All on one level, the cottage is accessed by the utility room and is a good place to keep outdoor clothing, leading into the open plan living area. French doors lead from the living area to your garden which is perfect for al fresco dining or relaxing with a book and glass of wine whilst admiring the spectacular scenery.

The Victorian tourist town of Crieff is only 2 miles away and a good location for refreshments with quality places to eat and lots of cafés with home baking. There is a deli which specialises in local produce if you are planning to eat in and there are some interesting independent shops, galleries and craft shops. Crieff is an ideal all year round location to visit and holds regular events and activities including a monthly farmers market, Highland games, traditional Scottish music festival and the very popular Drovers Tryst Walking Festival. There is nothing quite like this typical Scottish village which sits on the banks of the River Earn in Perthshire, about 6 miles from Crieff and the same distance from the lovely Loch Earn. About a century ago, a town house dating back to the 18th century burned to the ground in the centre of the village. Rennie Mackintosh was employed to rebuild this house, and this remarkable A-listed dwelling is now available for rent as a holiday retreat.
In the staircase’s stairwell is a photo of Mackintosh’s workbook, in his own handwriting, detailing his tenders for the work. As you enter the house from the street, you climb the panelled staircase to the front door. Located on this level is the living area with an open plan kitchen, leather suite, open fireplace and dining area. The kitchen features a fine Art Deco mirror over the original fireplace. In the front room, windows look out onto the nearby churchyard and river, which is only a minute’s walk away, and to the rear, across garden areas. There is a handy toilet on this level too. As this house is cute and quirky head downstairs to the lower level, where you will find two cosy snug double bedrooms (accessed by another Mackintosh staircase’ different from the ones you entered the property). One bedroom, with a lovely Mackintosh-style bed, has a cosy en-suite with a shower cubicle and toilet, and the second double bedroom has what looks like a wardrobe, which if you open, reveals a full size spa bath with shower over.

Attached to Lochearnside House where the owners live, the lodge was designed to make the most of the outstanding views with the contemporary open plan living space situated on the first floor. A cosy seating/dining area overlooks Loch Earn, and from the kitchen area, fitted with quality appliances, you can enjoy views of the hills while preparing your meal. You can even wake up to great views from your bedroom which is on the ground floor and has a kingsize bed and French doors which lead to a sitting-out area where you can enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of fizz. Loch Earn is located just across the road where you can enjoy use of the foreshore and private jetty.
Give your car a holiday too as there is much to do on foot from your front door. The local shop has a café and there are opportunities to indulge in some bistro style food or fine dining along with a good selection of wine and whisky. There are walks to suit all abilities from a gentle stroll along the loch side to more strenuous walks in the hills, and you can join the old railway route leading to Comrie. The local golf club, Sandy Lyle’s favourite small Scottish golf course, has a challenging nine hole course.
This area is the hub of many outdoor activities and ideal for tackling many of the Munros and Corbetts in the central highlands. Water sports, cycling, golf and fishing are all available in the local area and there is an abundance of wildlife to admire including deer, red squirrels and otters. Look out for the ospreys on the loch in season.
St Fillans and the surrounding area is steeped in history and folk law of clan battles, outlaws and fairies with many historic houses, gardens and castles to visit. To complete your Scottish heritage experience, visit one of the local whisky distilleries offering tours and tutored tasting sessions. Lochearnside Lodge is a good location from which to explore one of Scotland’s most scenic areas and a base to tour central Scotland. Perth, Stirling and Dunfermline are all within an hours’ drive. Craigdarroch Cottage is a quaint, newly refurbished coachman’s cottage which dates back some 100 years. It is located in St Fillans in Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. St Fillans is a picturesque village in a tranquil location set on the banks of Loch Earn. The cottage is perfectly positioned for exploring the National Park and the Southern Highlands. Walking, biking, golfing, fishing, and water sports are among the many activities available. Several walks can be taken directly from the cottage; you can stroll along the old railway or venture into the surrounding mountains, both of which give you a stunning view of Loch Earn. There are ospreys on the loch and red squirrels in the nearby area, as well as deer and other wildlife. After a day in the Scottish countryside, you can relax in front of the wood burning stove in the cosy cottage with its loch view.

You can purchase fishing permits here for Loch Earn. There are two hotels in the village which offer evening meals if you feel like dining out, and a bar service; both are dog friendly.
St Fillans has its own 9-hole golf course (voted the best 9-hole course in Scotland), each hole is challenging, and the scenery is breath-taking. There are many golf courses to choose from the vicinity including the prestigious Gleneagles. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, and Stirling can all be reached by car within 1 hour 15 minutes.
