Looking for something a little out of the ordinary for a getaway in rural Northumberland? Then look no further than this quirky, Alpine-style holiday lodge. Inside it is charming and quirky. The open plan living space and dining area are perfect for that special get-together with friends or family. There is a large wood burner for the cooler nights, with comfy sofas to curl up on. Décor is as you would expect of a lodge, with wooden floors and panelling, tartans and checks and it has a wonderful homely feel to it. The kingsize bedroom has doors leading out onto a spacious decked balcony where you can sit and enjoy views of the gardens and beyond. A large bathroom with sumptuous underfloor heating completes this floor. Outside is where the fun begins. Pop on a robe and take a dip in the hot tub, surrounded by trees and shrubbery, it’s a perfect hideaway. Find a quiet spot to read a book, or set the table and enjoy an al fresco supper. Steps lead off into a secluded garden with fruit trees and benches to sit and a raised pergola, a perfect spot to sit and enjoy a glass of bubbly. The garden opens up into a paddock and the most amazing wall to wall views of the Tyne Valley and North Cumbrian Fells. An elevated decking area sits in the farthest spot with uninterrupted views of the countryside beyond. As night draws in, take a warm throw to wrap up and sit and experience the amazing starry skies above Northumberland.
Out and about this is a fabulous place to explore with so much to see and do. Set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, the Scottish borderland and the Lake District National Park, which is just an hour away. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. A must visit is the historic market town of Hexham, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops, stop for a coffee or take a stroll along the river. Locally there is an abundance of eateries to choose from. A nearby inn serving good food and ales offers astronomers a star gazing experience and is a 20-minute walk away, with nearby Haltwhistle, Bardon Mill and Hexham offering a range of pubs and restaurants. Birch Cottage has a multi-fuel burner for a warm and welcoming interior, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring. There are wildlife cameras which feed live pictures direct to the flatscreen TV in each cottage, so you can watch barn owls, badgers and other wildlife. The area is rich in wildlife and ideal for walkers. Whitelee Farm is an idyllic base for exploring the Roman wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest Park and the Scottish borders. Newcastle and Edinburgh are within an easy drive. Shopping in Otterburn and Jedburgh, both 15 minutes away.

Glendale Cottage (ref W43490) and Glendale Mews (ref W43489) are the ideal spot for a relaxing and peaceful holiday in beautiful natural surroundings. There is an indoor, heated swimming pool which guests can hire for private use (at cost), and also the use of over 11 acres of natural woodland and grounds that form part of this beautiful location. The owners live on-site in the original period farmhouse, accessed via a driveway lined with rhododendrons through a small dense wood. There is a small wooded picnic and play area with a log cabin function room and a large charcoal BBQ, as well as another wooded area accommodating hens and a natural pond. There is access to a public footpath from the properties.
Located on the southern edge of the Northumberland National Park and inside the International Dark Skies Park, Glendale is easily found on the B6318 just north of Haltwhistle.
Perfect for guests who enjoy walking, rambling or cycling, these properties are within walking distance of Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site, and are situated centrally between Walltown Craggs and Cawfield’s picnic area, two of the most picturesque views along the wall. Just a little further along are the Roman remains and museums of Vindolanda and Housesteads as well as Steel Rigg, Sycamore Gap and the Visitor Centre at Once Brewed (The Sill), which offers charging, points for electric vehicles.
Many other activities are available locally, including birdwatching, horse riding, tennis, golf, fishing and open air swimming. Glendale is perfectly placed for easy access to many other historical Roman sites, forts and temples, the National Nature Reserves of Muckle Moss and Greenlee Lough, and the spectacular Kielder Forest and Reservoir offering a variety of sailing and water sports. For those guests wishing to explore further afield, within an hour’s drive there is Carlisle, Gateway to Scotland and the Lake District, the historic town of Hexham, and fabulous shopping at the Metrocentre, Gateshead, as well as Newcastle city with its regenerated riverside, shopping, theatres and nightlife.

All on one level, with panoramic views over the countryside, guests will find Jasmine Cottage warm and welcoming. The open plan living, kitchen and dining area with dining table and 4 chairs, is light and spacious, and has windows looking out over the horses in the field opposite. Customers are welcome to bring their own dog to stay. It should be noted that the owners have their own pets on site (very friendly); a lovely golden retriever, two cats, and 4 horses and 4 sheep.

Situated in the owner’s grounds, yet quietly nestled away, this semi-detached bungalow is 4 miles from the popular village of Lanchester, 3 miles from Consett for supermarkets and pubs and just 11 miles away from the city of Durham. The perfect spot for a quiet break, the village of Lanchester offers a super selection of places to eat, including three local pubs, an Italian restaurant and fish and chip shop. The very well regarded Knitsley Farm Shop is also only a little over 2 miles away and has a fabulous selection of local food and drink, and is definitely worth the trip.

Ideal for guests who enjoy walking and cycling. There are numerous established public footpaths, walks and cycle paths close by, and the nearest cycle path is the C2C. The beautiful hills and valleys of Teesdale and Weardale are both between 20 and 30 minutes’ drive away, and walkers will find themselves surrounded by some of the most scenic countryside that County Durham has to offer. Hadrian’s Wall can be reached within an hour’s drive too and offers a more historic trail for walkers to take. The Derwent Valley Railway Path leads east towards the outskirts of Durham and is very popular with cyclists, whilst the Waskerley Way leads west and on into the vast open spaces of Weardale.

Old Kielder Castle Cottage lies in the prettiest part of the village of Kielder, directly opposite the castle, which can be admired from the large enclosed garden. Visitors to Kielder village and surrounding area are spoilt for choice, as the area is a paradise for mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, fishermen and water enthusiasts. It is ideally located for stargazers and photographers, as this semi-detached holiday cottage is close to the Kielder Observatory. The castle houses a visitor centre, with a licensed café featuring a webcam to capture the ospreys and wildlife, and also holds varied exhibitions throughout the seasons.
The cottage has been sympathetically restored from a 1775 stable for the castle, into a contemporary cottage, which is ideal for couples or small families. Relax in the large bath after a day’s cycling or walking, or curl up on the comfy sofa and watch a film in front of the cosy wood burner. The rear area has a pretty tiered patio area for extra privacy to relax and unwind. The open beams, underfloor heated stone floors and wood burner all help to retain the character of the cottage.
Kielder is set in the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the largest expanse of dark sky in Europe, perfect for astronomers. The surrounding parks all have something to offer visitors. There is a hop on/off ferry which takes you all around the water to admire the stunning scenery with a visitor centre, bird of prey centre and bar with picnic tables along the front.
The local pub and licensed café are only a short walk away, which means you can leave your car behind and enjoy a quiet drink with friends. This property is within a great location for exploring the abundance of visitor attractions in what is reputedly the friendliest and least inhabited county in England. Hadrian’s Wall and the Northumberland Heritage Coast (Alnwick Castle only 50 miles) make great days out and are easily drivable. Bullions Farm Cottage is set on the owner’s beef farm, who also breed rare breed Belted Galloway cows and Clydesdale horses, and is an attractive stone cottage with its own private and enclosed garden with a hot tub for your enjoyment. Bullions Farm Cottage was refurbished in 2019 and is a cosy little cottage perfect for couples or a family getaway. There is a modern, well-equipped kitchen and living room on the ground floor and upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom all nicely decorated.
