Situated at the end of a long drive in peaceful countryside between Derby and Melbourne in 3 acres of garden. There is stabling on request. Historic Swarkestone Bridge and Trents water sports area, an historic canal and local pubs are an easy walk. Calke Abbey and Derby with its theatres, clubs, restaurants and good shopping under 15 minutes’ drive. American Adventure 12 miles. Situated just 5 yards from the River Sett and the Sett Valley Trail, in the charming High Peak village of Hayfield, this end-terrace holiday cottage is perfect throughout the summer months with its multi-tiered garden, or the winter months with its cosy wood burner. Home to plentiful pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants, Hayfield itself is overlooked by the Kinder Scout and is most famous for the backdrop from BBC’s drama ‘The Village’. Incredibly popular with walkers and cyclists, the village has a number of public thoroughfares with the beautiful Sett Valley Trail, Kinder Plateau, Pennine Way and Snake Path all easily accessible.

The surrounding area of the Peak District holds many beautiful towns and villages which are easily reached including the small picturesque village of Edale, home to the start/end of the UK’s first long distance walking path - The Pennine Way. Set in the stunning Hope Valley countryside, the rural hill village of Castleton, famous for its caverns, can be reached in half an hour and Bakewell, home to its namesake pudding and the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, can be reached within 45 minutes’. Horse riding can also be found nearby, and for children, Hayfield Park is ¼ mile which consists of playground, zip line, skateboard ramps and a mini bike track. The nearest supermarket is 5 miles away and various supermarkets deliver. Village shop/ post office ¼ mile, pub ¼ mile on foot and restaurant ½ mile.

Abacus House started life out as the local village school in Hackney, Derbyshire. It is believed to date back to 1910. This charming characterful Grade II listed cottage opens its front door onto the open veranda corridor, once having many small feet running along to get to class on time.
Abacus House boasts a very high specification, with a modern stylish kitchen and bathroom, but manages to retain its quirky stylish twists throughout. A large open plan living area leads through to a dining area, still housing the characterful open grate arts and crafts fireplace, and then to the kitchen, with its large feature windows throughout, letting the light flood through the whole of the ground floor. Set within the beautiful area of Matlock, you are within easy reach of one of the most stunning parts of the Peak District. The closest attractions are Matlock and Matlock Bath, giving the opportunity to explore the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom accessed via cable car, and offering spectacular views of the Derwent Valley. From here you can tour the network of caverns and passageways, or walk over 60 acres of woodland hillside. This is an ideal base from which to explore the region’s attractions including the magnificent stately homes. The beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are an absolute must see, or visit the picturesque villages of Bakewell and Ashover (Cardale in TV’s ‘Peak Practice’) which are both close by. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep, plus activities at Carsington Water including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and cycling, plus excellent birdwatching in the surrounding areas.

Look to the rear of the barn and you will discover the original ice house which used to serve the nearby Willersley Castle. This delightful cottage can be found on the edge of the Peak District in the picturesque village of Cutthorpe, down a private country lane on the owner’s non-working farm of 2 acres. Green Farm is surrounded by fields, woodland, footpaths and bridleways with direct access to the Linacre Reservoirs and Holmebrook Country Park. The Pig Sty is a beautifully converted stone barn, situated over two floors. It has been modernised throughout whilst retaining many original features. The ground floor is a large open plan living space complete with a warming wood burner, leather corner sofa, a large LCD TV and exposed stone walls. There is also a fully-equipped kitchen/dining room, a great social space with a large dining table to enjoy a home cooked meal with all the family. Head upstairs where you will find the bathroom and two generously sized bedrooms; a double bedroom which enjoys views over the countryside through the large picture widow and a twin bedroom which is en-suite. After a busy day exploring the surrounding area, the private garden with a covered hot tub (available at an additional charge) is a great place to relax and unwind. Double glazed with underfloor heating downstairs and centrally heated throughout, this barn is perfect for families and groups all year round. Additional towels and gowns are also included.

Cutthorpe has two pubs within walking distance that are dog friendly and serve food. It has a pretty village green and benefits from panoramic views over Chesterfield with its famous crooked spire. The village is located on the edge of the Peak District National Park, yet is only 3 miles from the popular market town of Chesterfield. Its perfect location allows you to explore historic houses, walking, cycling and visiting the tourist towns of Bakewell, Matlock, Castleton, Buxton, Eyam and Hathersage. If its stately homes, castles and gardens you would like to visit, the magnificent Chatsworth House is only 10 minutes drive away; the grounds and house will provide a full day out. Within 30 minutes you can also visit Packwood house, Bolsover castle, Renishaw hall, Haddon hall and Hardwick hall.

For those that are more active, there are numerous options varying from local walks from your door, to more adventurous walks in the Peak District. Cyclists are also well catered for with a variety of road and off road tracks and trails. Additionally there is shooting, canoeing, horse riding, go ape, abseiling, climbing, fishing and golf all available nearby. Alternatively you can just relax and enjoy the tranquillity that Green Farm offers. The nearest shop is 2 miles, café 1½ miles, post office, doctors are all available locally.
