The Cumbrian border is close by; Carlisle is only 25 miles west, therefore making it a superb base for those seeking to explore the historic charms of Northumberland coupled with the magnificent Lakeland Fells.

Situated a stone’s throw from the Amble harbour; known locally as ’the friendliest port’, this delightful abode provides deceptively spacious holiday accommodation which has been designed and finished to a high standard. This holiday retreat is tastefully furnished throughout and oozes charm with beautiful, homely touches. Put your feet up in the cosy living room and settle with a tipple in front of the wood burner whilst watching a good film on the Smart TV. The contemporary kitchen/ diner to the rear is particularly well appointed and a great social hub; and to the chefs delight all the necessary appliances on hand to rustle up some hearty dishes for the family to enjoy. Its bright and airy ambience is enhanced by a door which leads to a small yard, somewhere to sit and have your morning coffee. Retire upstairs to one of the three bedrooms. The master is a super king room, the second bedroom has a zip and link bed which can be used as two twins, or a king size tailored to your needs, and the third bedroom is a small double. Freshen up in the bathroom and take your pick from a relaxing bath or an invigorating shower. Parking for Little Anchor Cottage is on road straight outside of the property so very convenient!

The quayside in Amble has a Sunday weekly market and is home to the Harbour Village where small independent shopping pods sell a range of arts, crafts, accessories, food, and drink. Head to the RPSB reserve of Coquet Island to discover puffins, terns and eider ducks, and take a boat ride around the island to see it from a unique perspective, while wildlife lovers will also relish the chance to explore the Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre and birdwatching opportunities are prominent at Druridge Bay. 6 miles North brings you to the quaint town of Alnmouth, a popular coastal village known for its excellent 18-hole golf course and its charming cycle routes. Set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, the Scottish borderland and the Lake District National Park, which is just an hour away. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. On entering the property, you are greeted by a contemporary designed living room with a modern wall mounted fire and plush sofas. Heading towards the back of the property brings you to a lovely kitchen/dining room where the designated chef will have all the appliances needed to cook a hearty meal for the whole family to enjoy while sitting around the sociable dining table. Head outside and finish off you’re evening with a bottle of wine and take advantage of the fabulous garden equipped with garden furniture and a firepit for those chillier evenings. The large garden is also a great area for your furry friends to have some fun and let off some steam!

Boat trips run from the nearby harbour to the Farne Islands, famous for their nesting seabirds and grey seal colonies. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, dominated by its majestic castle, is only 2 miles north, where there is a wide expanse of golden, and often empty sandy beaches. The tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island, can be seen from the beach and is accessible via a causeway twice daily. West House is only 15 miles from Berwick on Tweed, with a beautiful beach and plenty of shops and history. Northumberland is such a diverse and friendly county with the beautiful Heritage Coast only 15 miles to Bamburgh, with a cliff top castle from where you can follow the trail and take in the history, a lovely day trip. Holy Island Causeway is only 14 miles where the Lindisfarne Gospels were kept (check the tides). The location really is ideal for exploring in all directions of Northumberland and Scotland’s Border counties.

Wooler itself has that country feeling while still having a market town buzz, combining home comforts with countryside. You can be hiking the Cheviot Hills in the morning and having a local beer in one of the nearby pubs on an evening. St Cuthbert’s Way walk passes via Wooler, a 62-mile route following the ancient pilgrimage route, followed by St Cuthbert and many other monks between Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in north Northumberland. Alnwick Castle (used as the location of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts) has outstanding gardens created by the Duchess of Northumberland, which includes a lovely woodland walk, a grand cascade waterfall and a restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe. There are train links from Morpeth, with trains taking 50 minutes to Edinburgh and just 20 minutes to Newcastle.

Park up right outside the property in your private space to the rear, or head to the front of the property where there is multiple on street parking.
Before entering the property soak up the tranquil countryside views that surround you. The sitting room is furnished with two plush sofas, a Smart TV with Freeview, and an multi-fuel wood burner with a fabulous original surround. The décor is well thought out and homely throughout. Stepping through the property, locate the large open kitchen/diner, well-equipped with essential appliances, including an electric oven and gas hob, a microwave, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, and a dining area with seating for six. From here, to the rear of the property you will find the downstairs WC and utility area which houses a tumble dryer and washing machine. Step into the rear garden and relax with a glass of wine, treat yourself to some alfresco dining whilst taking in them splendid views! For those seeking the best of both worlds, Ryton most certainly holds the key. It is picturesque and close to the city, so location is perfect. There is plenty to see and do in the area including golfing, fishing, and cycling. Some of the best golf courses are on the doorstep of Emmaville, including Close House Golf Club, Tyneside Golf Course, and Ryton Golf Club, keen golfers really are spoilt for choice here! If golfing isn’t your thing head to Stargate Ponds and Bewes Hills for some fishing, a fantastic spot enjoyed by many. For those that love being out surrounded by nature, wildlife, and unspoilt natural beauty head to Ryton Willows nature reserve, which is great for riverside walks with its woodland, grassland and ponds. It proves a real beautiful spot to sit and relax with a picnic.
The Tyne is still tidal at Ryton. As a consequence of this, the water is slightly salty, and this influences the flowers growing on the bankside. Look out in summer for the purple-blue heads of sea aster. Common seals are frequently seen up the river, attracted by the wide range of fish, including salmon. Birds to see along the river include grey heron, kingfisher and goosander. Ryton Willows also sits on the site of the only Registered Battlefield in Tyne and Wear. The Battle of Newburn Ford, which took place on 28th August 1640, was an important event leading up to the start of the English Civil War.
After a fun filled day why not enjoy a pint of ale at one of the local pubs, which also serves great food. Throughout the year there are a number of events, one big event is Ryton’s Annual Music Festival which takes place in February and March each year, It has been held in the village for more than 60 years, and offers a variety of music and drama, including choral singing and mime.
