A statue celebrating Selkirk’s birthplace is located a few doors down from the cottage. The Fife Coastal Path passes nearby and guests can enjoy the beaches and rock pools of Largo Bay. St Andrews (10 miles) offers golf, the University and the beach made famous by the film Chariots of Fire. Visit the fishing villages of Anstruther, Pittenweem and Crail. Edinburgh is 1 hour away. Perfect for walkers and cyclists, there are many quiet roads and paths to explore. Kellie Castle and gardens with its tea room makes for a great walk, and is about 1½ miles away. This is a super location for spotting wildlife, and nearby Gillingshill Reservoir has a variety of water fowl, including coots, little grebes and swans. Look out for rare green sandpipers during the migration season, and in late summer the air is filled with dragonflies and damselflies. The woodland also hosts a multitude of wild flowers in spring.

Four miles away is the magical old harbour village of Pittenween which oozes charm. There is a working harbour where you can watch the boats landing their catch and purchase freshly caught fish for your supper. If you would like to catch your own, fishing is available from the piers in St Monans, Pittenweem and Anstruther. Wander around the old lanes with their coffee shops or visit the harbourside ice cream shop for refreshments. For a walk along the shore, the Fife Coastal Path follows the coast to old fishing villages, pretty coves and sandy beaches where lots of sea life is visible from the shore.

Only a 20-minute drive is the historic city of St Andrews, a popular tourist location which offers a great selection of quality cafés, bars and restaurants, excellent shopping, historic buildings, a harbour and a sandy beach. This ancient fishing village is famous for being the birth place of Andrew Selkirk, a famous 1700’s explorer whom Daniel Defoe based his book of Robinson Crusoe on and there is a statue of him outside of his original home. This area is steeped in history and there are many historic buildings, castles and gardens to visit, namely Kellie Castle, which makes for a great day out and dates back to the 1300. There are numerous visitor attractions and whisky distilleries including Kingsbarns Distillery offering tours.
For guests who enjoy walking, the Fife Coastal Path is easily accessible from the cottage, you can walk various sections of the coastal path and catch the coast bus back to the bus stop which is 200 yards from the cottage. For days out, along the coast is the bustling tourist harbour town of Anstruther offering a great selection eateries, from a Michelin Star restaurant to award-winning fish and chip shops. From the harbour front there are daily ferries and boat trips, between April and September, departing to the Isle of May Nature Reserve, home to colonies of sea birds such as puffins, and the surrounding waters are the habitat of seal colonies.
For golf enthusiasts, there are over 45 courses in this area including the world famous championship courses at St Andrews, only 12 miles away and the local courses at Lundin Links are regularly selected as the final qualifying golf course for the open championship. Anstruther is an interesting area to explore, an old fishing and historic town with red pantile roofs, ancient buildings, cobbled streets with little alleyways and working fishing harbour. There are two sandy beaches for paddling, perfect for exploring the rock pools when the tide goes out and all within walking distance from Pee Wee Cottage. There is a great choice of places to eat, from the Michelin star Cellar restaurant, to award-winning fish and chip shops, restaurants, cafés, ice cream parlour and bars. There are local gift shops, boutique and galleries to visit. In the summer months, from the harbour, boat trips to the Isle of May are available to the world-renowned bird sanctuary and nature reserve, famous for puffins, grey seals and other wildlife in the summer months.
Walk along the Fife coastal path, which passes through the town, to pretty fishing villages and many beautiful beaches and coves. The area is well known for golf courses; Anstruther has a challenging 9-hole course along the shore and many other links courses in the surrounding areas. St. Andrews is a mere 10 minute drive with championship and family friendly courses to play.
