Designed by William Bell circa 1899, Dunvarlich House is a superb example of Arts and Crafts movement architecture and has a Historic Scotland listing category B. The house occupies a stunning position with breathtaking views overlooking the River Tay, with its 18th-century stone bridge, glens and mountains beyond. To the front of the house there are steps that lead down to a beautiful river walk. The house is entered by an Oriental-style vestibule with pale green stained glass, opening into a long, imposing hall and has been lovingly restored and elegantly furnished with antiques for discerning guests and families. It boasts original oak panelling in the drawing room, wood-burning stove, glass sun porch and a quaint, original cloakroom. A double staircase sweeps up either side of a fireplace with log burning stove, leading to four generous bedrooms and two large Victorian bathrooms. The caretakers are resident in a completely separate private rear wing.

The Royal Burgh of Auchterarder has a 1½ mile long high street, which offers a fine selection of quality independent shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants. For those who enjoy learning of the local culture and history, there are many castles, historic houses and gardens to choose from including Stirling Castle, Doune Castle and Drummond Castle Gardens. There are three whisky distilleries and visitor attractions close by, and with Crieff, Perth and Stirling only a short drive away, you’ll never be stuck for things to do. Just over an hour away are the cosmopolitan cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. If you prefer to leave the car behind, the local railway station provides links to all major towns and cities. There are several whisky distilleries where you can see the distilling and sample a dram including The Famous Grouse. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is just over a 30-minute drive, where you can explore the spectacular countryside. Families will enjoy a trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park and Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre. A great location for friends and family visiting students at Stirling University, or attending one of the graduation ceremonies.
Crieff and Perth are only a short drive away, and you are just over an hour’s drive to the heart of Glasgow and Edinburgh. If you prefer to leave the car behind, then the local railway station provides links to all major towns and cities, and there is a regular bus service from the high street. Beach 33 miles. Walking is a popular pastime round these parts with the Angus Glens easily reached and the Cateran Trail (a circular 60-mile walk) popular with hikers of all ability levels. Golf is well catered for, with the renowned Rosemount course just a 5-minute drive away. Gleneagles and St Andrews are further afield for those who like to really test their skills.
Edinburgh and Glasgow can be reached within a couple of hours for days out further afield. The slopes of Glenshee are close by and cater for many activities, including mountain biking, hang gliding and abseiling for the adventurous. Golf is also available nearby. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

There are many interesting places to visit in the area, including historic castles and gardens, and whisky distilleries.
