The village has a good local pub serving food, as well as a shop for essentials. Staithes is a great place for fossil hunting and in the summer you see many children enjoying searching the rock pools and crevices for these fossils. The village is like stepping back in time with its cobbled streets and quaint, quirky cottages that lead down to the harbour where you can sit and enjoy a drink with the locals at the pub. Staithes has now become a great artists retreat with an excellent art festival held every year.

    The property is perfect for those walkers amongst you as you can walk along the clifftops following the trail to Whitby and further on the Robin Hood’s Bay and Ravenscar. The town of Whitby is just 8 miles away and is one of the most visited fishing towns on the coast, famous for the abbey being the inspiration to Bram Stoker’s book ’Dracula’.     The area is a delight for walkers and cyclists alike, with an abundance of routes to choose from that take in the breathtaking scenery that can be found in all directions. Staithes is popular with tourists and has a number of traditional pubs, a coffee shop and even its own independent art gallery. It has a fascinating history of pirates and smugglers, as well as links to Captain Cook who worked here as a child. Nearby Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a fabulous up and coming holiday destination with plenty of places to eat and drink as well as a pier, and is well known in the area as a surfer’s paradise with a number of schools for those wanting to give it a try. There is also horse riding, fishing at Scaling Dam and golf nearby.
    The Gothic town of Whitby is just 13 miles away and is famous for its links to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It offers a hectic schedule of festivals and events all year round including the Goth Weekend, Folk Week and its own Regatta, as well as cobbled streets full of independent shops and traders. The Whitby Abbey towers over the town and can be reached by climbing the famous 199 steps and affords fantastic views of the town and out to sea.     Originally a fisherman’s cottage, you are tucked away from the high street in the village of Loftus, with a small stream running past the front door. The owners have taken great care in completely renovating this property at the beginning of 2022 to provide a high-quality holiday home with everything required to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay.     Step down into the dining area which is open plan with the bespoke modern kitchen. There is a door from the kitchen leading out into the small rear yard with outdoor seating. Upstairs there are three beautifully presented bedrooms.     There is a family bathroom with a shower over the corner bath, perfect for starting each day refreshed and ready for a day of discovery.     Starting with Skinningrove, a peaceful beautiful beach just a 30 minute steady stroll from the cottage, is great for fossil hunting; further along the coast is gorgeous Runswick Bay, picturesque Staithes, the surfers’ paradise of Saltburn and the historic seafaring town of Whitby with its long golden beach stretching to Sandsend. For walkers there are walking trails across the national park, and within walking distance of stunning beaches, which include the Cleveland Way along the cliff tops, or Roseberry Topping which offers stunning panoramic views.
    If you are fascinated by history visit Guisborough Priory and Whitby Abbey, as well as museums including Staithes Heritage Museum, Whitby’s Captain Cook Museum and Hutton le Holes Folk Museum. On the moors there are many rural villages to visit, or why not enjoy a trip on the steam train to take in the scenery.
    For the adventurous there are water sports including white water rafting, sailing and paddle boarding at Tees Barrage and Scaling Dam, as well as surf schools in Saltburn, Sandsend and Whitby. In Dalby Forest you can zip wire through the treetops.

Dating back to the 1880’s the police station closed in the 1960’s, and the property has since been extended and completely renovated. Hinderwell is a peaceful rural village, it is hard to imagine that the resident bobby saw much action here!
    Inside you have a wonderful country kitchen, well equipped with everything you could wish for when whipping up your favourite meals to share. In the centre of the kitchen you have an island with a pair of stools so that this becomes a social room. The living room is open plan with the dining room – this was once the cell, which is hard to believe in such a bright and welcoming living space. The dining table is large and extendable, so that you can all enjoy meals together. The three piece suite is in front of the TV and electric stove, with large bay windows bathing the room in light. There is additional seating in the sun room which looks out onto the west facing garden, ideal for late afternoon sun.
