This detached country cottage, renovated in 2020/2021 is situated on a working farm and boasts stunning views over to the Mull of Galloway and over towards the Isle of Man. This area of Dumfries and Galloway boasts rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches, which benefit from the warmth of the passing Gulf Stream. The cottage is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, offering an ideal base from which to explore the Machars Peninsula and the Galloway Hills.
There are many beautiful gardens to visit, including the renowned Logan Botanical Gardens, which is a paradise to behold. You can also explore quaint villages such as Sandhead, Port William, Portpatrick, The Isle of Whithorn and the Mull of Galloway, home to the RSPB nature reserve, where thousands of seabirds nest on the cliff face during spring and summer.
The cottage is a short drive from Wigtown, which is famous for being Scotland’s National Book Town, a book lovers haven. This is also a great destination for cycling, fishing and golfing with St Medans 9 hole golf course and beach just 1½ miles down the road. This is a fantastic area for walkers, whether you are interested in clifftop, beach, hills or forest walks. There is easy access to The Galloway Forest Park, with its tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs and ancient woodland, as well as a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey. The park has also been awarded the status of one of only four Dark Sky Parks in the western world and when the sun sets, enthusiasts come to wonder at the universe revealed above. Dalmellington, at the far end of the park, is home to the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory.

Johnnie’s Cabin has a relaxing open plan living space and the cabin can be enjoyed all year round. In the summer months you can fling open the large floor to ceiling patio doors to the decking and on those chillier days you can cosy up in front of the wonderful wood burner, perfect! There are two bedrooms, one double and one bunk and a shower room completes this adorable lodge. Outside, not only can you enjoy your private decking with gas barbecue, you can also enjoy the grounds of Rockhall Tower adjacent to the cabin.
Whilst you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Souter Johnnie’s Cabin you are only minutes by car from Dumfries and the surrounding countryside. Portpatrick is a charming and pretty fishing port with a small sandy beach and harbour as the focal point of the village. Take a stroll along the harbour and stop off at one of the waterfront pubs for a drink or a meal whilst enjoying the sea view! There are lots of walks right on your doorstep - Portpatrick is the ’Gateway to the Southern Upland Way’, a 212-mile coast to coast walk from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath in the east. Join the route on the cliffs above the harbour and walk along the coast enjoying the beautiful views over the sea to Ireland. There are lots of other pretty little ports and bays to discover in the area too.
There are many beautiful gardens to explore, including the world-renowned Logan Botanic Garden, Castle Kennedy Gardens and Glenwhan. The area is a cyclist’s paradise with the famous ’7Stanes’ world class mountain biking trails within easy reach.

Terraughtie Cottage West is a delightful semi-detached cottage set along an unclassified road, on the outskirts of Dumfries. Offering a lovely countryside location yet close enough for a pleasant walk or cycle into town, around the local countryside or on the nearby cycle pathways.
The cottage has been completely renovated and modernised throughout in 2023 and offers the perfect home from home. The open plan living is perfect whether you are cooking, dining or just relaxing in front of the cosy wood burner. Beautifully decorated throughout, the comfort continues in the modern and sleek bathroom, and the bedrooms with wonderfully sumptuous beds and linen. Outside you can enjoy the garden with your very own private hot tub – what better way to relax?
Only a couple of minutes’ walk from Terraughtie Cottage West is Kilnford Kitchen and farm shop. Before enjoying a bite to eat, take a stroll through the nature trail where you can see belted Galloway cows or enjoy a spot of bird watching from the bird hide. There is a secret garden where younger members of the family will love exploring. The farm shop stocks everything from gifts and flowers to takeaway meals. There is even an adventure playground for the children.
If fishing is your passion, you can walk/cycle easily to Auldernauk Fishery from the property, a most attractive and well stocked three acre fly-only loch holding good sized rainbow, blue, brown and tiger trout; it is a quiet and friendly family-owned fishery run by anglers. If you can tear yourself away for a day sightseeing, the area is renowned for its rugged beauty, from beautiful sandy beaches, cliff top walks and forest trails. The world renowned 7Stanes mountain biking routes are also within easy reach. The area is well recognised for its clear skies as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, with the Galloway Forest Park being the first Dark Sky Park in the UK. Also on the first floor is a twin bedroom overlooking the village green, and modern and luxurious shower room. Durisdeer is a picturesque village set around the village green, nestling at the foot of the Lowther Hills where you can enjoy an abundance of walks and enjoy the picturesque scenery. The biggest surprise perhaps in Durisdeer is the magnificent parish church. Whilst Durisdeer is the perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the town of Thornhill is only 6 miles away, and has all local amenities including some lovely little niche shops, restaurants and coffee shops.
A must while staying at Keeper’s Cottage is a visit to the magnificent Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens which boasts miles of beautiful walks for you to enjoy. With championship mountain bike trails, salmon fishing on the river, adventure playgrounds and ranger-led activities, there is something to keep young and old alike entertained all day.
Further afield in this beautiful corner of Dumfries and Galloway, there are attractions in abundance from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic clifftop walks along the majestic Solway Coast. A visit to Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wild reserve is a must! With sailing, swimming, horse riding, fishing and golf close by, there is something for everyone.

Rosebank Cottage is a traditional, characterful Galloway cottage refurbished to a high standard. Dating back to the 1800s, it retains many original features including cornicing and window shutters. The kitchen/dining room has an open airy feel and is warmed by a wood burner. Enjoy a meal around the dining table discussing your day’s adventures. The living room/snug also enjoys a wood burner, and with comfortable sofa and chairs makes the perfect place to spend a quiet evening curled up with a book. With an eye to sustainability, the house has wool insulation and has been painted with Farrow and Ball eco paint throughout, non-toxic eco cleaning products are also used.

Upstairs the bedrooms are spacious with stunning views from the bay windows to the front overlooking the garden and open farmland. All linen and towels are organic cotton.

Rosebank Cottage has wonderful outside dining to the side of the house and an enclosed patio area to the front with table and chairs. The front garden is also a haven for wildflowers and plants, helping create a natural habitat for birds, insects and wildlife. Enjoy sitting under the pergola or in the bird hide watching the variety of birds come and go.

Rosebank is situated in the coastal community of Borgue and only 5-miles from the popular tourist town of Kirkcudbright. Borgue has a welcoming village pub and restaurant (about 300m away) whilst Kirkcudbright and nearby Gatehouse of Fleet offer a wider range of restaurants, cafes and independent shops with local seafood restaurants and smokeries. The Solway Coast is close by with sandy beaches and rugged cliff tops to explore, while inland is the vast expanse of the Galloway Forest Park. From coastal walks and rolling countryside, Rosebank Cottage is the perfect location to explore the area by foot, bike or car. Within 10-minutes you can be at Brighouse Bay or Carrick Bay offering coastal walks, beaches and beautiful sunsets. The roads and tracks are perfect for leisurely cycles and walks.

There is an abundance of activities with sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including National Trust Threave Gardens and Logan Botanics. Central to 5 of the worlds renowned 7Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. Kirkcudbright with its bustling harbour is a must for a visit. Stroll through the town and visit Broughton House, once home to Scottish painter E. A. Hornel. The town boasts Kirkcudbright Galleries, hosting art and historical exhibitions like the Galloway Hoard. Kirkcudbright is known as ‘the artists’ town’, having hosted generations of painters, craftmakers and artisans. The town attracts visitors throughout the year, drawn in by the harbour, the historic high street and the diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. The popular programme of summer festivities culminates with the spectacular Tattoo.
Wigtown is about a half hour drive, known as the book town, it has no less than 20 bookshops plus a book festival in the Autumn.

Dumfries and Galloway is steeped in ancient history, with hill forts, cairns and battle sites never far away. Robert the Bruce spent a lot of time in the area. Robert Burns is ever present wherever you go, especially in Dumfries where you can visit his house.

Kipp Away is a brand new, high-end caravan in 2021, set in the grounds of the Coastal Kippford Holiday Park, an award-winning David Bellamy Gold Conservation site since 1997, with its spacious grounds and wonderful views; it is the ideal base to explore the area.
Kipp Away is delightful with its large open-plan living/dining/kitchen space, with tasteful décor, comfy sofas, and patio doors opening onto the decking, with outdoor furniture and views of the Galloway Hills in the distance. Sit and relax on the decking over breakfast or enjoy the evening sun with a glass of wine! There are two lovely bedrooms, both beautifully decorated, one with an en-suite toilet and washbasin.
Quietly set on the park, Kipp Away is a short stroll from the delightful small seaside of Kippford which has one or two ’cockleshell’ beaches. There are numerous walks and coastal paths in and around the village. A particular spectacular walk is along the National Trust path to Rockcliffe where there is a sandy beach. Walk there and back and enjoy a meal or drink in one of the two excellent seafront pubs in Kippford.
This beautiful corner of South West Scotland is a joy for all ages. Perfect for mountain biking the famous 7Stanes in the nearby forests, or enjoy the many historic castles, National Trust gardens and RSPB sites the region has.
