    Lavenham is regarded as one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval villages in the UK, also one of the wealthiest areas in the country during the 12th to 16th century where the gentry stamped their mark. It boasts a wealth of listed timber framed buildings, now protected by English Heritage, and is just 2 hours by car or train from London. This very unique village was created some 750 years ago by Henry III when he granted Lavenham ’market’ status, and today, regular farmers markets are held. Bury St Edmunds is 11 miles away and Colchester is 18 miles, which boasts many shops, bars and restaurants. Ipswich, with its harbour and marina, is 19 miles and offers a great day out with walking access into the town with its shops. For a more coastal scene, take a drive to the Suffolk coastline with its beautiful beaches and RSPB reserves. Visit the amazing beaches at the traditional seaside resorts of Aldeburgh, 41 miles, and Southwold, 51 miles. As the name implies, the village has a very long high street filled with medieval buildings, and a plethora of antique shops, tea rooms, restaurants, and boutiques. It also has some fabulous art galleries which specialise in contemporary fine art, furniture, and glass. Well worth a visit is Melford Hall, owned by the National Trust, once visited by Queen Elizabeth I, and holds connections to the children’s author Beatrix Potter. The beautiful, medieval Holy Trinity Church stands at the top of the great green, built in the 15th century at a time of growing prosperity among the local cloth and wool merchants. Another gem is Kentwell Hall with its long avenue leading up to this magnificent building.
    Places to visit include the market towns of Bury St Edmunds, a 25-minute drive, Hadleigh, a 22-minute drive, Lavenham, a 12-minute drive, and Sudbury, a 6-minute drive, which also has rail links to London and Newmarket. The famous university city of Cambridge is an hour’s drive away. For fun at the coast and an excellent sandy beach you have Brightlingsea, Mersea and slightly further afield is the Suffolk Heritage Coast, where you will find the seaside gems of Southwold and Aldeburgh. A flock of curious, funny, welcoming and happy hens and a cockerel live on the property and lay THE BEST eggs for your breakfast, which you are welcome to collect and eat.     There are so many attractions nearby such as the UFO walk in the well-known Rendlesham forest, the famous “Sutton Hoo” viking burial site (Netflix made a popular series about it) 5 minutes down the road. We are only 13 minutes away from the nearest beach, shingle street, and 18 minutes from Aldeburgh, a popular tourist destination. In addition to a plethora of top-quality restaurants, pubs, and Michelin star eateries, Woodbridge was voted the best place to live in the east in 2021. You can kayak, paddle board and wild swim in the rivers and seas. Woodbridge and Ufford park have lovely golf courses if you fancy a round. Shop 1/2-mile, Pub 200 Yards. Beach 10 miles.

    The vibrant market towns of Bungay and Beccles boast independent boutiques and chain shops and the weekly market is excellent for all things local. At Beccles there is an open air heated outdoor swimming pool, popular with many local swimmers and gateway to the famous Norfolk Broads National Park.
