In the heart of Criccieth this 17th-century wing of a Grade II listed manor house has been fully and beautifully restored and is now a stylish and comfortable holiday cottage. Set in a wooded enclave the cottage is brimming with character - thick stone walls shuttered windows, two inglenook fireplaces and a stone, steep, spiral staircase.
Criccieth’s surrounding protected woodlands have undulating lawns and an orchard shared with Bwthyn Stabal (Ref QC1199) to enjoy meals in dappled sunlight under the trees listening to birdsong - what could be more enchanting! The property is protected with CCTV in the grounds, focused on the oil tank whilst guests are in residence and on the front door in low season.
This bustling market town, constantly occupied since Roman times, is dominated by Edward I’s magnificent 13th century castle which houses the Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers - Wales’ oldest regiment. Wander Carnaerfon’s streets, browse the craft/shops and take a break at one of the many excellent restaurants, pubs and tea rooms.

Beautifully located amidst unspoilt countryside with lovely valley views, and just a couple of miles inland from Cardigan Bay, the three cottages at Penrallt Y Cordde offer the perfect location to enjoy the Marine Heritage coastline. There are several award-winning beaches nearby, remote sandy coves and small fishing villages nestling amidst the stunning scenery. Tresaith, Penbryn, Cei Bach, Llangrannog and Mwnt are just a few worthy of a visit and several beaches are dog friendly all year round.
The three cottages sit within the resident owners’ 15 acres of land, where they have their own farmhouse and pastures, meadows, woodlands, ponds and stream. Each holiday cottage is different but all are equally comfortable and with unique features. The Grade II listed detached cottage, Bwthyn Barri (ref OW9) is believed to have been built in 1711 and is full of character with beams and exposed stonework, and has an inglenook fireplace with wood-burning stove.
Y Cartws (ref OW8 and meaning ‘cart’), and Yr Ysgubor (ref OX1 and meaning ‘barn’), have been created from an old stone barn and now offer contemporary accommodation in a sympathetic conversion, also with beams, vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework.
The Ceredigion Coastal Path takes in spectacular cliff top views and ‘Cardi Bach’ buses connect with various points along the route. Designated a Special Area of Conservation, Cardigan Bay is home to bottlenose dolphins, harbour porpoises, grey seals and a variety of sea birds. You can take a dolphin spotting boat trip from New Quay harbour, or just enjoy fish and chips and watch them from the harbour wall. It’s no wonder that writer Dylan Thomas was inspired to settle here for some of his life.
There are plenty of attractive towns and villages to discover nearby, including Cardigan and its castle, the colourful harbour town of Aberaeron with elegant painted Georgian buildings, impressive Cilgerran, and bustling Newcastle Emlyn. Cosy pubs, chic shops, antique centres and good restaurants in the area, and for the more sporty, there are plenty of outdoor activities available including cycle routes, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and a canoe centre at Llandysul.
Just a few miles further inland the scenic Teifi Valley offers excellent opportunities for fishing as well as attractions such as the Teifi Valley Railway, the National Wool Museum, the National Coracle Centre and falls at Cenarth.

A yacht club, restaurant and a water sports centre are all within the village, too. The beach is just minutes away for an early morning stroll with the family, or for those more active, for a refreshing swim or jog.

Locally, the beautiful sandy beach of West Dale is within walking distance, or take a short drive to the stunning beaches of Musslewick and Marloes Sands. Not to be missed for the ultimate wildlife adventure, you can take a boat trip from Martin’s Haven to the islands of Skokholm and Skomer where you will be sure to be amazed by the puffins, manx shearwaters, razorbills, harbour porpoises and Atlantic seals to name a few! Avid walkers can also take a stroll along some of the 186 miles of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park footpath that runs from Amroth in the south, passing through Dale and onto Cardigan in the north - be sure to bring along some binoculars and a camera! The coastal resort of Tenby is surrounded by medieval walls which were built to fortify the town, and these are still in place to this very day, compete with arches into the town leading to the cobbled streets and harbour. Neyland is ideally located to discover the delights of Pembrokeshire; it is a short walk from Neyland Marina and the Milford Haven waterway. A great way to discover this stunning part of Pembrokeshire is by hiring some bicycles (available from the marina) and meandering your way along Brunel Trail. This starts in Neyland, once the western terminus of Brunel’s Great Western Railway, and links the picturesque Neyland Marina with Johnston and Haverfordwest. You will pass through Pill Nature Reserve, which is teeming with wildlife and offers picture postcard scenery.
The Barn has been restored to a very high standard with contemporary features throughout. Enjoy a good movie or box set in the evening on the 50” 4K Smart TV which has both Sky and Netflix; on cooler evenings the log burner will provide a cosy focal point and you might even like to enjoy a glass of wine too. Upstairs you will find 2 bedrooms furnished to a high standard and boasting comfortable beds ensuring an excellent night’s sleep; there is an additional bed on the large landing which also doubles up as a den with desk and wired internet port. The spacious modern bathroom has a bath with separate shower cubicle with rainwater-style shower.
The historic town of Pembroke, famous for its medieval castle and the birth of King Henry the VII, is a 10-minute drive away. It is well worth a visit to step back in time and take in the glorious views around the mill pond and take in the town. Travelling further south you with find the Stackpole Estate, run by the National Trust, where you can stroll through Bosherston Lily Ponds to Broadhaven South Beach. Be sure to visit Barufundle Bay, one of the Europe’s most stunning beaches. Locally there are a selection of family attractions all within a short drive, including Folly Farm, Oakwood Theme Park, Heatherton World of Adventure, Tenby Escape Rooms and Manor House Wildlife Park.
The north of the county will reveal such gems as Solva, with its delightful harbour, St Davids, the smallest city in Britain, and the expansive sandy beaches of Newgale and Whitesands; for climbers and watersports’ enthusiasts, the stunning cliffs of the Pembrokeshire Coast and the long, rolling waves of the Atlantic offer great opportunities for surfing, sailing and activities such as coasteering, kayaking and climbing.

Nolton Haven’s sheltered sandy cove and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path are within easy reach of this comfortable, pet-friendly cosy bungalow. At the edge of the small coastal village of Nolton Haven, with its own rear garden overlooking open countryside, this is an ideal home for a relaxing holiday in any season. There is a wood burner in the living room and three comfortable bedrooms and a modern fitted kitchen. Across the lane is its larger ’sister’ cottage Meadowside.
In Nolton Haven you can enjoy a drink or a bar snack at the inn above the cove where a small stream flows out over the beach, which is good for bathing, sun seekers and sand castle builders. There is a small slipway here, rock pools to explore and fossils to hunt for. Above the beach is a small 150 year old Grade II listed chapel, perhaps the most westerly place of worship in the UK, and a warm welcome awaits visitors to the Sunday services.
