Further afield, the rugged North Devon coastline and wonderful surfing beaches of Croyde or Woolacombe are just a short drive away. North Devon is well positioned for visits to Exmoor, Dartmoor and North Cornwall including the local beauty spots of Bucks Mill, Clovelly and Hartland. With so much to explore in this lovely part of North Devon, this is the perfect base for a memorable holiday. Lark Rise is perfectly located for all the attractions and stunning scenery that North Devon has to offer and is under 2 miles away from the nearest beach at Westward Ho! which is popular for surfers as well as sunbathers alike, at low tide you can even walk across the bay. The house is in a desirable road and offers private parking for up to 5 cars. The property comprises four bedrooms on the first floor, two king size both with an en-suite, a small double, a twin room and a family bathroom. Downstairs you will find a separate toilet, a utility room with a handy pulley clothes airer. There’s a well-equipped kitchen with breakfast table and a pod coffee machine for tasty barista style beverages. Through the doors you walk into the living room/diner which is a comfortable place to sit and relax with the cosy wood burner. If you fancy some extra entertainment there’s also a table football game to enjoy. Outside there is an enclosed garden on two sides of the property encompassing lawn and patio areas and a summerhouse. There is a small stream that flows through the garden so small children should be supervised.
Northam is a small market town lying just north of the historic port town of Bideford and less than 2 miles south of Westward Ho! which offers an array of seaside amenities including free public tennis courts, some fascinating curiosity shops and a range of restaurants and cafes, many of which are regularly visited by locals for their quality fayre. The beaches are a main attraction of this area for many, and the Southwest Coastal Path also runs through Westward Ho! This is a must for keen walkers, runners, and view seekers! Paddling, surfing, canoeing, entertainment for all the family and fishing are all close by too. The popular Tarka Trail can be accessed approximately 3 miles away providing the unique opportunity to follow a disused railway line by foot or by cycle allowing you to enjoy some of Devon’s finest countryside and scenery while discovering the towns of Barnstaple and Bideford where you can wander during their weekly pannier markets, with a host of local produce, quality cafes and crafts on offer.
On your journey stopover at Fremington Quay for a tasty bite to eat and then the estuary-side village of Instow – a must see! And one place not to forget to visit is the world-famous village of Clovelly with its pedestrianised cobbled main street, traditional architecture, donkeys, and views over the Bristol Channel. If golf is your thing, then the Royal North Devon Golf Club which was founded in 1864 and is the oldest golf course in England has to be on your list of places to visit. For a day with a difference take a trip across to Lundy Island from Bideford, home to England’s first statutory Marine Nature Reserve due to its unique flora and fauna. Measuring just 3 miles by ¾ mile, this entire island has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. And don’t forget Exmoor National Park with its magical night skies in Europe’s first ’Dark Sky Reserve’.

Honeysuckle Cottage is a four-bedroom, thatched holiday home nestled in the heart of the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Vane Hill House is located just a short walk from the popular Torquay seafront and harbour. Sleeping up to nine guests in total with over five bedrooms and off-road parking. As you enter the property you find yourself in the spacious ground floor hallway, leading off into the living room with plenty of sofa seating, smart TV and gas fire. The spacious kitchen/diner is also accessed via a door from the hallway, well-equipped with all the appliances you could need and with large dining table and chairs. There is also a beautiful old range in the kitchen. There is a ground floor toilet next to the front door. Upstairs leads to the various bedrooms with the master bedroom benefiting from doors leading to a small balcony looking out over Torquay. In terms of outside space there is a small open area with table and chairs, perfect for enjoying an early morning coffee before heading down to the beach and harbour.
From the property it is just a 5-minute downhill walk to the main harbour with its array of restaurants, bars and pubs, as well as Torquay beach. The popular Princess Theatre is on this stretch, as are the family arcades and golf course. There is so much to do for families and couples alike in the immediate area, however regardless of the reason for your stay Vane Hill House is a great place to start.

The Old Rydon Inn is located on site at the owner’s pub/restaurant in the popular area of Kingsteignton just outside of Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Shaldon.
Boasting facilities such as guests being able to be served in their dining room via the restaurant itself, a quirky dining table which also couples up as a pool table, open fire and bar area with beer pumps in the living room which can be hooked up to barrels at an additional charge. The property is also pet friendly and has plenty of parking on site. As you enter, guests find themselves in the open living/dining area, with smart TV, surround sound system, dining/pool table, open fire and bar area. A great area for spending quality time getting together. Upstairs then leads to the bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen has been recently refurbished with high quality appliances and is fully equipped with all that guests could need, the room also has its own surround sound to really get in the mood while rustling up a meal. should you want to cook while you are away that is! The bathroom benefits from a bath with a shower over, as well as a separate shower enclosure. The first bedroom on the first floor is a great size and is catered more towards children, or younger ages with a bunk bed (double bed on the bottom and single bed on top) as well as a separate single bed. This bedroom also benefits from a Freeview TV and firestick for guests to use. The next bedroom contains a king size bed and Freeview TV also. The third and final bedroom contains zip & link beds which are configured as a super king bed with attached but can be separated on request. This room has a Smart TV and its own surround sound system. By the front door there is bench table and chair seating which the owner often reserves for guests use only, to ensure that there is always somewhere to sit outside of the property.

Located under 3 miles from Crackington Haven, a coastal village at the head of a cove on the Atlantic coast and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is popular with tourists, walkers, surfers and geology enthusiasts. At high tide the shoreline is mainly stony but when low you are greeted to a lovely golden sandy beach with plenty of rock pools to enjoy. And surfers, both experienced and beginners enjoy the varying tidal conditions the cove provides and with lifeguard cover from July to end of September you can relax a little bit more too! If it’s the beach you want with miles of sand, swimming and surf then you’ll be spoiled for choice in the wider area. Much of the coastline is owned by the National Trust and is a haven for wildlife, providing fabulous walking opportunities. There are many pretty coves and inlets to discover within a short drive of this property including Boscastle, Morwenstow and stunning Tintagel, inextricably linked to the legend of King Arthur. Further afield the fishing port of Padstow is a popular tourist destination too. Bude is a fabulous coastal town that once visited, you will want to come back to time and time again. It has something for everyone including great beaches for relaxing and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafés to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the South West Coast Path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside.
Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and a heritage centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafés, pubs, restaurants and an excellent information centre. Broadshade Holiday Apartments are self-catering apartments located just a few minutes’ walk from Paignton, a seaside town making up part of the beautiful English Riviera. The harbour is just down the road with an array of bars and restaurants as well as a small convenience store for stocking up on essentials. Slightly further past the harbour is the large green and beach for a great day out. There are an abundance of activities to do nearby such as a large cinema, crazy golf course, leisure arcades and the pier all located on the stretch of green/beach, plenty to keep the whole family entertained.
Within the town there is also a train and bus station, very handy for guests not wanting to drive. From the train station guests can also take the ’Round Robin’ tour, this famous and award winning tour is the best way to explore South Devon! Town Mills is a historic, Grade II listed former Mill and Manor House situated on the banks of the River Torridge on the outskirts of Great Torrington in North Devon. Built by Lord Rolle in 1823 and made famous as ‘Tarka’s Mill’ in Henry Williamson’s book ‘Tarka The Otter’, Town Mills started life as a Grain Mill and a Saw Mill, both mills being powered by waterwheels. Now, almost 200 years later, Town Mills has been sympathetically converted into seven well-appointed holiday cottages all with their own charm and personality.
From a cosy holiday cottage that sleeps three people, to a larger six-bedroom holiday cottage that sleeps twelve, every cottage benefits from character and charm combined with modern convenience. Located in the beautiful North Devon countryside, Town Mills is ideally situated for visiting the North Devon Coast, Exmoor, travelling The Tarka Trail, or visiting our next-door neighbour, the RHS Gardens at Rosemoor.
Riverside is one of the most popular cottages at Town Mills, partly because of its location and private veranda overlooking the river. This charming two-storey cottage originally formed part of the stable blocks almost 200 years ago. It is a good-sized four-bedroom property. On the ground floor there is a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, and a twin bedroom. Both of these bedrooms have French windows offering easy access to the veranda. With nobody to overlook you, waking up to the views of the river and countryside is a great way to start the day. The main bathroom is also downstairs, and has an over-bath shower, plus toilet and wash basin. Two further twin rooms are located upstairs. A selection of outdoor furniture on the veranda provides the ideal setting for enjoying a little al-fresco dining whilst looking at the local wildlife. You may spot an otter if you’re lucky.
On-site, there is a indoor shared swimming pool which is kept warm between 31-32 degrees, so is suitable for even the smallest guests. The owners offer the opportunity to reserve the pool for your exclusive use, allowing you the chance for a session of family fun, or a quiet moment to relax. There is a games room with a free pool table and a classic table football, along with a dart board and fruit machine. Located by the riverside, but securely fenced, the children’s play area offers picnic bench seating with swings, slide and climbing frame, as well as an elevated playhouse, its the ideal spot to spend a lazy afternoon with a picnic whilst trying to spot an otter or some of the other many local wildlife visitors. For younger guests, there is a kids hideaway where they can escape to. On the opposite side of the Mill there is a garden where you can enjoy a few moments, maybe have a picnic or watch the peacocks as they wander around.
The countryside around Town Mills is dotted with sleepy villages nestled among the hills, while extensive woodlands, traversed by many footpaths, offer the chance to experience the area’s natural beauty. Local attractions include the renowned RHS gardens at Rosemoor (adjacent) and Dartington Crystal, offering a factory tour and visitor centre. Great Torrington is only a mile away with good shopping and amenities, and there is golf at nearby Hartland. Town Mills adjoins Torrington Common which extends to 365 acres, incorporating 20 miles of footpaths. The common is a haven for wildlife. The ‘Big Sheep’ and ‘Milky Way’ theme parks are each less than 10 miles away.
The River Torridge runs downstream to the ancient port of Bideford, still with a working quay offering boat trips to Lundy Island. Just around the corner is the attractive little town of Appledore with its colourful houses and narrow streets. To either side lies Devon’s most spectacular stretch of coastal scenery – a chain of magnificent cliffs and rocky promontories, interspersed here and there by long flat sandy beaches, where the Atlantic breakers roll in to create ideal surfing conditions. There are splendid beaches at Instow and Westward Ho!, the latter bordered by the Royal North Devon Golf Club, and the Northam Nature Reserve. Further west is the supremely picturesque Clovelly, with narrow, cobbled main street descending at a dizzying gradient to the little harbour below. The cathedral city of Exeter can be reached via a delightful drive through lush river valleys.
