The apartment is perfectly located in an elevated position less than a mile walk from Chesil Beach; it is the ideal base from which to explore the stunning beauty of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and all Dorset itself has to offer. A visit to Portland wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the famous Portland Bill Lighthouse where you can experience the breath-taking views and enjoy the spectacular coastal walks back home to Fortuneswell … you will not want to forget your camera.
Apart from the many local walks and activities such as watersports, sailing, swimming, boating and fishing, there is also a birdwatch observatory, sculpture park, museum, art galleries, Portland Castle and D-Day Museum within easy walking/driving distance or on a convenient bus route. If you are looking to venture further afield, you can always visit the historic town of Dorchester, Abbotsbury Swannery, the spectacular Durdle Door, or Lyme Regis. Newstead Cottage is a charming holiday home that has recently been renovated and now offers fantastic accommodation for four guests. The cottage offers two double bedrooms, a modern stylish bathroom with bath, separate showe and shaving socket, a cosy sitting room separate dining room with open fire and a modern well-equipped kitchen. Outside the cottage offers a westerly-facing garden with off-road parking for two.
This is an excellent location to enjoy Weymouth’s beach, harbour, shops, and many family attractions. There is world-famous sailing on offer with the National Sailing Academy which was home to the 2012 sailing Olympics. Fishing, swimming, and boating are available locally, as well as coastal walking along Chesil Beach and Portland which are all part of the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. The property is also within easy driving distance of Dorchester, Bridport, and Abbotsbury, with its swannery and tropical gardens. Welcome to Allington Cottage, a perfect retreat for couples or a family to enjoy. Stepping inside, on the ground floor there is a cosy living room with a gas effect wood burner, lovely to snuggle in front of on chillier evenings. The spacious dining room is perfect for enjoying meals or playing games together while the well-equipped kitchen has everything you will need for your stay. There is a ground floor bathroom off the rear lobby. Heading upstairs you will find two lovely bedrooms, one double and one with super kingsize bed that can be made into twin beds on request. There is a further large shower room also on this floor. Outside you will find an enclosed rear garden, set on two tiers both laid to patio with an ample seating area to enjoy.
A short walk takes you into the market town of Bridport, with its wonderful mixture of independent and larger stores, cafes and restaurants, and its artists and vintage quarter and Wednesday and Saturday markets to explore and enjoy. Bridport, known as Dorset’s ‘eventful town’, is famous for its many festivals and special events such as the Hat Festival (first weekend in September). There are three arts venues and several live music venues.
Many miles of country walks can be taken straight from the front door or why not jump in the car and explore the numerous Jurassic Coast beaches of nearby West Bay (famous for TV shows Broadchurch and Harbour Lights), Lyme Regis with its Victorian promenade, or fossil hunting on Lyme Regis and Charmouth beaches.
Further afield you have Weymouth with its stretch of sandy beach, Abbotsbury with its Swannery or head inland to Dorchester with its many museums, or one of the many National Trust properties nearby. Seaside Cottage (UKC5932) and Coastguard Cottage (UKC5933) each feature two comfortable double bedrooms. Bedroom one has a kingsize bed that can be made up as twin beds on request, with a sea view and an en-suite shower. Bedroom 2 has a double bed with beautiful sea views. There is also a comfy double sofa bed available in the spacious open plan living area with kitchen.

The beach is just 100 or so yards walk away and this area of Southbourne is quieter than the beaches towards Boscombe and Bournemouth. It is a sandy beach with fantastic views across the ocean and toward the Isle of Wight and The Purbecks. Also within walking distance is Southbourne high street which has a selection of convenience stores, independent restaurants, shops and pubs, including is a wide variety of takeaways and cafés as well.

There are numerous places you can visit nearby including Hengistbury Head which is an area of Scientific Interest due to the abundance of wildlife. Christchurch with its , independent shops, beautiful harbour and wide range of independant shops and eateries is well worth a visit. Bournemouth is also within easy reach with high street of shops, frequent events, cinema, theatre and of course its golden sandy beaches The New Forest with its free-roaming ponies, cattle and donkeys. It is an excellent place to go walking and cycling and is just a short drive away.

For the walkers among us, you have the pick of many miles of coastal walks, on the famous Jurassic Coastline taking in the sites such as Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. Do not forget the camera on this trip. Chesil beach and Portland are a short distance away, here you can explore many small coves perfect for swimming or relaxing on a sunny day. If you are arriving by train, Weymouth train station is located 3-minute walk from the property, this is the perfect place to jump on and explore further afield. A trip on the Land Train from Boscombe to Bournemouth Pier is a must, as there is some wonderful cliff to views and plenty of choice to enjoy stop-offs in the tea rooms, ice cream parlour’s, cafés, traditional pubs and fish restaurants. Then, of course, there is the famous Bournemouth night life, with streets full of restaurants, wine bars, cocktail bars, themed pubs and some amazing night clubs, so you can feast and party through the night! Charter a fishing boat from the harbour, go fossil hunting or take a walk on the spectacular South West Coastal Path. For something more leisurely, there are a plethora of pubs and restaurants in the town just waiting to be discovered. For nature lovers, the area has some of the most diverse scenery in the country. Lyme Bay sweeps round from the National Nature Reserve on the Dowlands Cliffs in an uninterrupted arc along the huge bank of shingle that is Chesil Beach, all the way to the limestone slab of the Isle of Portland. The 626ft Golden Cap, a breath-taking viewpoint and part of a lovely 2,000-acre National Trust Estate, is the highest point on England’s south coast, and a World Heritage Site.
