Lakeside Retreats enjoys a peaceful location tucked away in the Lincolnshire countryside, with all the luxury lodges overlooking the fishing lakes. One of the cosy lodges await you after a day spent exploring the area, with many good country pubs serving food to be found on your travels. Good walks through the park as well as the surrounding area, with many cycle routes from the doorstep. Nearby Grantham, 7 miles away, has a mainline railway station straight into London for a day out in the capital, as well as many good restaurants, pubs, shops and amenities. On-site the fishing is excellent, with huge catfish (30 lbs+) to be found in the lakes. You will have access to fishing across three lakes, and the fishing is only for guests staying on site. The Sanctuary is a beautiful barn conversion which offers a comfortable stay in the Medieval hamlet of Burton Pedwardine, which can trace its history back to before the Norman Conquest and is mentioned in The Domesday Book. The characterful property is set on the owners’ sheep sanctuary and has been stylishly decorated and furnished with a unique flourish (the owners are artists), giving a relaxing home-from-home feeling.
The Sanctuary offers a luxury holiday retreat whilst being ideally located to explore all that Lincolnshire has to offer. The locale is steeped in history and the land is the predominant site of the original medieval village complete with an 11 meter deep well, the village pond and the old road running diagonally across. The Sanctuary is built with salvaged materials from outbuildings which once stood adjacent to the main house and on part of the old village green. The owners built a barn-style property with a double-height ceiling and the slate roof was salvaged from the nearby Victorian Schoolhouse.The property is entered directly into the bright and spacious living area. There is a cosy sitting area which boasts a stunning wood burner providing additional heat and charm along with a Smart TV ideal for kicking back and relaxing in comfort. In the same open-plan space, there is a warm dining area which seats six and a coffee/tea station on the way to the well-equipped, well-presented kitchen with plenty of space for food preparation should you not wish to dine at the many eateries close by. On the same floor is a lovely bathroom with a generous shower. Through the bi-fold doors from the living area, there is a gorgeous patio area leading on to the property’s private, enclosed garden, surrounded by stunning views giving you a great place to sit out and relax in the summer months whilst enjoying a glass of fizz, or simply taking in the fresh morning air to the sound of sheep and chickens with your coffee.
There are three good-sized bedrooms one on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The ground floor bedroom has a generous kingsize bed. One of the bedrooms on the first floor has en-suite facilities and another king-size bed. The third bedroom is the largest with a super kingsize zip and link bed, small sitting area, TV and dressing table. The upper bedrooms have air conditioning. All bedrooms have fresh cotton linen, guaranteeing a perfect night’s sleep and guests are provided with soft, quality towels.
Heckington is two miles away with a train station for trips to the East Coast with its many beaches and nature reserves. Heckington has three pubs, an independent brewery within the eight-sailed windmill, a Co-op, greengrocers, takeaways and cafés (there is a WONDERFUL coffee shop on the high street and an award-winning chip shop). Heckington also plays host to the largest village country show in the UK. Situated just six miles away is the town of Sleaford which has plenty of independent shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs.
There is also The Hub, a national centre for art and design and a theatre, plus historical attractions. Within a 40-minute drive are Lincoln, Grantham and Newark with their castles and cathedrals. Just a half hour away is Woodhall Spa which has the headquarters of the National Golf Union, two golf courses and an academy. Locally, there are lovely walks through the surrounding countryside and cycle routes straight from your accommodation with an abundance of wildlife which surrounds the property. Lincolnshire Cycle Trail runs through the village. Cyclists around here are made of serious stuff; however, local roads are largely level and easy for novices. The fantastic Lincolnshire Wolds National Park is also easily accessible with plenty of scenic walks and cycle trails.

The Lincolnshire Wolds, which offer many miles of walks and cycle routes, are within 30 minutes’ drive and there are lots of Wolds villages tea rooms and pubs for food and refreshment on your travels. A lovely holiday home for a family break with a private hot tub to relax in and enjoy. Just 4 miles from the sandy beaches of Chapel St Leonards which is a small seaside town north of Skegness. Anderby Creek is also the same distance away and with unspoilt beaches and a good cafe to enjoy is always popular for a day out. Within 20 mins drive for great family days out are Fantasy Island, Butlins as well as the traditional seaside resorts of Mablethorpe and Skegness. With a bedroom and shower room on the ground floor Nurseries Cottage is ideal for those that are less mobile and the kitchen offers a good social area to enjoy with comfy seating as well as looking out onto the back garden and open fields to the front. Sandilands has been popular for many generations of families to visit the coast and this lovely bungalow is situated in a quiet residential area approximately 500 yards walk from the beach – you can see the dunes from the back garden. Within a short walk is the beach, shop, pub, nature reserve and Sandilands colourful beach huts. For days out you can walk or cycle along the seafront to Sutton on Sea or further on to the traditional seaside resort of Mablethorpe. A bus trip takes you along the coast to Anderby Creek, the café/observatory at Huttoft or stop at Chapel St Leonards. Fantasy Island, Butlins and Skegness are all within 30 minutes’ drive for family days out or enjoy the bus ride to them along the coast. Set in over 300 acres of woodland, these detached log cabins lie in Kenwick Woods, near the town of Louth. There are lovely walks straight from the lodges, and cycle routes that take you out towards the coast or inland across the scenic Lincolnshire Wolds. The park also boasts an 18-hole golf course, which makes its way through mature woodland, negotiating no less than 9 lakes, with a bar and restaurant about ½ mile walk. There is excellent coarse and fly fishing nearby, with 15 lakes within a 5-mile radius of Louth (permit required).
The nearby Georgian market town of Louth has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a cinema and the Meridian Leisure Centre to enjoy. The seal breeding grounds at Donna Nook are about a 20-minute drive and are always worth a day out in breeding season. The traditional seaside resorts of Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea are about a 20-minute drive to the east, with miles of quiet sandy beaches to explore. Beach 14 miles.
