The local tour bus is an excellent way of visiting some of Whitby’s highlights including the stunning Abbey and St. Mary’s Church positioned on the Cliff top where you can enjoy spectacular views over Whitby and out to sea. There are also many events going on all year round including Whitby’s own Regatta, Folk week, music weekends and Goth Weekends which offer something to please everyone. If you would like to travel further afield you can visit many pretty coastal resorts dotted along the coast from Whitby including Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay which are all worth a day out. The Yorkshire Dales makes for a most scenic walk or bike ride, with its rolling hills, tranquil woodland, open countryside and tumbling streams. Aysgarth Falls, Moor Cote, Cover Bridge, Ellingstring and Masham Bank are certainly worth seeing. History buffs are often drawn to the former Cistercian monastery of Jervaulx Abbey, which was founded in 1156 and is now open to visitors all year round with an on-site tea room and a wide range of events. Middleham should also be high on the agenda – this famous horse racing town was once home to Richard III and Middleham Castle is steeped in history. Spend a day at the horse racing links and watch world class racehorses gallop down the track.

Guests will find an abundance of top quality local pubs and restaurants offering fresh local produce in the area. Visitors of all ages will love The Forbidden Corner which is just a few miles away, a folly-turned family attraction that has surprises waiting around every corner. The popular market town of Leyburn is only 4 miles away, with its weekly farmers’ market, along with a variety of quaint shops, tea rooms and restaurants for an evening out. On the doorstep is York Golf Club and Strensall Common, a huge conservation area maintained by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and which is popular with birdwatchers.
Regular buses run from the village to the centre of the ancient walled city of York, 7 miles away. Steeped in history and brimming with attractions, York appeals to all ages. Visit the magnificent minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre and the Railway Museum, browse the art galleries and stroll along the cobbled streets and city walls. Surrounded by 10 acres of meadowland in the grounds of Ovington Grange, this charming detached cottage offers superb accommodation, and there is stabling and equestrian facilities for riders and carriage drivers by arrangement with the owner. This single-storey accommodation has level access throughout with wide doorways meaning it is easily accessible and will appeal to all ages. It has a spacious open-plan kitchen/dining room with gloss units and a full range of appliances, including a coffee machine, dishwasher and TV to cater for your every need. The living room is spacious with comfortable sofas set around an electric wood burner. Two patio doors open out onto the enclosed south-facing patio... a perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee taking in the views beyond.

The accommodation extends to two large bedrooms. The first has a kingsize bed and quality bedding - promising a good night’s sleep! It also has an en-suite bathroom with corner shower. Bedroom two offers two single beds which can zip and link to make a super kingsize bed on request, as well as windows at both aspects of the room bringing in the surrounding views. To the side of the cottage is a lovely enclosed courtyard garden with furniture, ideal for al fresco dining with a glass of wine in the evening. A short walk from the cottage, brings you to the charming hamlet of Ovington and a lovely traditional pub serving home-cooked food and local ales. With so many opportunities to explore whether by car or on foot, the stunning North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Yorkshire Dales National Park are both within easy reach. A short drive away is the market town of Barnard Castle with its bustling high street full of quaint shops, pubs and cafés, as well as the impressive Bowes Museum. Alternatively, the historic Yorkshire market town of Richmond is great for strolling along the cobbled streets and castle walls. Swaledale is increasingly popular with cyclists following the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in 2014 and the annual Tour De Yorkshire. Just a few miles down the road is a bike centre providing cycle hire for those who need it. The Swale Trail runs from Reeth to Keld and is ideal for families. The beautiful village of Brompton lies 8 miles to the west of Scarborough, a tranquil picturesque village home to the church where the poet William Wordsworth married. This lovely detached lodge is situated on the popular holiday park “The Bay” and is close to the seaside resort of Filey. Sandy Bay Beach House benefits from having two comfortable bedrooms each with their own en-suite. There’s a popular pub on-site that serves food, as well as a café style bistro. A leisurely walk takes you directly to the beach, which is over 4 miles long and stretching all the way to Filey. Filey is the nearest town and has a large supermarket as well as shops, restaurants and bars. It is still a very traditional resort with donkeys, fresh seafood stalls and an historic promenade. Scarborough and Bridlington are both within a short drive, both larger and busier than Filey and with plenty of attractions to visit, including leisure centres, waterparks, theatres, a SeaLife Centre and lots more.

The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs is just a short drive away, where you can spot thousands of migrating seabirds from the viewing points along the clifftops. The ever popular puffins attract overseas visitors, and in the spring and summer months you can catch the puffin boat ‘The Yorkshire Belle’ and sail to the foot of the cliffs to get a close up view of the birds, a fantastic opportunity for nature lovers.
