Ryndle Corner is a beautiful, detached house overlooking Peasholm Park, one of the finest locations in Scarborough and voted one of the best parks in the UK. The park has stunning gardens and wildlife, and lots of leisurely walks can be taken here. The park is also home to the world famous Naval Warfare, a unique miniature sea battle that is re-enacted. There are plenty of rowing boats and pedaloes that you can explore the lake on or if you prefer a more leisurely ride there’s the swan launch motor boat. During the summer season there are regular concerts in the park. The park also boasts an 18-hole mini golf course so there’s plenty to do right on your doorstep.
As well as Peasholm Park you are close to the cricket ground where the famous summer festival gives you the opportunity to see county cricket at its best. Ryndle Corner is a short stroll from the North Bay’s long sandy beach, which makes it a great location for a family holiday. Just down the hill is the Open Air Theatre, the largest open air amphitheatre in Europe where, during the summer season, you can enjoy concerts from world renowned artists. The Alpamare waterpark, offering water slides and a wave machine, is only a 10-minute stroll away. The location of Ryndle Corner means there really is something for everyone right on the doorstep!
The long wide sandy beach has won awards for cleanliness making it perfect for families. For the more adventurous, surfing lessons can be booked from the surf shop just down the hill. Scarborough boasts two beaches with a long, flat promenade where you can enjoy early evening strolls. The castle stands proud on the hillside separating the two bays. The South Bay is more vibrant with the amusements and shops, and the North Bay is the quieter, more peaceful area. For those of you who like evening entertainment, the Stephen Joseph Theatre is close by. Famous for the world premieres of almost all of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays, the theatre is well worth a visit. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Scarborough is a great base to see what the east coast has to offer.
Ryndle Corner is the perfect base for walkers too, being situated only a few miles from the famous North York Moors National Park, or you can walk part of the Cleveland Way along the rugged coast. Just a short drive and you can visit Whitby, Flamborough, Bridlington and the famous RSPB cliffs at Bempton where you can see the puffins and gannets in their natural habitat. The medieval city of York is only an hour away where you can visit the famous Minster or the railway museum.
The house is very large and spacious with seven bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, and the dining room has two tables to accommodate everyone. There’s plenty of space for two or three families to share and still have privacy in this homely property. From here you can board the North Yorkshire Moors steam train and take a memorable journey through the glorious Esk Valley, arriving in the market town of Pickering. Walking enthusiasts will love the bridle paths and walkways which abound from the door. The North Yorkshire Moors is home to many quaint villages with inns and tea rooms tucked away deep in the valley awaiting discovery. The village of Ruswarp is within walking distance and makes a great day out by the river with boating opportunities, garden tea rooms, a miniature railway and a rare plants centre. Whitby hosts many festivals throughout the year with Goth weekend, folk weeks and 60’s festivals, when the town comes alive with visitors from far and wide. A 3 mile stretch of sandy beach, a colourful harbour, a marina, the famous St Mary’s Church and the 12th century abbey ruins, alleyways and ginnels lined with quaint little cottages complete the picture. A little further to the south is the more elegant seaside town of Scarborough with an eclectic mix of shopping, museums, art galleries, some fine dining restaurants and the North and South Bays boasting fine sandy beaches, fun fairs, amusement arcades and donkey rides on the beach. The minster city of York is approximately an hour’s drive and well worth a visit. Historic homes, halls and castles are plentiful in this part of North Yorkshire and are easily reached. This charming property stands adjoining the owners’ farmhouse and offers a peaceful retreat with dark skies in a quiet location, visited by deer, barn owls and buzzards. Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and the graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. The climb is worth the effort just to take in the fantastic views of the town and out to sea. Many events and festivals take place all year round such as the Goth Weekender, Folk Week, Whitby Regatta, which is hosting the red arrows for 2018, Steampunk festivals and many music events. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips.
There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and donkey rides to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down, but if you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such Robin Hood’s Bay are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay. Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer.
The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Pickering. Filey has many restaurants and hostelries providing superb cuisine. Should you wish to travel further afield you will find that Yorkshire glories in one of the finest stretches of coastline in Britain, golden beaches, rocky coves and towering cliffs. Further to the north is Whitby, a picturesque fishing port and inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Moors Railway, 18 miles of preserved railway are both close by, as is Flamingo Land. Shops 3 miles, pub 1 mile.

Eldin Hall Cottages are set in a peaceful area and have been added more recently to the restored old Victorian waterworks. The four cottages have their own enclosed decked patios with garden furniture, and The Gatehouse has its own enclosed private lawned garden. There is also a shared garden with a fantastic play area for the children. The owners, who just 10 minutes away, will be there to greet guests whenever possible, and are available any time to provide information and assistance when it is required.
Situated between Cayton and Cayton Bay, the cottages are an ideal base to visit the east coast, North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds. The beach at Cayton Bay is less than a mile away (2 miles by road) and just a little further up the coast is the popular seaside town of Scarborough. The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are just a short drive away. The walks along the clifftops are spectacular and form part of the Cleveland Way walk. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs attracts visitors from worldwide and is just a short drive from the cottages. Here you can see puffins, kittiwakes and lots of other migrating seabirds. Not to be missed during your stay (as it’s always voted as one of the top ten cities to visit) is the wonderful city of York which is less than an hour away by car, or the train is direct from Scarborough. Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.
