The twin bedroom has a TV/DVD player in case guests want to watch different programs, a supply of books, and again plenty of space. A large secluded south facing decked terrace with outdoor dining table and chairs is accessed by the patio doors off the living area, and it overlooks the aspen and scots pine tree lined back garden. This is the perfect spot for lunch or to unwind with a glass of wine watching the light changing on the Cairngorms. Keep an eye out for the red squirrels who like to balance on the top of the glass balcony if you’re quiet! There’s plenty of parking and a small enclosed, pet-friendly lawned front garden (the rear garden below the back deck is semi-wild/cottage-style, bee-friendly and accessed by a rough path).

Newtonmore has a well-stocked Co-op supermarket (open daily 7am ‘til 10pm). There is also a post office, pharmacy, barbers, Tweed shop, gift shop, two or three pubs or hotel bars that serve good food, some lovely cafes, an all-day Grill, a petrol station (with convenience store) a takeaway and a restaurant. There are three cashpoints (village hall, co-op and petrol station).

The barns are located on a horse riding school, where all the family are encouraged to give horse riding a try. Once in the saddle you will want to take it up when you get back home. In the heart of Glencoe, an area of outstanding beauty and steeped in history, this detached, single-storey lodge makes an ideal holiday base. Close to Fort William, and surrounded by stunning lochs and magnificent mountains, there is plenty to do.
Explore the rugged West Coast and Highlands of Scotland, visit the Inner Isles by ferry, or take the steam train from Fort William crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct as depicted in the Harry Potter movie. Achd is a traditional, detached, croft holiday cottage, standing alone within its own fenced garden area, with many original features, whitewashed stone walls, sloping ceilings and wood panelled walls in the bedrooms imparting much comfort and charm, and located just ½-mile from the village. There is much to do for the outdoor enthusiast (a free slipway for small boat landing is available) with several munros, low level walks, kayaking, sea angling and pony trekking. The sunrise and sunsets are truly stunning and Handa Island, Eas a’ Chual Aluinn and the pristine sandy beaches of Achmelvich, Clachnessie and Sandwood Bay are all within driving distance. Sunrise is a beautifully presented, detached cottage, situated in a stunning location and sitting right on the road of the NC500 route which is one of the top 10 scenic routes in the world. This bright cottage, set in 1½ acre grounds, enjoys commanding views across the sea with the Highland hills beyond. Sunrise is situated in the small hamlet of Navidale, with the charming coastal fishing village of Helmsdale just over a mile away. Fishermen can be seen fishing for lobster, crabs and clams along the coast, and visitors can often purchase fresh local shellfish direct from the boats. There are miles of shoreline walks close by, and fossils are regularly found along this particular stretch of coast. Helmsdale has a good selection of restaurants and small shops, as well as a fascinating museum detailing the unusual history of the area, including the 19th century gold rush. There is also a 9-hole golf course in the village and the renowned course of Brora is just 10 minutes’ drive away. Travel north to visit the Castle of Mey, John O’Groats and even the Orkney Isles. Loch Leven, which is just a short walk away, boasts a variety of water sports, including kayaking and canoeing. The Nevis Range gondola and the Jacobite West Highland steam train are a short drive away in Fort William, and from which you can view some of the most spectacular scenery on offer. Fort William, the ’Outdoor Capital of the UK’ is just 13 miles away and boasts a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.
Take the short crossing on the Corran Ferry and head for Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly point in Britain, or the beautiful island of Mull. The area is steeped in history, and coupled with the magnificent natural terrain has been used as a backdrop in many well-known films such as Harry Potter (Glenfinnan Viaduct) and Braveheart. A short walk will take you to the Isles of Glencoe Hotel and Leisure Centre with its swimming pool, and a regular bus service is available.
