With a fully renovated restaurant on site, the lodges are less than a mile from the centre of the village of Otterburn, on the very edge of the Northumberland National Park. The park is just inside the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the largest in Europe, ideal for stargazers and astronomers. The village has a mill shop, and the shop/café sells local produce. A highly acclaimed wedding venue, Le Petit Château is easily accessed only a mile away and guests can enjoy staying in the lodges and having some downtime after the wedding. The long wooded drive up to the park sets the scene for your break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

To the north lies the busy town of Seahouses and the Farne Islands.

This semi-detached, dormer style bungalow occupies a pleasant position on the cusp of the traditional seaside village of Seahouses, which offers a wide array of tearooms, restaurants, pubs and shops. Boat trips run from the nearby harbour to the Farne Islands, famous for their nesting seabirds and grey seal colonies. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, protected by its dramatic fortress, is only 2 miles north with its wide expanse of golden, and often empty sandy beaches, and where the tidal island of Lindisfarne can be viewed, locally known as Holy Island. A further 2 miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary.
Budle Bay is a bird sanctuary and at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is home to countless thousands of sea and land birds, making this location a haven for bird watchers. The market town of Alnwick, with its castle, offers many facilities a few miles inland. Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction with its grand cascade waterfall and a restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe. Lottie’s Place offers an excellent base from which to explore the Heritage coastline, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Horse riding is available only 200 yards away, and there’s an impressive golf course on the links close by.

Situated close to the harbour and the town centre of the popular seaside town of Amble is this spacious, semi-detached bungalow with its own heated outside shed for storage. The town boasts a number of fish and chip shops, an award-winning ice cream shop, a Sunday market and a fine seafood restaurant next to the lifeboat house. From the harbour, you can take a Puffin boat trip to Coquet Island and see the RSPB bird sanctuary. Amble is set on the edge of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty-the Northumberland Coast, which comprises empty golden beaches, rolling sand dunes, rocky outcrops, unbroken sea views and a network of tracks and paths. The region is simply a paradise for walkers and cyclists, and as the protected site stretches over 100 miles, you certainly won’t be short on places to explore.

Real Downtonians are advised to visit Alnwick Castle, which featured in the popular BBC production of Downton Abbey. They might be a little outnumbered however, as young witches and wizards also flock to the site which was used as part of the Hogwarts set in the Harry Potter movies. Adjacent to the castle is The Alnwick Garden, a fantastic complex of water gardens with grand cascades and the world’s largest treehouse.
