Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. For those of you who enjoy bird watching there’s the RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs where you can view thousands of migrating seabirds from the cliff top viewing points. People travel from all over to watch the comical puffins. The cyclists amongst you can enjoy some of the routes from the Tour de Yorkshire, as well as the wonderful Dalby Forest, home to miles and miles of mountain bike tracks. With over 8,000 acres of woodland pathways there’s plenty of woodland walks to enjoy, as well as the Cleveland Way. Yorkshire is famous for its market towns, Pickering, Malton, Beverley and Driffield are all a short drive from Aysgarth Lodge. In the village you will find a supermarket, post office, traditional pub, bistro pub, fish and chip shop and a church 100-400 yards. There is a garden centre. 10-15 minute flat walk which has a lovely café. Supermarket and fast food outlets within a 5 minute drive, all in the same place. The Snug at Delamere House is a modern annexe looking out onto its own private enclosed garden, bursting with colours in the spring and summer when the flowers bloom. There is a patio with a seating area so that you can enjoy the sunshine during your stay. The property set all on the ground floor, with designated off road parking on the driveway. Enter through the double glass doors which open in from the garden, bathing the living room in light. The living space is open planned, with a compact kitchen, a drop-leaf dining table as well as comfortable seating. There is a master double bedroom leading off the living room, and from the kitchen there is a hallway leading to the shower room and a twin bedroom. This property is the perfect choice for couples as well as families.
You are just a short stroll away from Scagglethorpe’s warm and welcoming village pub, the true heart of the village. There is also a nearby play park for young children. There is a wide choice of places to visit nearby, with something for everyone. For history buffs Eden Camp is just 5-minutes away, a prisoner of war camp now transformed into a fascinating World War II museum. The stately home of Castle Howard is a short drive from the cottage, holding events throughout the year including the summer proms. Spend a day exploring the house and before sampling some of the cakes on offer from one of the tea rooms. The Christmas experience is also one of the very best in the country. There are other stately homes within a short distance of the property, including Duncombe Park and Nunnington Hall. Don’t forget the stunning gardens at Helmsley too.
This area is a fantastic base for both cyclists and walkers, with a large network of footpaths and country lanes. The famous market towns of Malton and Helmsley are within a few minutes’ drive and offer market days around their cobbled squares as well as a great array of shops, cafés and restaurants. Thornton-le-Dale is a picture perfect little village built around a little stream, ideal for a memorable day out. Less than 10 miles away is Pickering, nestled on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, where you can ride the heritage steam train across the beautiful moorland to the coastal town of Whitby. The ancient walled city of York with its beautiful minster and award winning-attractions is only a 30-minute drive away, while 30 minutes to the east takes you to beautiful Filey beach and its fabulous coastline. Regular buses run from the village to the centre of the ancient walled city of York, 7 miles away. Steeped in history and brimming with attractions, York appeals to all ages. Visit the magnificent minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre and the Railway Museum, browse the art galleries and stroll along the cobbled streets and city walls.
