Shrewsbury town offers an array of shops, bars, and restaurants for guests to enjoy and there are also Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty close by, including the Wrekin trail up to the hill fort, Mortimer forest and the Shropshire and Welsh hills beyond. The Barn at Whitefields is situated on the national cycle route 81, between Aberystwyth and Wolverhampton, which will also appeal to cyclists. Visit the city of Telford with it’s fabulous shopping centre, parks and world-famous Iron Bridge and Gorge museums.

Set in the pretty village of Llangunllo, The Old Smithy is an attractive 4 bed cottage with a homely wood burning stove. A hot tub also awaits you, with views of the rolling hills of Radnorshire. The location is perfect for walkers as you can find lovely walks right from the front door, including Glyndwr’s Way. The games room is accessed from the roadside. There is private parking for 2 cars across the road from the house. There is a welcoming, traditional local pub within the village that serves a good selection of beer and ale. Other pubs, serving food are found in the surrounding villages, no more than 15 minutes away. Local activities include the well recognised Griffin Lloyd clay shooting ground and Phil Price Rally School. Llangunllo is 6 miles from the market town of Knighton ,best known for Offa’s Dyke and 9miles from Presteigne. There are many attractions including The Judges Lodgings, Spaceguard Centre, Small Breeds Farm, Elan Valley Reservoir, Red Kite Feeding Station and Powis Castle. The market towns of Hereford and Ludlow and Hay on Wye are all in between 45/60 minutes away and all offer a variety of attractions.

There is also a second seating area off the dining area that catches the morning sun.
The Coach House is situated just outside the village of Baschurch which is near Shrewsbury and Ellesmere. Baschurch offers pubs, takeaways, churches, a large convenience store, and a cash point. The local bus, which operates between Shrewsbury and Ellesmere, collects and drops off on Springfield Barn main drive allowing guests to leave the car behind.
Shropshire is a gem of a county with so much to explore within easy reach, and is home to Ironbridge World Heritage Site and numerous National Trust sites including Attingham Park. Shrewsbury town offers fantastic fresh dining, individual shops, craft markets, museums, art galleries, and the stunning Dingle set within the Quarry Park. It hosts the famous Food Festivals and events throughout the year, there is always a lively atmosphere in the town. It has a reputation for fine foods, speciality and antique shops, and even a racecourse. The castle hosts a number of events that run throughout the year, including being a beautiful spot for weddings. There are many walks in and around the town and guests can walk to explore the town or to visit one of the many pubs or restaurants. An excellent base to explore the unrivalled countryside for picnicking and walking, or nearby towns such as Bridgnorth and Bewdley with the Severn Valley Railway, Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Tenbury Wells and Leominster. The cathedral city of Hereford with its chained library and Mappa Mundi are all within a short drive, as are historic houses such as Witley Court, Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, Stokesay and Powis Castle on the Welsh borders. Jackdaw Cottage sits on the Glyndwr’s Way footpath on the edge of the beautiful town of Knighton, within easy walking distance from the Offa’s Dyke Visitors Centre as well as the restaurants, bars and cafes in the town centre. It is on the south facing slope of a lovely small green valley know as ‘the Cwm’. The stone property is 200 years old with exposed stone walls and oak lintels. It has a large, enclosed garden and patio overlooking the wooded valley with private access to the clear babbling brook. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard in 2022/2023 with some beautiful character features throughout, perfect for a family holiday or romantic break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. it’s great for children and your four-legged friends to run about in this open space whilst you watch on, with a glass of something nice and listen to the local wildlife.
Throughout the year there are some lively fairs celebrated, and all year round, you will find an array of antique and gift shops, tea rooms, old inns, good food and friendly locals in Knighton. Local attractions include Offa’s Dyke Heritage Centre, Powys Observatory with Planetarium Show, golf, clay pigeon shooting and coarse fishing. The historic town of Ludlow, Hay-on-Wye with its antiquarian bookshops, and Presteigne all host cultural festivals during the summer months and are just a short drive away.
