Flowers Barn is a beautifully converted detached Cotswold stone barn, still boasting many original features throughout. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Duntisbourne Rouse and Duntisbourne Leer. The name is taken from the River Dunt which flows through the village, and also from monks at the Abbey of Gloucester who controlled the area in the 13th century. Flowers Barn is adjacent to the owners’ working farm and occupies a beautiful countryside setting.
Built mainly in the time of Charles II, Flowers Barn was once home to aspiring writer and farm owner Eliza in the early 18th century. Eliza came to inherit 420-acres of land off her father, rather than one of her four brothers, and dedicated her life to the farm. She was a very bright and keen horsewoman, who was the first in the area to own a bicycle and a gas cooker. Eliza worked on the farm up until her death in 1901.
This is a perfect place to stay when in the Cotswolds, being just a 10-minute drive from Roman Cirencester and 20 minutes’ drive from Cheltenham and its famous horse racing festival in March each year. There are plenty of walks and cycle routes for active guests, and this is a very central position from which to visit the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds, including Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury, Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Campden. Both Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon are also a convenient drive away.
The accommodation provides upside down living with the bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor and the living room and kitchen on the first floor. Outside there is a well-kept front garden with seating area and garden furniture. There is a driveway offering off road parking and a bike store can be made available should guests wish to bring their own bikes to leave the car behind and explore the area. Situated on a working farm, these three holiday properties are surrounded by rural countryside and farm animals. The Old Granary (ref UK12135) is a renovated farm building that has gone under major work to make it a well thought out property, perfect for families and groups. The entrance way still has the original stone work, which gives the property character. On the ground floor you have three double bedrooms which are all very light and airy. The living/dining room and modern kitchen are situated on the first floor, and on the second floor there is a great space that has been designed perfectly for a children’s play area, with games, bean bags, a TV and Playstation 2.

The Old Laundry (ref UK12136) consists of a spacious open plan living space with a wood burner, which keeps the space cosy and welcoming in the winter. Patio doors lead off the living area to a patio and private garden space, which is ideal for spending time outside in the summer months. Upstairs you have two, well-proportioned and well-equipped double bedrooms, one with the ability to be set up as a twin room.

The Chicken Coop (UK12137) is all on one level and has been finished to a high standard, and is the perfect getaway to kick back and relax in. You enter the property through a small porch and are instantly met by a large spacious kitchen area which is modern and fully equipped. The living area has a lovely wood burner which gives a glowing warmth to the property in the winter months. Both bedrooms are fitted with TV’s and offer a high level of comfort, and there is also a wet room giving easier access to facilities. Outside, there is a very large garden that is shared with one other property, but there is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. There is also an interconnecting door that connects to The Old Granary, perfect for large groups.

The property is nestled in the village of Hewelsfield and there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. This border territory is marked by stunning scenery and has brooding castles at Chepstow and Raglan. Explore the market towns of Abergavenny and Monmouth, or enjoy excellent walking in the Forest of Dean and along the riverbank. Fishing, horse riding, cycling and canoeing are readily available. The grounds have access to some amazing walks and the enclosed 2-acre field is perfect for letting the dogs off their leads. There are open ponds and steep slopes all round, so children must be supervised at all times. The property boasts a downstairs entrance way designed for bringing the dogs into, after washing them off outside with the warm water hose, and is also suitable for hanging coats and leaving boots.
