Byrness House is also located in the middle of a gold award Dark Sky Area in the darkest patch, perfect for astronomers and star gazers, and only 12 miles from Keilder observatory and park. An ideal base for friends and family to get together for holidays or special occasions. Outdoor pursuits are a huge attraction in the area, and a favourite location for walkers and adventure seekers. For golfers, there is a golf course 17 miles away in the nearby village of Bellingham. The well equipped farmhouse kitchen, large dining room and living room ensures a relaxing evening after exploring the many visitor attractions in what is reputedly the friendliest county in England. The Blue Reef Aquarium is less than a mile away and further north there is the beautiful heritage coast where a visit to Alnwick, with its famous castle and cobbled streets should not be missed. Hadrian’s wall is a spectacular World Heritage Site where you will find dramatic countryside and Roman Forts along the way, and where you can also visit the famous tree in ’Sycamore Gap’, featured in ’Robin Hood’. Newcastle is a vibrant city where you can admire the grand historic architecture or wander along the rejuvenated quayside, or perhaps visit the museums and galleries, including the Baltic for the wonderful views. If you wish to enjoy one of the restaurants or bars you can take one of the metro trains and enjoy the city without having the hassle of driving. After a day exploring this fantastic friendly county you will be pleased to return and relax in this welcoming apartment, with sea views from the large bay window in the master bedroom. Located close to Whitley Bay and Tynemouth with stunning beaches, bars and restaurants, this absolutely charming detached bungalow offers a mix of tasteful decor to provide a lovely base for up to six people. With a cosy wood burner and pretty rear enclosed garden, the cottage is set on the owners award-winning arable and beef farm. With chickens, horses and some pet sheep, children and, of course adults are welcome to visit the animals once the owner has explained the workings of the farm. A real bonus is the quirky little shepherds hut to the side of the cottage which is perfect for sitting in and watching the sunsets, chilled with a book or glass of wine, it’s a lovely extra. The owners have given attention to detail to provide the comforts in this homely property, which is all on one level. The two gardens for relaxing are lovely if you want to stay in or a bonus to come back to after a day out exploring where you can admire some countryside views. Most of the windows have views of either animals, countryside or the garden.
There are ample supermarkets, local shops, and restaurants all within a few minutes drive and the Metro is easily reached for exploring further afield. Within a few minutes are plenty of village pubs and only a little further you have Tynemouth with award-winning beaches and Whitley Bay, both with lovely promenades and cafés. There really is something for everyone in and around the location no matter what your age, the whole of Northumberland is easily reached from here. You can happily spend a day in Alnwick visiting the famous castle and exploring the cobbled streets or indeed keep travelling and visit the wonderful heritage coastline peppered with castles and friendly villages. Wherever you go along this part of the county you will be guaranteed a real friendly ’Geordie’ welcome, after all Northumberland was voted the best place to holiday in the 2018 British Travel Awards.
