Nestling in the hamlet of Speeton just a few miles from the seaside town of Filey, yet bordering open countryside, this stunning chapel conversion retains many original features such as beautiful stained glass windows, high solid wood ceilings, wall panelling and solid wood floors. Hunters Lodge still retains its sense of history, after being converted from an old barn with exposed beams throughout, giving you that home from home feeling as soon as you step in.
On the ground floor you have a delightful and comfortable living area which offers fantastic views of the spectacular countryside, a wood burner for those colder evenings, adding additional heat and charm, a great area to kick back and relax in with a glass of red after a long day exploring this wonderful area. The large country style kitchen which is well presented and well-equipped gives you plenty of room for food preparation and dining space, should you wish to have a home cooked meal. In addition, this is a great area for socialising in or playing a board game with the family. Adjacent from the living room down the hallway are two good sized bedrooms, both with fresh linen, guaranteeing a perfect night’s sleep ready for the next day’s adventure. In between both bedrooms is the large family bathroom, with a shower over bath should you wish to have a long soak.
To the rear of the property, you have a perfect garden which offers a seating area, giving you a great place to sit out and relax in the summer months, whilst enjoying a glass of fizz or taking in the fresh country air with your morning coffee.
With the cottage situated outside of Northallerton, the local pubs, restaurants and shops are within easy reach as well as the world-famous Betty’s tea room where afternoon tea is a must. You can explore the stunning North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, both packed full of bike trails and fantastic, scenic walks. Nearby towns which are well worth a visit include Helmsley, Thirsk, Richmond and a little further afield York and Leeds which can be accessed by the train station in Northallerton. The semi-detached cottage has had a newly fitted kitchen in 2022 and sits within the grounds of the owner’s home just a short walk from one of the smallest pubs in the UK, known for its traditional ales and warm friendly welcome. Beck Hole is located deep in the valley with the holiday cottage overlooking the village just a short stroll from the local pub. Stunning valleys and sweeping hillside views can be enjoyed from the idyllic location of the cottage. You could almost be anywhere in the world, close your eyes and listen to the silence interrupted only by bird song. Cycle tracks, bridle paths and walkways abound from the doorstep with quaint little villages popping up when you least expect it.
It is just 1 mile from the well-known village of Goathland best known for its connections with Heartbeat, indeed Hill Farm in which The Dairy sits was used for many of the film shoots. The village green is lined with quaint curio shops, inns and tea rooms serving some of Yorkshire’s finest cuisine. You can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train here and take a memorable journey through the glorious Esk Valley as it steams its way across the valleys into the historic market town of Pickering. The ancient sea port of Whitby is just a short drive over the moors, eight miles, a colourful harbour leads to the three mile stretch of sandy beach overlooked and almost protected by the ancient abbey ruins and St Mary’s church. The brave (and fit) can take the 199 steps up to the abbey ruins where panoramic views over Whitby across to Sandsend can be enjoyed. Explore the smugglers coves of Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes or visit the more elegant seaside resort of Scarborough, Britain’s first ever seaside resort. This former cart store has been converted into a quaint Dale’s stone cottage set just off the village green in Bellerby. With its streams and mill race running through Bellerby it’s a picturesque setting at the edge of Wensleydale. Entering the front door into the living/dining room with exposed stonework, flagstone flooring, beams and a large inglenook fireplace, the cottage offers an abundance of character and charm. The two settees set around the open fire offer a cosy feel while watching the Smart TV in Holly Cottage.
A dining table and chairs are positioned to the rear of the room. Going through to the kitchen, all the appliances, crockery, and utensils you need are available to rustle up some cosy meals while staying at Holly Cottage. The characterful staircase from the living room has uneven, deep treads with a rope banister to guide you up towards the two bedrooms. Both rooms offer comfortable beds, one being a double, the other offering bunk beds suitable for children with attractive quality linen and hand and bath towels available for each Guest. The compact shower room has a shower cubicle with a deep step in/out, toilet, sink and heated towel rail.
To the rear of the property there is an enclosed picket fenced garden which includes a lawn area and flower beds, along with a stone patio h a table, chairs, and a bench to enjoy sitting at while taking in a morning coffee or firing up the barbecue for an alfresco supper. The South facing front garden is not secured for dogs but guests can happily sit there on the bench and watch the world go by. The shared front driveway which offers parking for 1 car. The attached property, Cherry Tree Cottage, has allocated parking for 2 cars on the same driveway. Both properties can be used by larger Groups if required. Please ask about this option.
Bellerby is a village situated on the edge of The Yorkshire Dales National Park with a local pub serving a selection of real ales but unfortunately no food and although there is no shop or amenities as such in the village the lovely market town of Leyburn is just over a mile away where an array of individual shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants are available. If you are looking to get out and stretch your legs, whether walking or cycling, there are abundant established public footpaths, bridleways, and cycle routes available in the local vicinity with spectacular scenery, open countryside, and pretty Yorkshire villages to explore.
Within easy driving distance there is an array of places to visit whether it’s the historic Castle Bolton, Richmond Castle, Jervaulx Abbey or the stunning Aysgarth Falls, there is something to suit everyone’s taste. The children and adults alike will love Forbidden Corner with its quirky folly garden to explore or for the more adventurous why not visit the theme park, Lightwater Valley.
