Paddock Cottage is a charming and attractive former farm workers cottage with a cosy open fire. Enjoying splendid views and situated on a mixed working farm, with cows, calves, horses and three pet pigs called Prudence, Portia and Primrose, about 2 miles north of the historic market town of Alnwick. Both holiday cottages are furnished and equipped to provide a comfortable style of accommodation in a quiet location, reached by a country lane which passes through the farm. This is a superb area in which to base your holiday as the surrounding countryside is wonderful, and the beautiful coastline with its many sandy beaches is just a short drive away. A good range of castles, stately homes, and other fascinating attractions can also be found within very easy reach. Golf and horse riding close by. Shops and pubs 2 miles.

There are wildlife cameras which feed live pictures direct to the flatscreen TV in each cottage, so you can watch barn owls, badgers and other wildlife. The area is rich in wildlife and ideal for walkers. Whitelee Farm is an idyllic base for exploring the Roman wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest Park and the Scottish borders. Oak Tree Cottage is a lovely cottage with floor to ceiling windows, letting light flood into the open plan living accommodation. These delightful, terraced, stone barn conversions are in the centre of Otterburn only 200 yards from the refurbished and highly acclaimed The William de Percy bar, which is dog friendly and has an excellent menu for both lunch and dinner. Otterburn sits on the edge of the National Park in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is approximately 20 minutes from Kielder Water, and only a few miles from Hadrian’s Wall, as well as being very close to the local wedding venues Le Petit Chateau and Otterburn Hall. The village, once the site of the famous 1388 victory of the Scots over the English, nestles close to the banks of the River Rede between the hills and the moors overlooking the North Tyne Valley. With pretty walks and cycle routes from the door, as well as local fishing, horse riding, golf and a friendly village shop/tea room; this is a superb location for a relaxing holiday any time of the year. The village was once the home of a busy weaving industry and houses Otterburn Mill, marking the village’s historic past and a great tourist stop off for afternoon tea. Across from the small public footpath that runs along the front of the cottages, an ideal area for relaxing after a days exploring. The location has easy access to the Northumberland coast with miles of unspoilt and uncrowded golden beaches and an outstanding coastline peppered with castles and friendly locals. The famous Alnwick Castle was used in the filming of Harry Potter and is only 26 miles away. In Alnwick, you can lunch in the famous Treehouse Restaurant, visit the enchanting water gardens or simply stroll the cobbled streets and soak up the history. Shop 400 yards, pub 200 yards.

Glendale Cottage (ref W43490) and Glendale Mews (ref W43489) are the ideal spot for a relaxing and peaceful holiday in beautiful natural surroundings. There is an indoor, heated swimming pool which guests can hire for private use (at cost), and also the use of over 11 acres of natural woodland and grounds that form part of this beautiful location. The owners live on-site in the original period farmhouse, accessed via a driveway lined with rhododendrons through a small dense wood. There is a small wooded picnic and play area with a log cabin function room and a large charcoal BBQ, as well as another wooded area accommodating hens and a natural pond. There is access to a public footpath from the properties.
Located on the southern edge of the Northumberland National Park and inside the International Dark Skies Park, Glendale is easily found on the B6318 just north of Haltwhistle.
Perfect for guests who enjoy walking, rambling or cycling, these properties are within walking distance of Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site, and are situated centrally between Walltown Craggs and Cawfield’s picnic area, two of the most picturesque views along the wall. Just a little further along are the Roman remains and museums of Vindolanda and Housesteads as well as Steel Rigg, Sycamore Gap and the Visitor Centre at Once Brewed (The Sill), which offers charging, points for electric vehicles.
Many other activities are available locally, including birdwatching, horse riding, tennis, golf, fishing and open air swimming. Glendale is perfectly placed for easy access to many other historical Roman sites, forts and temples, the National Nature Reserves of Muckle Moss and Greenlee Lough, and the spectacular Kielder Forest and Reservoir offering a variety of sailing and water sports. Northumberland is a county of wild open spaces, unspoilt and breathtaking.
For those guests wishing to explore further afield, within an hour’s drive there is Carlisle, Gateway to Scotland and the Lake District, the historic town of Hexham, and fabulous shopping at the Metrocentre, Gateshead, as well as Newcastle city with its regenerated riverside, shopping, theatres and nightlife.
