    The Old Cook House is a detached bungalow set in the grounds of the owners’ smallholding in Winchester. This ground-floor property offers peaceful accommodation for guests wanting to explore this rural location, but also within easy reach of the coast.
    The Old Cook House boasts a king-size bedroom, and a twin bedroom also offers a well-equipped kitchen, a bathroom with an L-shaped bath and shower, as well as a living area complete with a feature fireplace (for ornamental purposes only), and a Smart TV. There is also the benefit of a boot room for when you need to dry off your dog. Outside, there is an enclosed garden with a private seating area where you can relax and take in the surroundings.
    The property is set in a quiet location with walks directly from the property and a recreation ground with plenty of equipment for young children, a football pitch and a tennis court. In the opposite direction there are walks with views of Winchester Cathedral and the local supermarket is just a 10-minute walk away. Historic Winchester has various museums including The Great Hall with the Round Table. Marwell Zoo and Winchester Science Centre with Planetarium are within a 15-minute drive. Winchester Cathedral’s Christmas Market is very popular with its bustling atmosphere. The Watercress Line and Hinton Ampner Gardens are within a 30-minute drive. Jane Austin’s House and Gilbert White’s House and Gardens, Peppa Pig World and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard are within a 40-minute drive. Also within easy reach of the beautiful Exbury Gardens from spring to autumn. There are two golf courses within 2 miles and one golf course within walking distance.
    During the First World War, the village was used by the army which had an extensive veterinary hospital for horses. After the war the camps were split up into agricultural small holdings and the army huts were used as dwellings; part of this cottage was the army cookhouse, hence the name. There were many huts here in the 1960’s however The Old Cook House is the only remaining army hut in the area.

Day trips to the Isle of Wight and HMS Victory and the Mary Rose can also be enjoyed. National Trust homes such as Goodwood House, Petworth House and Uppark House, Weald and Downland Living Museum and West Dean Gardens are all also worth a visit.

    It is a scenic walk over the cliff tops to Barton-on-Sea, and you can stop off at the café for refreshments on route! There are Victorian Pleasure Gardens throughout the village which follow the river, and keen walkers can take the coastal path from Keyhaven Nature Reserve to Lymington. Although it is a long walk, it takes in some incredible views. Further afield you can park your car at Hengistbury Head and walk all the way to Boscombe, or alternatively from Highcliffe Castle to Mudeford, then take the short ferry to Hengistbury.
    The beaches in the locality are very clean, and many people swim from the Milford Beaches. There is a paddle boarding shop in the village, and lessons can be taken in Mudeford. The water in Christchurch Harbour is very shallow, and great for those learning to paddle board. Lymington, with its harbour, restaurants, inns, nautical boutiques and ferry link to the Isle of Wight, is only about 5 miles. The New Forest is known for it extensive scenic walks, cycling and riding routes, whilst other places to visit include Beaulieu Motor Museum, Paultons Park, Bucklers Hard, Marwell Zoo, New Forest Owl and Otter Park and Christchurch Priory. Many larger beaches with various attractions are within easy reach, including Sandbanks, Poole and Bournemouth.
