Woodend Farm Barn nestles close to the owner’s home on Woodend Farm, now a 10-acre smallholding where Highland cattle and sheep graze. It was built well before the railway line, which is spanned by two beautiful bridges on the edge of the farm garden.
For many years, the farm operated as an 80-acre pig farm, but in 1999, a 10-acre section was sold off and the new owners completely transformed it. The farmhouse remained, but many of the sheds were taken down to leave just a small section, which was turned into stables. When the current owners took over in 2009, the barn itself was initially used as a machinery store and then a lambing shed, the barn has now been converted into a holiday home with a private hot tub, where guests can relax in the evening with a glass of wine in hand.

Originally a chapel, the building dates back to the 1900s and is located next to the stream and pool where villagers were baptised. Chapelburn is a detached cottage which has undergone a unique and innovative conversion transforming it into a very spacious holiday home. There is lots to do in the area and the conservation village of Kenmore at the east end of Loch Tay has a shingle beach and great views down the loch where guests can enjoy water sports, loch cruises or maybe a spot of fishing. There is a local shop, a post office, deli, the oldest inn in Scotland, restaurants and the Cranog, a reconstruction of an Iron Age stilt dwelling built over the water. Kenmore hosts a traditional ceremony each January to mark the opening of the salmon season on the loch. Set within the owners’ 17-acre grounds, The Old Inverchroskie Kennels is a beautifully modernised, detached stone-built cottage set in an elevated position. Commanding fine views of the grounds and hills beyond, there is a stone patio at the front, perfect for sitting out on sunny days with a glass or two, and a private garden area at the back with another sitting-out area, where you can often see the red squirrels bounding from tree to tree. Although there isn’t an enclosed garden, two dogs are welcome at this pet-friendly property. Inside, the open plan living room and kitchen are flooded with light from the high Velux windows and French doors, and there is a wood burner adding to the sense of comfort within.

Wildlife abounds with red squirrels, fallow deer, hare and endless birds on the property, and pine martens can be seen from a nearby local hide. With a plethora of walks and cycle paths waiting to be explored nearby, including the Cateran Trail, your holiday can be as relaxing or as energetic as you like. The village of Kirkmichael is only a couple of miles away with two pubs, a local shop and tearoom. Pitlochry is 10 miles away with shops, eateries, salmon ladder and festival theatre - a very popular venue which hosts a wide range of productions throughout the year.

The lively towns of Blairgowrie, Perth and Dundee (home of Captain Scott’s ship ’Discovery’) are within easy reach, along with the skiing resort of Glenshee, the largest ski area in Scotland. Beyond Glenshee is Braemar, home to the famous Braemar Gathering, a key event in the Scottish Highland Games calendar and one attended by Her Majesty the Queen every year. There are three whisky distilleries and visitor attractions close by, and with Crieff, Perth and Stirling only a short drive away, you’ll never be stuck for things to do. Just over an hour away are the cosmopolitan cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. If you prefer to leave the car behind, the local railway station provides links to all major towns and cities. Waterloo Farm House is a traditional, stone-built, C-listed, detached cottage with a generous sized garden, providing a wonderful place for couples, friends and families to relax and enjoy this excellent property. Set in the quiet hamlet of Waterloo, it is believed that the original properties in the area were built for the soldiers returning from the Napoleonic Wars or for the widows of soldiers who did not return from the famous battle. It is thought that Waterloo Farm House was built around 1815 and in recent times was a berry farm but is no longer a working farm.
This beautiful cottage has been completely rebuilt internally to provide a modern layout and was just completed in summer 2019, yet still maintains its original charm and character. Waterloo Farm House is in a great location for exploring this picturesque area which you can do on foot or by bike and there are lots of footpaths and quiet lanes directly from the doorstep. The village of Bankfoot is just 1 mile away, with a pavement all the way from the cottage and is very handy for a local store or one of the two local small hotels with bars. The attractive town of Dunkeld is only 5 miles away and makes a great day out with its historic cathedral and buildings, and a good selection of quality restaurants, coffee shops, delis, interesting independent shops, galleries and walks along the River Tay. Birnam is close by and is one of the best preserved historic towns in Scotland. The Arts Centre is home to the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Garden which is well worth a visit. Walk along the riverside and discover magnificent old trees in the Birnam Wood which was mentioned in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The bustling city of Perth is only 10 miles away and is packed with places to eat and drink and has a theatre, museum, swimming pool and a great selection of shops including high street names and local boutiques. The railway stations at both Perth and Dunkeld have frequent services to Inverness and Aviemore, or you could be in the centre of Edinburgh in just over an hour without the stress of finding parking.
