There are many lovely country and village walks right from the doorstep so you can spend time enjoying the countryside or exploring many of the nearby attractions.
    The village of Oxhill lies in the rolling countryside of south Warwickshire, close to the border of Oxfordshire and the north Cotswolds in the area known as the Vale of the Red Horse. It’s in a great location to see many different areas and attractions as it lies halfway between Stratford-upon-Avon and Banbury.
    The beautiful towns and villages of the north Cotswolds can be reached in approximately 10 minutes’ drive where you can explore Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold or Woodstock, home to Blenheim Palace. The National Trust’s Upton House and Gardens, Charlecote Park, Farnborough and Hidcote are all within easy reach. Compton Verney is just over 5 miles away, where you can discover the art gallery with its many collections and exhibitions, and enjoy the park with its labyrinth, bird hide, pond dipping and playground.
    For more outdoor fun, head to Burton Dassett Hills, the perfect country park for walks, flying a kite or eating a picnic whilst admiring the views of rolling hills and open countryside. Within 20-30 minutes’ drive are the market towns of Banbury and Royal Leamington Spa, which are full of high street and independent shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants. Also, a similar distance is Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick with its famous castle, and a little further Bicester Village, famous for its shopping village.

A little further is the Royal town of Leamington Spa where you can visit Victoria Gardens, Warwick with is famous castle and Shakespeare’s Stratford Upon Avon.

    In addition to the many historic Cotswold villages and towns, the surrounding countryside is excellent terrain for walking; a climb to the summit of the Worcestershire Beacons affords marvellous views of lush green Hereford and the flat expanses of the Severn Valley. Ashby Cottage was separated from Ashby House in the early 1970’s to form a separate residence. The cottage boasts traditional features such as an original baker’s oven and attractive mullion windows.

    Long Compton is situated in the beautiful Cotswolds in south Warwickshire close to the borders of both Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village is located approximately half way between Oxford and Stratford upon Avon and is within easy reach of both. The church dates back to the 13th century, and the lychgate to the 17th century. Visit the award-winning pub, which was built as a coaching inn in 1748 and is situated only 300 yards from the cottage. For golfers, there are two excellent courses close by, and for horse riders, guests will find an excellent riding school. Bikes are available to hire from Morton-in-Marsh.

    Only one mile away stands the ancient Rollright Stones, just waiting for you to explore, dating from around 2000BC. Long Compton is a walker’s paradise with the MacMillan Way passing by the village. Ashby Cottage is an ideal base to explore the beautiful Cotswolds villages and towns of Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Norton, Chipping Campden, Hook Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh, Broadway, Snowshill, Bourton on the water, Burford and Woodstock to name a few.

    A little further away stands Blenheim Palace and Oxford to the south, and a 30-minutes’ drive north will take you to the famous, historical town of Stratford-upon-Avon, fondly known as Shakespeare country. There is a number of wonderful National Trust properties within an hour’s drive, including Baddesley Clinton, Charlcote Park and Snowshill Manor. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
