There are regular events throughout the year including the Crieff Highland Games and the Drovers Walking Festival. The area provides outdoor activities for all abilities, and if you prefer more strenuous activities, then mountains Ben Vorlich, Ben Chonzie and Ben Lawers provide excellent walking with water sports on Loch Earn and mountain biking. For the less energetic there are riverside walks along the banks of the River Earn and Turret. The area is also steeped in history with historic castles and monuments to visit. Famous for being in the TV show Outlander, Drummond Castle Garden is 2 miles away, as well as other locations seen in the show such as Doune Castle and Hopetoun House. Stirling, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow are easily accessible for day trips. Set in the quiet hamlet of Waterloo, it is believed that the original properties in the area were built for the soldiers returning from the Napoleonic Wars or for the widows of soldiers who did not return from the famous battle. It is thought that Waterloo Farm House was built around 1815 and in recent times was a berry farm but is no longer a working farm.
    This beautiful cottage has been completely rebuilt internally to provide a modern layout and was just completed in summer 2019, yet still maintains its original charm and character. The welcoming and bright living/dining room has large, comfortable sofas, attractive lighting and a wood burner ensuring this space is a cosy hub for guests to gather. Birnam is close by and is one of the best preserved historic towns in Scotland. The Arts Centre is home to the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Garden which is well worth a visit. Walk along the riverside and discover magnificent old trees in the Birnam Wood which was mentioned in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The bustling city of Perth is only 10 miles away and is packed with places to eat and drink and has a theatre, museum, swimming pool and a great selection of shops including high street names and local boutiques. The railway stations at both Perth and Dunkeld have frequent services to Inverness and Aviemore, or you could be in the centre of Edinburgh in just over an hour without the stress of finding parking.
