A sweet, little terraced cottage, originally a miner’s cottage, situated in the village of Loftus, a couple of miles from Staithes. With a wood burner and great valley views, this characterful and charming Yorkshire cottage has been lovingly renovated in 2018 to a high standard.

Traditionally furnished and well equipped, this Yorkshire cottage provides a comfortable and romantic hideaway, with a spacious living room, modern kitchen and bathroom plus two cosy bedrooms. Outside the cottage is a great sitting area from where you can enjoy the glorious views over the rolling countryside, and a courtyard style garden offering the perfect spot to sit and relax. Enjoy excellent walks from the doorstep, with a network of public footpaths in the vicinity, including the Eskdale Walk and the Cleveland Way coastal path.

Visit the seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, just a short drive away and boasting the oldest water balanced, funicular cliff tramway in Great Britain alongside great restaurants and beaches.

The village of Loftus has good amenities, including three pubs, a Gin palace with micro-brewery, local grocery shops, bakery and an award winning bookshop stocking plenty of local authors and gifts. In the ‘Iron Valley’ of Skinningrove you’ll find secluded beaches and The Tom Leonard Mining Museum.

Enjoy the fishing port of Whitby, with its winding cobbled streets, famous abbey and wonderful fish and chips, or explore the spectacular coastline and dramatic North York Moors. The area surrounding this Yorkshire cottage offers a wealth of attractions including the steam railway at Grosmont, the pretty market towns of Pickering and Helmsley and stately homes and gardens such as Castle Howard. Masham, renowned for the Black Sheep Brewery, is 10 minutes’ drive and Richmond with its Norman castle, Georgian architecture and thriving theatre is also easily accessible. With beautiful countryside views to the rear, this well equipped and spacious cottage is conveniently close to Skipton. This stone-built cottage has been beautifully styled throughout with spacious rooms, sumptuous furnishings and eclectic artwork. Enter from the cottage garden at the rear into a beautiful light filled kitchen with a breakfast/dining area with wooden floors. Patio doors offer views across the countryside as you sit at the table. The spacious living area steeped in rustic charm is stunning to step into; with beams, a comfortable sofa and chairs, and an electric wood burner set in a traditional fireplace, making a warm cosy setting for relaxing in. A window seat set in the recess looks out across the front garden. Through from the living room is a traditional styled room with a table for board games, comfortable armchairs and a bookcase laden with books. Upstairs are two spacious and comfortable bedrooms, one has dual aspect views and the most fabulous feature wall decor, the second has an en-suite shower room. There are attractive gardens to the front and the rear, and the rear lawned garden is a perfect spot to sit and take in the surrounding countryside.
The nearby 3000-acre grounds of Broughton Hall Estate are at your disposal, wander down through the estate and admire the imposing stately home of Broughton Hall itself, or spot wildlife and birds as well as quaint bridges across the river. Within the estate are the Land Rover Experience offices from where experience days are offered (by direct arrangement with the owner) for an exhilarating drive along the land rover track and obstacles on the estate. The purpose built Wellbeing Centre, Avalon at Broughton Hall, is right on your doorstep and offers the perfect way to unwind, be present and connect.
The property sits beside the A59 giving easy access to the popular market town of Skipton where all amenities can be found, including a train station, leisure centre and canal boat trips. The area is peppered with gourmet pubs serving local produce as well as hearty, traditional pub food, and there are a wide variety of restaurants and bars in Skipton to choose from should you wish to treat yourself and dine out during your stay.
The Tour de France and the Tour de Yorkshire have both passed through Skipton and the surrounding countryside in recent years. Why not bring your bike and explore some of the routes for yourself? The quaint village of Grassington with its individual shops and tea rooms is not to be missed, or visit Bolton Abbey for a relaxing afternoon and woodland walks by the River Wharfe. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. This holiday property is set in the grounds of Maddy House Farm, which dates back to the 15th century. It is surrounded by over 20 acres of its own fields, with breathtaking views across the moorland towards Castleton, which has co-op, tea rooms with part time post office and two pubs. The Heritage Coast of Yorkshire and Whitby are easily accessed, and you can take a leisurely journey through the Esk Valley. Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington can be found a little further afield. A must when visiting this area are the smugglers coves of Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay. Set in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this former mill workers’ cottage is in an idyllic tranquil location at the bottom of a country lane set between the river on one side and a charming mill pond on the other. One of 12 terraced houses fronting onto a cobbled street built in 1783 to house workers for the cotton mill, now lovingly restored to combine a wealth of features with exposed stonework and beams together with the comforts of contemporary living. It makes for an ideal location from which to walk or cycle direct from the door through some of the most scenic countryside in Yorkshire. Conquer one, or all three of the ’Three Peaks’; Ingleborough, Whernside and Penyghent, or cycle through the peaceful and rarely visited Kingdale with its quiet lanes and isolated farmhouses. Alternatively, both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are readily accessible by car.
