    On the doorstep you can visit the famous Haynes Motor Museum with its superb collection of classic cars; Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum with its exciting aircraft carrier deck experience and huge collection of naval planes, and many historic houses such as Montacute House. Slightly further afield are stunning Stourhead House and Gardens. Within easy driving are Glastonbury Tor, the designer outlet of Clarks Village, Wells cathedral city and the West Somerset Steam Railway, all of which offer great days out. Other family days out include Longleat House and Safari Park, Cheddar Gorge, Wokey Hole or exploring the world famous Jurassic Coast. There is also great country walking in the 10 acres of the owner’s smallholding, local pubs to wine and dine in, and golf courses nearby. Beach 25 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1¾ miles.

    Welcome to Holgates, refurbished in 2024 and beautifully presented, ensuring the perfect holiday in the Somerset countryside, just a mile from the Devon border. With a recently installed air source heat pump, solar panels on the property, ecological cleaning products and recycling of household waste, we take pride in our efforts to have as little impact upon the environment as possible, and we plan to continue improving.
    Holgates is set on one level, accessed via the conservatory into the well-equipped kitchen/dining room, with wonderful views across the garden and fields beyond. In the living room is plenty of seating, an electric fire for cosy evenings and French doors opening onto the garden and views of the rolling hills. The inner hallway has a games table and leads to the two bedrooms and main bathroom. The master bedroom has a super kingsize bed, a TV and hairdryer. There is room for us to make up a cot. The second bedroom can be made up into a kingsize bed or two singles.
    The enclosed garden has a terrace with table and chairs, as well as a coal barbeque, and you will find a selection of garden games in the conservatory. The hot tub offers the perfect spot for relaxing.
    Situated on the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within easy reach of the Quantock Hills and Honiton. For family entertainment, head to the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum, The West Somerset Steam Railway, or for the younger ones, visit Crealy Adventure Park near Exeter. The Blackdown Hills themselves offer some superb country walking, wildlife, flying for the adventurous at Dunkeswell Airdrome or simply enjoy the local village pubs. Within a 40-minute drive, visit the Jurassic Coast and the seaside town of Lyme Regis, and slightly further afield Weston Super Mare, or even Bath with its many restaurants, shops and museums. South Coast Devon beaches are just 18 miles away and the Somerset northern beach 26 miles.
    By arrangement with the owner and at cost, stables and fields can be used for your horse, with hacking and bridlepaths close by.

There is a utility room and an adjacent outside hot doggy shower, equipped with a washing machine, tumble dryer, throws (for use on sofas and chairs), towels, poo bags, treats and toys. The living room has comfy seating for you and your dogs, an electric fire and a 50" Smart TV. The kitchen is well-equipped, and there is a freezer that can be used for raw food.
    Outside, the humans can relax in the private hot tub, even in the winter months, or in the large double-ended bath. For the younger guests, there is a cot, highchair and stairgate available. There is a den room with toys and books, and a shared park close by with swings and slides. Wagtails provides everything you would need for your dogs and the family. The garden is well-fenced and has a large patio area with seating, a coal barbecue and a food serving area. The garden is private with views over the open countryside. The hot tub area also has seating and plastic glasses are supplied so you can sip sundowners whilst in the hot tub on summer evenings.
    Adjoining a 200-acre nature reserve, offering beautiful country walks from the doorstep and further afield on the Blackdowns, Quantocks and Exmoor. A walking guide and a list of dog-friendly pubs can be found in the cottage. A dog-friendly café is a 5-minute walk up the track, serving freshly baked cakes, cream teas and tasty light lunches. The dog-friendly village pub is a 10-minute walk and offers real ales, open fires and good food.
    Nearby places to discover include The Blackdown Hills with the recently restored monument, the town of Wellington with lots of independent cafés and shops, as well as Exmoor National Park. Minehead and North Devon, with sandy beaches, are within easy reach. Taunton is within 10 miles, and the city of Exeter is approximately 22 miles, brimming with history and heritage, and it offers many visitor attractions to keep you entertained for hours on end. You will also find plenty of National Trust properties nearby such as Lytes Cary Manor and Montacute House, both within a 20-minute drive.
