The Tumbling Sailor’s name derives from an old pub which was previously on the site called The Tumbling Sailors Inn. It was demolished in the early 1900s. This marvellous Shropshire cottage offers groups of up to six a wonderful stay located on the bank of the River Severn, and in the heart of Jackfield, you’re only one mile from the Ironbridge Gorge.
The cottage has a stylish interior, with modern features, and little touches of rural charm. You’ll love the comfy furnishings, oak beams, and exposed brick. A great spot to socialise with your loved ones is in the open plan living/dining room with comfy sofas, views across the garden and complete with a wood burner. You can stay toasty and enjoy a glass of wine long into the evening. This room also has a large wooden dining table with plenty of space for your entire group, and if that’s not enough there’s a conservatory with more seating to relax in and enjoy a book or cup of tea first thing. The property’s modern kitchen has all you need to cook up lovely meals, including a large Range oven.
The three bedrooms all sit on the first floor. The master boasts a kingsize bed, whilst the second bedroom has a double bed, and the third two singles for all your sleeping arrangements covered. There’s plenty of space and all have been decorated in calming tones but still showcasing that homely cottage feel. A large family bathroom with a luxurious corner bathtub and shower completes the first floor. Outside the River Severn sits at the bottom of the garden, offering you beautiful views and sounds from the river, and ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding. There are steps leading down, along the way you’ll find lovely seating areas, and impressive gardens great on those sunny days. The garden is enclosed so that your furry friends can roam freely and there’s lots of space for everyone to enjoy a meal outside.
You’re located near to the wonderful village of Ironbridge, it’s just a quick, 15-minute walk from the cottage where you’ll find quaint cafes, great pubs and restaurants and independent shops to explore. The Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage site is a now a maze of footpaths, bridleways, and country lanes. Whilst the village is famous for being home of the world’s first iron-built bridge, built between 1777-79 a collection of ten industrial and Victorian themed museums makes up the Ironbridge Museums Trust, including the exciting Blists Hill Victorian Village. Within driving distance are the popular historical towns of Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Ludlow, as well as the Wroxeter Roman City, the Severn valley Railway, the RAF Cosford Museum, and many National Trust properties. Friary Cottage is a Grade II Listed, detached and renovated town cottage. Well-positioned and beautifully presented with some antique furniture, it boasts original, quirky features and is only a 5-minute walk from the centre of the town and a 3-minute walk from Ludlow’s train station. A cosy wood burner and gas fired Aga are amongst the treasures of the house. From the sun room/conservatory there is a new garden room to enjoy. Guests can also enjoy a private enclosed rear garden, a separate, small walled courtyard, and it is located on one of the most prominent streets of this charming medieval town. Ludlow is overshadowed by its own majestic castle, as it was once, like York, a seat of Government in Tudor and Stuart England. Now hosting the famous food festivals and events throughout the year, there is always a lively atmosphere here. It has a reputation for fine foods, award-winning restaurants, speciality and antique shops and even a racecourse. An excellent base to explore the unrivalled countryside for picnicking and walking or nearby towns such as Bridgnorth and Bewdley (Severn Valley Railway), Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Tenbury Wells and Leominster. The cathedral city of Hereford with its chained library and Mappa Mundi are all within a short drive, as are historic houses such as Witley Court, Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, Stokesay Castle and Powis Castle on the Welsh borders. Acton Scott, an historic working farm and the Secret Hills Discovery Centre are all just a few of the nearby attractions, so you will never be short of something to see. Shropshire has many quaint towns and villages to visit including Much Wenlock, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Shrewsbury, all are accessible within a 30-minute drive. Activity centres are dotted around the county offering anything from clay shooting, high ropes and canoeing to mountain biking and Segway and quad trekking. Nearby is also the historical National Trust Attingham Park, Wenlock Edge and Cardingmill Valley, as well as Stokesay and Ludlow castles. The Secret Hills Discovery Centre and Acton Scott Working Farm are great for children, and the glider centre on the Long Mynd and horse racing at Ludlow are also available nearby. This pretty, detached stone cottage sits in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty only 5 miles from the foot of the Long Mynd on the Shropshire border, close to the Welsh Marches. The Onny Trail is on the doorstep leading to walks on Wart Hill, Hopesay Hill on the Shropshire Way, and the Jack Mytton Way which goes up over the long Mynd. It has an enviable position close to the road networks, yet has fields and woodland to the rear. The field across the road belongs to the owners and has the River Onny running along the bottom where you can relax and try your hand at some wild fishing. The cottage has its own private patio area with sole use of a six-seater hot tub.
Shropshire is a great area to visit with plenty of activities and places to visit within a short distance. Some of the attractions include Acton Scott Working Farm, Secret Hills Discovery Centre, Stokesay Castle, and the vibrant market town of Ludlow with its castle, racecourse, weekly markets, and numerous food fairs held throughout the year. The Glider Centre on the Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley (National Trust) is a must for adrenaline lovers. The beautiful market town of Ludlow, well known for its food festival and Historic Shrewsbury is set on the banks of the River Severn and offers a great selection of shops, bars, and restaurants. While in nearby Condover there is an activity centre where family activities include low ropes, high ropes, kayaking, and laser tag. The Edge Adventure Activity Centre at Much Wenlock offers quad bike trekking, clay shooting, mountain boarding, and much more.
For a more relaxed approach to your holiday there are some lovely towns and areas to visit such as Bridgnorth with the Severn Valley Railway, inland funicular railway, and the historic Ironbridge gorge and museums. From the property within an hour’s drive, there are Powys Castle, Berrington Hall, and Attingham Park all National Trust properties and just a little further you will find Chirk Castle, Erddig, and Croft Castle. Lovely, characterful detached farmhouse in the heart of Mid-Wales with rolling views of the countryside, situated on a 320-acre working farm. This is the ideal property to enjoy a relaxed stay, listen to the wildlife and watch the stars in the clear skies. This is a great place for those wanting to visit the coastal nature reserve of Ynyslas Sands or the dolphins of Cardigan Bay, both of which are within a day trip. It is less than 10 miles to the attractive Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells and 13 miles to the market town of Rhayader. Both have an interesting array of small shops, cafés and restaurants. The stunning Elan Valley is located just a couple miles further on, where here you will find the famous red kite feeding station, Welsh Crystal Factory, cycle hire, and a myriad of other outdoor pursuits. Explore the area, whether it be on foot or bicycle. Radnor Forest is nearby and offers spectacular views and routes that can be walked or cycled. Or simply enjoy the multitude of hikes and walks right on your doorstep. The nearby village of Bleddfa offers a country pub within 5 miles.

A good selection of pubs and restaurants are within a 2 mile radius, ideal for a relaxing evening out. Shrewsbury offers a large selection of points of interest and landmarks to visit including Shrewsbury Abbey and Attingham Park. You are also just a 40-minute drive from the Roman town of Chester.

Betchcott is a hamlet near the village of Picklescott in Shropshire. It lies in the parish of Smethcott, in the northern foothills of the Long Mynd. The nearest town is Church Stretton. If it is time for a break away together, Keepers Cottage has you covered with all sorts of family friendly comforts. Even your dogs will find the large, enclosed garden a treat. Plus, if you would like to bring your horse along, yes you read that correctly, the owners can provide stables for up to six horses, along with a menage and three paddocks. There’s livestock on the farm and a beautiful private lake for everyone to enjoy, the owners are very close by and welcome you to enjoy all the facilities.
Inside, you have a well-equipped kitchen and dining area beneath wooden beams, complete with a Rayburn oven, fridge, dishwasher, and microwave. There is a roomy utility room, with more cooking facilities, a sink, and washing machine. Plus, a ground floor larder, with supplies and there is a ground floor toilet. Just off the kitchen is a lovely room for reading or playing board games, its light and airy and a great place to relax after a day out exploring.
The living room is open plan with the kitchen and dining area and very welcoming, offering a Smart TV and wood burner. The house was rebuilt in 2010 to a very high standard and features green oak beams and a warm, homely feel. Upstairs offers three bedrooms, sleeping up to six. The family bathroom is centred between them all, although the double does have an en-suite shower and toilet, so there won’t be any queues for the shower.
Outside Keepers Cottage is an expansive garden which loops around the property, including a decked area with outdoor furniture, a patio, and a large lawn for everyone to enjoy. The nearby pub is quintessentially English and is full of rustic charm and character, with oak beams, open fires, and a wonderfully warm atmosphere, only a short walk away.
Church Stretton is the main shopping area and has well known various independent shops from kitchen supplies to clothing. It also provides all the essentials with a supermarket and post office. The owners have plenty of recommendations for excellent places to eat around the wider area. You are within easy reach of the Shropshire Hills and The Long Mynd, which is excellent to explore by foot or bike and for anyone who enjoys nature.
Picklescott is ideally placed for access to Ride UK routes and the many miles of bridleways which criss-cross the Long Mynd for those bringing your horses. Further afield there is Ludlow, a thriving medieval market town and an architectural gem with a lively community feel, busy with events and festivals throughout the year. Perhaps the area’s charm is most evident in where you are staying, make use of the private lake for fishing or take a walk to soak in the breathtaking scenery. There is a lot to appreciate, and Keepers Cottage is sure to be a highlight of your next stay.

Situated on the owner’s farm in the pretty hamlet of Betton Strange, only two miles from the town centre of Shrewsbury. The barns at Bretton Alkmere Farm are perfect for a family get together or a friend’s holiday with plenty of luxurious extras. The Brewhouse (UK44073) sleeps two, The Granary (UK44074) sleeps six, The Dairy (UK44130) sleeps eight and The Stables (UK44139) sleeps 10 and all have been decorated to a high modern standard whilst cleverly preserving the characteristics of the original barns.
The owners have worked with an interior designer to give the barns the extra ’wow’ factor when it comes to décor. They come with en-suite facilities and all of them have large open plan living, dining and kitchen areas with plenty of comfy seating for all and large dining tables. The kitchens are spacious, modern, and fully equipped for any chefs in the party, but if you don’t feel like cooking, there’s plenty of fantastic restaurants nearby that the owners will gladly share their recommendations. All the barns have wood flooring throughout and charming exposed beams, and there has been a great deal of attention to detail so that you can relax in style and comfort. There are Smart TVs with Netflix if you fancy a movie night. Each of the barns come with enclosed gardens and patios, with breathtaking views of the surrounding Shropshire countryside and plenty of parking for everyone. In addition to the fabulous accommodation, the owners offer you a luxury hamper and if there’s availability the children can be shown around the farm. The family have a fantastic farm shop not too far away, so that you can indulge in delicious local produce during your stay.
You are located only a 10-minute drive from the beautiful and very popular town of Shrewsbury, which is a great place to explore. Bursting with independent shops, coffee bars and restaurants and set on the banks of the River Severn, there’s plenty to see and do. Farmers markets are laid on throughout the year, and events happening all the time, it’s a must visit. In the nearby Shropshire Hills, hikers and cyclists can explore the varied landscape, stopping in at numerous quaint villages along the way to explore meadows, hills, and woodland. Or visit one of many of the National Trust properties close by. There’ something for everyone, the special places in Shropshire are just waiting to be discovered. Set in the countryside of Leintwardine, this modern barn conversion is the perfect place to relax in and enjoy a rural retreat. The off grid, eco-conversion is thoughtfully simple and modern, to complement the beauty of its surroundings. There is an open plan living and kitchen area with sliding doors making the most of the views, at one end the modern fitted kitchen there’s an island and dining area, which makes a great social space, and perfect for entertaining or enjoying a family meal. The kitchen comes well-equipped with the usual appliances as well as an air fryer and a L’Or coffee machine. At the other end of the room, you’ll find a comfortable living area with a smart TV as well as further entertainment in the way of books and games, and sliding doors lead out to the garden. There is also a wood burner which is laid ready to light on your arrival. The accommodation is all on one level with underfloor heating throughout. There are three super king beds with one being a zip and link bed, two of which have en-suite shower rooms, and there is also a separate family bathroom.
Jacob’s Plock is nestled in a quiet spot, just outside of the village and enjoys a peaceful and private plot in the countryside, whilst benefitting from the village amenities, a short drive or walk away. Leintwardine is a small rural village in North Herefordshire, close to Shropshire and the border of Wales, surrounded by rolling hills and countryside. There are two pubs, one of which has an excellent restaurant beside the river, and one that was a parlour pub beautifully restored which serves pub snacks and a good selection of ales. There is also an award-winning fish and chip shop in the village. Just ten miles away, the market town of Ludlow is a popular place to visit and hosts annual festivals and various events year-round. From ancient castles to medieval market towns and museums, the area is steeped in history with plenty of places to visit.
