The beautiful hills and valleys of Teesdale and Weardale are both between 20 and 30 minutes’ drive away, and walkers will find themselves surrounded by some of the most scenic countryside that County Durham has to offer. Hadrian’s Wall can be reached within an hour’s drive too and offers a more historic trail for walkers to take. The Derwent Valley Railway Path leads east towards the outskirts of Durham and is very popular with cyclists, whilst the Waskerley Way leads west and on into the vast open spaces of Weardale.

A few minutes drive from here is the town of Alnwick with its cobbled streets and famous castle which has featured in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. From the harbour, the views towards Warkworth Castle are lovely on a clear day and you can walk to Warkworth from Amble along past the marina and river. Nearby Warkworth is a pretty, picture postcard village dominated by its castle which sits at the top of the village. The local pubs and cafés are all well worth a visit too.

Amble is close to the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching along the beautiful coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed, with miles of golden beaches and castles.
