They lie in the charming village of Newchurch, surrounded by countryside, an area of Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with plenty of walks and cycle and nature trails. Wildlife such as the famous red squirrel, various birds and other wildlife can be seen. Nearby is Amazon World Zoo Park, one of the top family attractions, and Robin Hill Adventure Park. Discover the Garlic Farm and Arreton Barns, or further afield is the picturesque Godshill with model village gift shop and tea rooms. Within a 5-minute drive, visit the popular tourist resort of Sandown, with seaside entertainment including amusements, Tiger Island Zoo, putting, crazy golf, pier leisure centre and waterside dining in one of the many restaurants and cafés. Shanklin is also within easy reach, with the magical Chine, and quaint thatched roofed tea rooms, houses and shops. There is so much to do on this sunny island, plenty of National Trust homes and gardens including Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s former holiday abode, Carisbrooke Mill, Lavender Farm, donkey sanctuary, glass making, dinosaur park and various museums. Peacefully located along a quiet rural lane, this spacious detached family home enjoys a lawned garden and superb far reaching views over local countryside. It is only half a mile from the picturesque village of Brighstone with its thatched roof shops and cottages, pub, restaurant and small museum. This welcoming home has a well equipped kitchen, a conservatory and sea views from the master bedroom. This area is fantastic for scenic walking. Footpaths from the house lead to breathtaking routes across miles of Heritage coastline or onto the Downs, joining the popular Tennyson Trail leading to Tennyson Down with its monument and on to the Needles. West High Down and Headon Warren are other popular walks in the area. Quiet lanes and off-road trails make the area ideal for cycling, and the sign-posted 60 mile ’Round the Island’ cycle route passes through the village. The unspoilt west coast beaches, including the secluded, sandy bay of Compton is within a 10-minute drive, and plenty of outdoor pursuits including sailing, fishing, golf, cycling, paragliding and watersports can be found locally. Part of our ‘More than Dog Friendly’ collection, Holly Cottage is located in an idyllic country lane in the peaceful hamlet of Roud. This comfortable property is less than two miles away from the centre of one of the most picturesque villages on the Isle Of Wight, Godshill. It is suited to walkers, cyclists and guests wanting to enjoy a slice of rural life on their holiday and take in some spectacular walks and countryside views. A one bedroom, single-storey, detached property, it lies adjacent to the owner’s home, and comprises of one kingsize bedroom and a small sofa bed in the open-plan living room. It’s perfect for couples or a small family with a dog, looking for a short break or a week’s holiday, as it provides an ideal central base giving easy access to all of the island’s many attractions. There is a small, enclosed garden and plenty of long walks in the surrounding area for dogs to enjoy. A hairdryer, iron and ironing board are provided within the property.
Godshill has a winding main street lined with a number of fantastic village pubs and tea rooms serving the best local ales and delicious cream scones and jam. The village boasts some of the oldest buildings on the Isle of Wight with its own historic medieval church at the top of the hill and numerous pretty, thatched cottages. There is something for all the family to explore, including a model village, museums, gift shops, pubs and restaurants. For walkers there are also many miles of public footpaths and countryside to explore on your doorstep. The island has become a real hotspot for cycling enthusiasts, with a choice of challenging off-road bridleways, peaceful by-ways and level, purpose-made tracks running along former railway lines.
The popular seaside resorts of Ventnor and Shanklin are around a 15 minute drive away, with lovely parks, gardens and glorious beaches. The island’s capital, Newport, with its many amenities, including a leisure centre and theatre, is also 15 minutes away. Further outdoor pursuits on the island include horse riding, fishing, para-gliding, water sports and golf. There are numerous attractions to discover for all ages, such as The Needles, with its chairlift down to the coloured sands of Alum Bay, with an amusement park, boat rides and a lighthouse. Why not pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and gardens, or visit Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK? Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Tapnell Farm Park, Carisbrooke Castle or the sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes are also well worth a visit. The house is a beautiful 1820 building and the conversion is tasteful and contemporary whilst retaining the original features and was fully renovated May 2019. Exposed beams, high ceilings and large windows with panoramic views offer period elegance with every modern comfort catered for. The rooms are set over three floors, starting with an impressive wide entrance hall with plenty of space and storage available. A utility room and downstairs toilet are also provided for your convenience. The vast show stopping kitchen (custom designed by Tom Howley of Surrey), living room and dining area is the perfect place to spend quality time together. The dining table seating ten or more guests is bordered with windows overlooking the lush green gardens and the garden itself is accessed via patio doors. The patio holds a beautiful outdoor sofa, the perfect place to relax your afternoons and evenings away. There is a gas barbecue to provide culinary delights for your friends and family all within the same setting, so the chef is never far from the party!
The Farmhouse is a perfect base to relax, unwind in and explore this unique corner of Britain. With many attractions, countryside and seaside resorts, there is definitely something for everyone. If you want to stay local, the beautiful Brook Bay is a 2-minute drive away and the sunsets on this side of the island are a must see, just stunning.
Osborne House was once Queen Victoria’s favourite residence and is now open to the public and well worth a visit, as are Carisbrook Castle, The Needles rock formations, Robin Hill park with acres of parkland, natural woodland, countryside gardens, adventures and special events, Ventnor Botanical Gardens and Shanklin Chine, a deep wooded gorge with streams and waterfalls. The model village at Godshill is also not to be missed as this gives a good overview of the island and its attractions, all in miniature of course.
