cellar of this historic property! Well House has significant historical local importance and legend. Directly next door to the property there is award-winning Well House Café which offers the most mouth-watering home cooked bakes and breakfasts, ideally located.
Sleeping 8 guests over 2 floors with three bedrooms plus a master suite boasting outstanding features throughout, this property is ideal for a large gathering of family or friends to celebrate a special occasion. Belford, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a quaint village retreat in an excellent location for cyclists, walkers, historians, and families to explore Bamburgh, Seahouses, Berwick, Alnwick, Holy Islands and Cheviot Hills in Northumberland National Park. It also has pubs serving food, fish & chips, restaurants, newsagents, farm shop, museum, church, and supermarket, along with some great local walks. The picture-postcard, coastal village of Bamburgh, dominated by its majestic fortress and wide expanse of golden, sandy beach is only 5 miles away.

Stonyfield Cottage is the ideal get away for couples, friends or families, It offers a tranquil and relaxing location with beautiful countryside views. Set on the outskirts of Rochester, within the Northumberland National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a designated Dark Sky area. The cottage is only a few hundred yards from the A68 up an old Roman road known as Bremenium Way. Rochester is very close to the popular, historical and picturesque village of Otterburn.
At the South-facing rear of the property, there is a large decked area with plenty of outdoor seating, looking out onto an expansive wildlife garden with far-reaching views towards Kielder Forest. The decked area also houses the hot tub where visitors are able to enjoy for the ultimate in relaxation and stargazing. In the winter months they can enjoy the most fabulous wood burning stove and cosy up in front of the large smart TV where you can enjoy Netflix and Amazon.
A sunroom and separate dining room ensure there is plenty of space for two families to spread out, along with a large living room and kitchen/diner. The area around Stonyfield Cottage is rural and unspoilt with lots of outdoor activities to enjoy including plenty of walks along the many footpaths and cycling around Kielder Forest and Kielder Water (which is only 15 miles via the Forest Drive route or a little further should you wish to take the main road route). Walking, Hiking and Fishing are particularly popular around the area. The Scottish Border at Carter Bar is a mere 12 miles so you can easily visit Scotland whilst holidaying at Stonyfield. The border towns of Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh are also easily accessible from here. Of course, you will want to visit Hadrian’s Wall, maybe stop off at Housesteads Roman Fort or why not take a trip over to the Northumberland Heritage Coast, only 32 miles to Warkworth Beach where you can spend a wonderful day exploring castles and beaches up and down this golden coastline.

Whittle Dene Reservoir House is a Grade ll listed building, built in 1848 by the well-known architect John Dobson for the Gateshead and Newcastle Water Company. The reservoir is set in beautiful Northumberland countryside and is the perfect place for a quiet day of coarse fishing. A visit to the historic market town of Hexham is recommended, with stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, galleries, and antiques or take a riverside stroll. The golden beaches on the Heritage Coast are also within easy reach and make a lovely day out. The vibrant city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne is also only a 25-minute drive. There are woodland walks straight from your door this lodge is perfectly located to enjoy your chill out break. With large reclining corner sofas and an optimist fire, the living area is a cosy place to sit and watch a film on the TV on an evening. On site there is a small bar area at the end of the park near the golf course (golf is free for visitors). Located only a mile from the A1 the location is ideal for travelling around this super friendly county where you are guaranteed of a real warm Geordie welcome. Head north only a few minutes to Alnwick where the majestic castle featured in Harry Potter lies, here you can discover the history of Alnwick then browse the shops and cafes. Only a few miles from Morpeth, a historic town with riverside walks and rowing boats, a lovely Edwardian Shopping Arcade and a great choice of bars and restaurants. Discover the miles and miles of golden sandy beaches set along the heritage coast visit Craster famous for its kippers, or Seahouses with a real seaside holiday feel. Nearby Amble has a popular Sunday morning market, cute shopping pods and a working harbour with plenty of places to have a lovely Sunday Lunch. Head north a little way and you will come to Alnwick, home of the Duke of Northumberland who resides in the majestic castle. Step back in time for a wonderful day trip and see the castle where some Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes were filmed.

A further double bedroom and a twin room are located downstairs as well as a family bathroom, well-equipped kitchen/dining room and spacious living area. To the back of the property is an enclosed garden with decking that houses a fantastic hot tub, the ideal place to sit back, relax and enjoy your holiday! The Byre is close to Chatton Trout Fishery, a well-stocked 14-acre lake trout fishery which provides an excellent day out for any keen participants!

Chatton is a picturesque village that has a shop and a pub which serves food. Slightly further afield is the friendly small town of Wooler (known locally as Glendale; the inspiration for ‘Postman Pat’s, Greendale’) only 5 miles inland. This is a popular destination for those who enjoy cycling, golf, horse riding and walking with the challenging St Cuthbert’s Way close by.

Bamburgh is renowned for its majestic fortress and beautiful expanse of golden, sandy beach and is only 11 miles east. The elegant Georgian town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which straddles the salmon rich River Tweed, and the cobbled, market town of Alnwick, protected by its dramatic castle, both offer a wide array of amenities around half an hour’s drive away. Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction to see the Grand Cascade Waterfall and dine in the restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe!
