Situated in the picturesque village of Alnmouth, this charming detached holiday home, set within the owner’s garden, offers tasteful accommodation within easy walking distance of a beautiful golden beach, friendly pubs and shops. A sought after destination, making an ideal touring base, with nearby mainline railway station and good bus service. Only minutes to Alnwick, with its majestic castle and cobbled streets, nearby Warkworth and Newton-by-the-Sea, and Bamburgh, further up the coast, with its lovely beaches and castles. Cut off from the mainland twice a day to create a semi-island, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne allows visitors to experience complete tranquillity and timelessness. This Grade II listed fishermen’s cottage is ideally placed to enjoy this unique location.

There is a book library in both properties with information about the history of the local area, and also a selection of unique postcards that each tell a story and show how the island has changed throughout the years. A DVD of the TV programme Time Team is available showing their visits to the island and excavations carried out.

The island, a fine walking and bird watching destination, is dominated by 16th century Lindisfarne Castle, standing dramatically on a rocky outcrop – the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, the 7th century seat of Christian learning and where the Lindisfarne Gospels were created.

The road from the island was opened in 1954 by Queen Elizabeth II and on the mainland are Northumberland’s many delights within easy driving distance; Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses for boat trips to the Farne Islands’ bird and seal colonies, and Alnwick Castle and Gardens.

The cottage offers contemporary comfort yet retains its original charm and character, with bespoke designer oak table and chairs and is within walking distance of the harbour and long sandy beaches. The property is designed for couples, but offers a stowaway Z-bed for one additional friend or child. Though each property is completely self-contained, a lockable interconnecting door allows both cottages to be booked by a single family or group (maximum sleeps 4+2). Local carry-out meals available. Number Two The Neuk is situated right in the heart of the welcoming small town of Belford where there are pubs, a tea room and a shop all within easy walking distance. The property has undergone a full rebuild, completed in 2018, and offers tastefully furnished accommodation all conveniently on ground floor level. The living room focuses on a lovely wood burner making this property a suitable choice regardless of the season. The kitchen is in pristine condition and both bedrooms and fresh shower room with walk-in shower are all immaculately presented too. Parking is available outside of the property on a quiet cul-de-sac.
Wooler sits at the foot of the Cheviot Hills and is a popular destination for those who enjoy outdoor activities only 10 miles west from Belford. Local amentities include a fish and chip shop, coffee shop and a Co-op. There is also the farm shop that sells local produce and has a varied menu on offer daily as have the local pubs with some offer food. The picture perfect coastal village of Bamburgh with its dramatic fortress and wide sweep of golden, sandy beach is a highly sought after seaside destination and is only 6 miles away.
The historic market towns of Alnwick to the south and Berwick-upon-Tweed to the north are equidistant at 15 miles away and offer a wide array of facilities. Beach 6 miles. Shop 300 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Swansfield Stables is situated on the outskirts of Alnwick and enjoys a tranquil setting on a smallholding. The original stables is thought to have been designed by the acclaimed 19th century Newcastle architect John Dobson. At the rear of Swansfield Stables there is a peaceful cobbled courtyard which gives access to a detached former cart shed, which has been beautifully transformed to create this self-catering holiday accommodation. The open plan living space covers the entire ground floor where a wood burner creates a cosy ambience. The family bedroom and shower room are on the first floor and immaculately presented throughout.

The welcoming owners of Swansfield Stables are conveniently on hand giving ample privacy to guests but happy to help ensure visitors enjoy their stay. There is shared use of a wood fired pizza oven available along with outdoor furniture; an idyllic spot to dine al fresco.

There is a wide array of amenities available within the heart of the historic market town of Alnwick, most within half a mile. Alnwick Garden is a popular tourist attraction where there is a spectacular Cascade Waterfall and restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe. Alnwick Castle is also well worth a visit.

The picturesque town of Rothbury, which sits at the foot of the Simonside Hills, is a short drive to the west. The National Trust property at Cragside is situated on the edge of Rothbury and is nestled within 1000 acres to explore.

Heading east of Alnwick is the stunning Heritage coastline which this area is renowned for. With miles of golden, sandy beaches to discover, Swansfield Stables makes an excellent base from which to explore the heather-clad hills to the west and the stunning seashore to the east. Coopers Cottage is the perfect terraced holiday home for visiting the Lakes. It is perfectly situated near to the main road for getting out and about but far enough away that you hear nothing but the wind in the trees and the birds singing. The cottage has been beautifully restored to a good standard making your stay comfortable. With the multi-fuel burner in the living area and the underfloor heating, you can be toasty warm on those cold winters’ evenings and in the summer you can sit out on the patio offering generous views and access to the paddock. The cottage was once a thriving gunpowder works dating back to 1798 and part of Low Wood Mill gunpowder works located on the estuary with access to the sea, now only the cottages and the clock tower survives today as a reminder of the past. The Burrow has been beautifully restored to a good standard making your stay comfortable. It was once a thriving gunpowder works dating back to 1798 and part of Low Wood Mill gunpowder works. Originally built around 1699, Yew Tree Cottage is a charming, Grade II listed period property nestled in a peaceful cul-de-sac in a picturesque hamlet known as Broomhaugh. This gorgeous ‘chocolate box’ cottage is brimming with features and simply oozes character. Recently redecorated throughout and completed to a high standard, the interior of the property boasts a cosy, homely ambience.
The open plan living space covers the entire ground floor. The living area, with its exposed beams, has a wood burner that sits within the Tudor fireplace and makes a superb focal point. The bespoke kitchen is very well equipped and has unique 17th century flagstones. A small dining area completes the living space. An open tread staircase leads to the first floor where there are two bedrooms. The master bedroom is open vaulted and has a super king size bed which can be made up as two single beds. The second bedroom has a single bed and while small is also very cosy. There is a ‘Jack n Jill’ style shower room which has a mains fed shower serving both bedrooms. At the rear of the cottage is a small private "sitootery" courtyard which is fully enclosed; ideal for a morning coffee, a sundowner or to dine alfresco after a day exploring glorious Northumberland.
The local pub is but a five minute walk away down a footpath. It has a welcoming open fire and serves great food and local beers. It is also dog friendly. There is plenty of local fishing available for Salmon, Sea Trout and trout in season on the River Tyne. Provisions are to be found in Corbridge 3¼ miles further along the Tyne Valley.

Less than a mile away and an easy walk is the village of Bardon Mill where there is a lovely picnic area, coffee shop/general store, and a dog-friendly pub which serves bar and Thai food, and also has a beer garden. From here catch the train - you can be in Newcastle or Carlisle in under 45 minutes. The historic market town of Hexham has a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the Roman town of Corbridge and meander around its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops and take a stroll along the river.
In close proximity to the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England.
