Masham, renowned for the Black Sheep Brewery, is 10 minutes’ drive and Richmond with its Norman castle, Georgian architecture and thriving theatre is also easily accessible. Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. Nestling within the Hambleton area of North Yorkshire, Mill Cottage is a delightful cottage situated within the grounds of the owner’s beef, livery and arable farm with large mature gardens to the side. There is a patio area to the front which overlooks a paddock where ponies graze, so why not poor a glass of fizz and enjoy the summer sun? Tastefully furnished and decorated, the cottage enjoys a spacious master bedroom on the first floor with a seating area, dressing room and en-suite bathroom. A twin room and shower room are on the ground floor, ensuring flexibility for those who would not wish to negotiate the stairs. With Mill Cottage set close to Northallerton the local pubs, restaurants and shops are within easy reach of the property. You can explore the stunning North York Moors National Park, which is full of bike trails and fantastic, scenic walks so make sure you pack your walking boots. Visit the very popular Rievaulx Abbey or the nearby towns and cities including fabulous Helmsley, Thirsk, Richmond and a little further afield York, Harrogate and Leeds which can be accessed by the train station in Northallerton or around a one-hour drive. Alternatively, if you wanted to leave the car and have a day exploring there are plenty of picturesque walks right on Mill Cottages’ doorstep along with a superb village pub offering a variety of local ales and good old pub grub. The Swaledale Hut is a two-bedroom luxury shepherds hut accommodating up to four guests. Benefitting from an open plan design, designated double bed bedroom area, bunk bed and separate bathroom.
This holiday home is the perfect countryside escape which is ideally situated in a small village within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Set on a working sheep and beef farm along the Ribbleway footpath we breath taking views of the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Three Peaks.these huts are beautifully spaced out and positioned so none are overlooked. Tiggywinkle Cottage sits in the heart of the picturesque village of Hawnby. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park, this 200-year-old, detached, traditional Yorkshire cottage, which was fully refurbished and extended in 2020, is simply delightful. Tiggywinkle Cottage was named by a walker during the 1950s who took time to sit and draw the property. The villagers fell in love with the name and so it remains, along with the original pencil sketch which now hangs within the cottage.
On arrival visitors are welcomed into the open plan living area. This room oozes character with its low ceilings and stone floors, tall visitors will need to take care! There is a country kitchen and large comfortable sofas around the wood burner in the open plan living area. Ideal to snuggle up and enjoy an evening’s entertainment on the 32’’ Smart TV or simply sit and enjoy a good book and glass of wine after a long day walking or cycling in the National Park. You will find everything you need to cook your favourite holiday recipes whilst the dining area provides comfortable seating for four. A ground floor bedroom offers a zip and link option and an en-suite bathroom, both bedrooms have pocket spring mattresses and feather down duvets. The vaulted ceiling with Velux window gives this room a lovely feel and a door leads to the patio where you could enjoy an evening tipple or an early morning coffee, watching the sun come up over the National Park.
To the first floor is a second bedroom with lovely views and a zip and link super king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom. Both bedrooms are beautifully decorated and furnished to a very good standard. Tiggywinkle Cottage is only 8 miles from Helmsley, one of Yorkshire’s finest market towns. This wonderful village is where the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills meet, offering some of the finest views and countryside. Helmsley is also a walker’s paradise where the Ebor Way meets the Cleveland Way, and also the Inn Way. With a reputation for great Yorkshire hospitality, the market square is a meeting point for walkers, cyclists and locals alike. There are also many shops, cafés, eateries including Michelin starred restaurants, an open-air swimming pool, walled garden, castle, bird of prey centre, microbrewery, two abbey ruins and the stately home of Duncombe Park. On the doorstep is York Golf Club and Strensall Common, a huge conservation area maintained by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and which is popular with birdwatchers.
Regular buses run from the village to the centre of the ancient walled city of York, 7 miles away. Steeped in history and brimming with attractions, York appeals to all ages.
