Blasted by the breeze off the Atlantic, the magnificent beach at Gwithian Towans is always a colourful scene of windsurfers on the water, blow karts on the beach and kites in the sky. Backed by sand dunes, tufted with wild grass, at low tide, there is a vast amount of sand to enjoy, and large areas of rock pools are uncovered, which are great for kids to explore. The beach is dog friendly for most of the year with restrictions only applying between 10am and 6pm in July and August. Gwithian Towans is lifeguard patrolled (during high season). There is some great countryside to explore near here, but a highlight is the stunning coastal road between St Ives and St Just where the moorland meets the sea - wild and dramatic! If you take the train to St Ives, the line hugs the coast, and the views are quite beautiful, and the restaurants are superb. Both the north and south coasts are easily accessible, making it an ideal location for those looking to take advantage of the great surfing spots available in this part of Cornwall. Mevagissey, EnglandA delightful, dog-friendly, ground floor barn conversion with a family in permanent residence above. Lower Stables has been lovingly decorated with plenty of character features and quality appliances. With its tiled floor, original ceiling beams and plenty of windows letting the light in the open plan living space is warm and inviting, a great place to spread out and relax after a busy day exploring. The village of Tregony is often referred to as the ’gateway to the Roseland’. The extensive Fore Street is a relic from the days when this was a busy port and market town with considerable traffic. The port has long since silted up due partly to china clay workings up stream, but Tregony has retained its charm. The magical Lamorran Woods are alive with bluebells in the spring, and you are as likely to pass deer or pheasants as you are motorists along this stretch of the Roseland. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and the city of Truro are only a short drive away. Heading further into the Roseland, you can find sandy beaches at Pendower, Cream Teas at Mellinsey Mill near Veryan, sailing, and boat trips in St Mawes. St Just, EnglandStone Farm Cottage is a beautifully presented granite cottage with rolling rural views derelict tin mine engine houses dot the landscape and there are magnificent sea views from the top of the garden. A small stream trickles through the garden and there is access to a shared (with the owners) covered swimming pool which is heated and available from the beginning of June until the beginning of September.
Inside is a stylishly decorated, open plan living space with doors leading to the garden, original beams, and a cosy wood burner to warm you up after a day exploring the dramatic coastal scenery or checking out the surf. The well-equipped kitchen area is a joy to cook in, why not take you holiday feast outside and dine al fresco or fire up the BBQ on a beautiful summer evening. Bojewyan is a small settlement to the east of Pendeen which is famous for its industrial heritage. Pendeen village has a general store and Post office and there are four local pubs serving food. The St Just area has a rich mining history and has now been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is also in one of the twelve Cornish Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pendeen Lighthouse and the secluded Portheras Cove and beach are a mile to the north. The coastline in this part of Cornwall is simply outstanding and the road from St Ives to St Just is possibly the most scenic drive in the county. Perranporth, EnglandSpringtide is wonderfully located right by the beach and sand dunes of Holywell Bay. It has a superb open plan living/dining room with two large sliding doors which open onto the sun deck to enhance some al fresco living.
