In a setting of stunning natural beauty, Mill Bank (ref UK33902) is the latest addition to a superb choice of cottages at Tuckenhay Mill. An extremely spacious two-person cottage having a living, dining, kitchen area on the higher level with two south-facing balconies overlooking the stream towards the Mill. The master bedroom and en-suite shower room are on the lower level, together with the riverside day room. Your own footpath leads from the garden via a footbridge to the facilities at the Mill.
Tuckenhay Mill is the centrepiece of a cluster of country homes and cottages with superb leisure facilities including two indoor and one outdoor pools.
The Mill which once produced some of the finest paper in the land, nestles in the green and shady Bow Creek, a languid inlet of the River Dart where private yachts have replaced the old tall-masted ships and barges. Around the mill are all the buildings which once went to make up a small bustling village port. These listed buildings have been sympathetically restored and converted to a delightful range of holiday properties to suit larger family parties. Awards have been won for the conversion of buildings and the conservation of the area. With so much to do, many holidaymakers return year after year. There is golf nearby and a pub within 1 mile.

Tuckenhay is only a 20-minute drive from the superb award-winning beach at Blackpool Sands and about 30 minutes from a surfing beach at Bantham, as well as some of the best natural beaches to be found anywhere in the UK.
There is also extensive access to the coastal footpath for walking and the wilderness that is Dartmoor for walking, climbing and riding.
This is a mecca for ramblers, bird-watchers, swimmers, surfers, horse riders, golfers and those interested in fishing, boating, sailing and windsurfing.
In addition, there are many historic NT houses to visit including Agatha Christies’s Greenway as well as a local vineyard.
Tuckenhay is only 5 miles inland from Dartmouth and 3 from the market town of Totnes. Village shop 3½ miles. Riverside inn and restaurant within walking distance.

Great care has been taken to retain the feel of the original buildings. Most have garden, terrace or patio. Many cottages have more than one bathroom and some have an en-suite bathroom to every bedroom. Kitchens are comprehensively equipped: most have dishwashers and all have microwave cookers.
Couples and honeymooners will feel snug and comfortable in the cottages: Mill Leat, Mill Stream, Mill Spring and now Mill Bank. Families can spread out in Papermaker’s or Turbine Cottages, while Mill Lodge, Edgecombe Barn and Tuckenhay Mill House will sleep larger parties in comfort. Of course, combinations of cottages can accommodate bigger gatherings of family or friends.

With ground floor accommodation throughout and little touches like the Egyptian bed linen and towels, and a welcome tray with local produce, a warm welcome awaits at The Tack Room. Venture a little further however and you can explore the bustling seaside town of Cromer, with its numerous seaside attractions and great places to eat, drink and shop. Take a walk along the Edwardian seafront and explore the pier, which is perfect for a coffee and the opportunity to savour some famous Cromer Crab. It also boasts the last seasonal end of pier show of its kind, a must for a truly rounded seaside experience. Head west to Blakeney for a spot of crabbing or east and discover all the fun of the fair and heaps more on Great Yarmouth’s Golden Mile. In fact, coast lovers will be spoilt for choice with a range of coastal habitats ready to be explored including sand dunes, salt marshes and wide sand or shingle beaches. Head inland a little and visit Wroxham, the gateway to the Norfolk Broads. Here you can charter your own boat for the day or join a tour that drifts along these much-celebrated waterways. You can even take a nostalgic journey by steam train on the Bure Valley Railway enjoying the scenic countryside as you travel to the popular market town of Aylsham.
For a change of pace, head to the historic city of Norwich, either by car or from nearby Gunton Train Station. There is so much to explore in this fine city which is a regular on City Break Hotlists. Try a tour around the Norman castle or one of the numerous museums, galleries or theatres and then do a bit of shopping on the award-winning market or in the medieval courtyards and renowned Norwich Lanes. Add in the Thursford and Muckleburgh Collections, The Felbrigg, Blickling, Holkham and Sandringham Estates, Amazonia Zoo, Bewilderwood, Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, RSPB Cley Marshes, Sheringham Park, North Norfolk Railway and so very much more and you will soon see why guests flock to this area time and time again. The Old Forge is a sympathetically converted, detached 200-year old cottage retaining many character features, and has an enclosed garden. It has barn owls for neighbours - they nest in the adjoining barn!
The dog friendly property is tucked away in a peaceful lane adjacent to the owner’s home on the edge of the picturesque village of Beckermet. It is situated close to Whitehaven with its historic harbour, marina and shops, which has twice been named as a Brita resort, and St Bees with its expanse of sandy beaches.
This is an ideal location from which to explore the wonderful Western Fells of the Lake District National Park and the Cumbrian coastline. Ennerdale Water and Wastwater, once voted ’Britain’s Best View’ and nearby Scafell Pike, are within easy driving distance. For a superb day out, Muncaster Castle also has beautiful gardens and an internationally renowned Owl Sanctuary, not to mention the amazing views from its elevated position. Day permits for trout fishing are available within half a mile. Beach 1½ miles. Shop 3¾ miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

You enter this charming cottage straight into the living/dining room, with a lovely large window overlooking the pretty front garden. With a patio and lawn, this is a balmy sunny spot for the summer months. A Smart TV complete with Netflix account provided and an Amazon Echo speaker allow you to enjoy your holiday with all the mod cons. In winter with the open fire lit, the cottage is warm and welcoming. The well-equipped kitchen has a small table for two for a quiet morning cup of tea before the rest of the house wakes. On the first floor, the master bedroom to the front of the property offers a double bed overlooking the garden. The famous Mermaid Inn can be glimpsed from the window too. In bedroom two, the Laura Ashley wallpaper and pretty floral bed throw provide a comfy bedtime retreat. From the kitchen you have a door leading to the small courtyard with table and chairs for enjoying balmy summer evenings.

Step out of your front door and you have a pretty tea room at the end of the row of terraces, handy if you don’t fancy cooking breakfast or for sampling their cake offerings after a day out exploring. You are perfectly situated for the local deli, banks, greengrocers, restaurants, pubs and everything else you would expect from a bustling high street. A gentle stroll and you can visit the Heritage Centre, where you can watch the town model’s ’Sound and Light’ show which goes into detail about the history and the colourful past of Rye and its inhabitants. Just a 10-minute drive away is the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy flora and fauna. You can choose to walk out to Camber Castle, originally located on a shingle spit and where once it protected the towns of Rye and Winchelsea before the sea receded. Although no longer open to visitors it is still a striking landmark worth a visit.

The award-winning beach of Camber Sands is just a short drive away and has miles of sandy beach and dunes to explore. Visit the rock pools at low tide on the pebbly beach at Pett Level, just a 10-minute drive from Rye. The towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a 30-minute drive away and here you can get mainline trains to London if you wish to explore the capital for a day. The towns of Tenterden and Canterbury are all within easy reach by car and are well worth a visit. If you would like to take a day trip to the continent, the Eurostar can be picked up from Ashford International station and trains to Paris, Lille and Bruges are available. Alternatively, the ferries run from Dover just 45 minutes away or the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone, a 45-minute drive.

Swansfield Stables is situated on the outskirts of Alnwick and enjoys a tranquil setting on a smallholding. The original stables is thought to have been designed by the acclaimed 19th century Newcastle architect John Dobson. At the rear of Swansfield Stables there is a peaceful cobbled courtyard which gives access to a detached former cart shed, which has been beautifully transformed to create this self-catering holiday accommodation. The open plan living space covers the entire ground floor where a wood burner creates a cosy ambience. The family bedroom and shower room are on the first floor and immaculately presented throughout.

The welcoming owners of Swansfield Stables are conveniently on hand giving ample privacy to guests but happy to help ensure visitors enjoy their stay. There is shared use of a wood fired pizza oven available along with outdoor furniture; an idyllic spot to dine al fresco.

There is a wide array of amenities available within the heart of the historic market town of Alnwick, most within half a mile. Alnwick Garden is a popular tourist attraction where there is a spectacular Cascade Waterfall and restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe. Alnwick Castle is also well worth a visit.

The picturesque town of Rothbury, which sits at the foot of the Simonside Hills, is a short drive to the west. The National Trust property at Cragside is situated on the edge of Rothbury and is nestled within 1000 acres to explore.

Heading east of Alnwick is the stunning Heritage coastline which this area is renowned for. With miles of golden, sandy beaches to discover, Swansfield Stables makes an excellent base from which to explore the heather-clad hills to the west and the stunning seashore to the east. Close to both coast and countryside the cottages allow you to take full advantage of the scenic, traditional British seaside town of Filey, while for those who enjoy striding out along rural trails, the North York Moors are on your doorstep. The cottages have an open, shared lawn to the front of the properties, and a well-equipped games room and children’s play area. Filey is a traditional Edwardian seaside town. A perfect place for an active holiday or just to relax. The five mile stretch of sandy beach is protected by the rocky grandeur of Filey Brigg. Surfing, fishing, yachting, golf, walking and bird watching are just a few of the available activities. The Evron Centre provides plentiful entertainment with music, song, dance and theatre on offer. Filey has many restaurants and hostelries providing superb cuisine. Should you wish to travel further afield you will find that Yorkshire glories in one of the finest stretches of coastline in Britain, golden beaches, rocky coves and towering cliffs. Further to the north is Whitby, a picturesque fishing port and inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Moors Railway, 18 miles of preserved railway are both close by, as is Flamingo Land. Shops 3 miles, pub 1 mile.

Rose Cottage is thought to date from the 16th Century. It is situated on the hillside at the end of a row, offering glimpses of the sea from the front sitting out area. A woodburner makes this holiday cottage an ideal getaway for all seasons. Stroll down the hill into the Cinque Port of Hythe with its shops, restaurants and beach.
