A long stretch of award winning sandy beach is ideal for a fun filled family day and is just 5 minutes from the door. With the coastal resorts of Scarborough and Bridlington both 6 miles it is perfect for discovering the untold beauty of the Yorkshire coast. Filey is home to an 18 hole cliff top golf course and a mix of shops, inns, tea rooms and restaurants are on offer. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton where rare species of birds can be seen nesting affords stunning coastal views. Historic homes and halls are easily accessed with Burton Agnes Hall boasting a large Monet and Renoir art collection, Sewerby Hall and Gardens and a little further away is Castle Howard. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park is easily accessed and a visit to Dalby Forest, home to the world mountain bike event is a must boasting picnic areas and a host of family events including Go Ape, cycle tracks for all ages and throughout the summer time there are live concerts and some very well known artists perform. The area is a delight for walkers and cyclists alike, with an abundance of routes to choose from that take in the breathtaking scenery that can be found in all directions. Enjoy a countryside walk, right from your doorstep, down into nearby Staithes and joining onto the Cleveland Way as it snakes across cliff tops and down into hidden coves and bays. Staithes is popular with tourists and has a number of traditional pubs, a coffee shop and even its own independent art gallery. It has a fascinating history of pirates and smugglers, as well as links to Captain Cook who worked here as a child. Nearby Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a fabulous up and coming holiday destination with plenty of places to eat and drink as well as a pier, and is well known in the area as a surfer’s paradise with a number of schools for those wanting to give it a try. There is also horse riding, fishing at Scaling Dam and golf nearby.
The Gothic town of Whitby is just 13 miles away and is famous for its links to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It offers a hectic schedule of festivals and events all year round including the Goth Weekend, Folk Week and its own Regatta, as well as cobbled streets full of independent shops and traders. The Whitby Abbey towers over the town and can be reached by climbing the famous 199 steps and affords fantastic views of the town and out to sea. There are plenty of traditional dog friendly pubs with live music, tea rooms and delis, as well as some fantastic places to eat. Why not catch a tourist boat out to sea in search of minke whales and seals, or enjoy a trip on the steam train that snakes its way through the National Park into Heartbeat Country. There are plenty of seaside towns and villages to explore along this dramatic coastline, or take a trip to the walled city of York with its many attractions. Island Farm House is situated just outside the village of Staintondale and set amongst rolling fields of the North York Moors National Park. Island Farm House is nestled half way between Whitby and Scarborough on the North Yorkshire Coast. There are wonderful walks and cycling straight from the door and out into the National Park and there is bike storage available on-site. Enjoy the many delights of the area including hidden coves and beaches, exhilarating cliff top walks and coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay, and Ravenscar where you can walk down to the foot of the cliffs to view the seal colony. Wonderful Whitby is further north with its busy cobbled streets and independent shops offering everything from Gothic clothing to jet stone jewellery. There is an abundance of traditional pubs with live music that accept pets, coffee shops and tea rooms, and an increasingly popular food scene with gastro pubs and bistros complementing award winning fish and chip shops. There are plenty of dog friendly beach areas to explore where you can enjoy rock pooling and fossil hunting. Keep an eye on the events calendar as there is always something happening in Whitby from the famous Goth weekends, a regatta, music festivals and a folk week being highlights of a year round calendar. Just south of Staintondale you will find the traditional seaside resort of Scarborough with its busy amusement arcades, a waterpark and sandy beaches. The open air theatre hosts live international acts throughout the summer, and no trip to Scarborough is complete without a stroll around Peasholm Park and the world-famous Peasholm Park Naval Warfare which takes place throughout the summer.
With the North York Moors National Park right on your doorstep there are many walks and cycle routes to explore, or just enjoy a drive through some of the most stunning scenery. There is so much to see nearby but you may fancy a trip further afield to the vibrant walled city of York, an hour away, with its ancient minster and historic buildings. A hotel is at the end of the farm drive, a bistro is opposite the hotel gates, and the village of Scalby, with its two pubs, café and village shop, is within walking distance. Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby are nearby, and the farm is set on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, which is an excellent base for walking in stunning countryside.
