Auchendennan Farm Cottage (SLLX) is a single-storey holiday cottage; within the house there is a large family sauna which can be used as an ideal way to unwind. Outside on the sun decking, there is a sunken hot tub which is large enough for all the family and powerful enough to give tired muscles a proper massage. Rose Cottage (SRRG) is a single-storey conversion adjoining the owner’s farmhouse. Combining modern and traditional furnishings, the property boasts a superb hot tub and external sun decked area for relaxing and unwinding. Burnbeag (SVVE) is a stunning, detached cottage to the rear of the steadings and has a stream running through its private enclosed garden, which has a decked area and hot tub. In summer, Loch Lomond’s ancient oak woods ring with birdsong. Look out for redstarts, pied flycatchers and wood warblers. Ospreys are summer visitors to the loch and nearby Lake of Menteith. In the high country of Breadalbane, golden eagles may be seen soaring over mountain slopes richly carpeted in alpine plants. Watch out for porpoises and seals and glimpse Loch Lomond’s herd of fallow deer as they bound through the trees. Loch Lomond and Loch Earn are some of Scotland’s prime venues for sailing and water-skiing, while the rivers Balvaig and Teith are popular with canoeists. The Teith is also a great salmon river and one of many places popular with anglers. For golfing enthusiasts, the famous courses of Loch Lomond are just a short distance from the property, with an abundance of courses for all standards within easy reach.
Walking is a popular pursuit, from gentle low-level strolls to strenuous mountain climbs. Ben Lomond, Ben Lui, Ben Ime and Ben Vorlich are among the 21 Munros (mountains over 3000 feet). The West Highland Way stretches from the edge of Glasgow to Fort William, hugging the banks of Loch Lomond and passing through the spectacular mountain scenery of Strathfillan. There are great opportunities for cycling on and off road on National Cycle Network Route 7, which passes through the National Park from Balloch to Killin. The beach is popular for sightings of local sea colonies and it has a lifeguard and boat launching facility. The local shop and pub are just 500 yards away and it is ideally placed to take advantage of the myriad attractions on offer. The village also has a local fish shop, café, fish and chip shop, pub with music (seasonal) which serves food all day, an amusement arcade, children’s playground and a water sports shop, which also hires water sports equipment.
An easy drive is the Norfolk Broads which is a haven for wildlife. The expanse of waterways is best explored by boat, and daily motor launch hire and river trips are available daily with plenty of riverside restaurants and picnic opportunities along the way. Wroxham, known as the capital of the Norfolk Broads, is 12 miles away. For children, visit the treetop adventure park of BeWILDerwood at Horning, Dinosaur Park at Lenwade and Thrigby Wildlife Park.
The traditional seaside town of Great Yarmouth, 16 miles, has a fun fair and amusements, or continue along the coastal path to Winterton-on-Sea. Further afield are the seaside resorts of Cromer and Sheringham, famous for shell fish and the Poppy Line Steam Railway. Further along the coastal route are RSPB and salt marsh nature reserves for excellent walks and bird watching opportunities. Boat trips to visit the basking seal colonies at Blakeney Point Nature Reserve are available from both Blakeney and Morston Quay. A trip to this part of the world would not be complete without visiting St. Bees Head and the long sandy beaches 4¾ miles. The nearest lake is Wasdale with Scar Fell Pike at the head of it. Seafield House stands in the centre of the charming village of Lochinver, on the stunning north west coast of Scotland. With spectacular views across the sea to the islands beyond, this bright and spacious, three storey, detached property provides a wonderful holiday home for larger families or groups. Built in 1800, Seafield House was originally owned by the village shoemaker. The owners have carried out a meticulous programme of renovation throughout, whilst retaining a wealth of original features. Lochinver is a thriving fishing village with a natural harbour. It has a good selection of restaurants, two pubs, small shops and cafes. The stunning white sandy beach of Achmelvich is just 10 minutes’ drive away, and there are numerous sandy and rocky bays along this beautiful unspoilt coastline. Sailing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hill walking, fishing and climbing are all available locally. The area is a haven for wildlife, with deer regularly seen close to the cottage and can even sometimes be seen wandering in the garden. Osprey, eagles, seals and otters are all spotted in the immediate area. There are superb walks and climbs direct from the house and the dramatic peaks of Suilven, Stac Pollaidh, Canisp, Quinag and Ben More Assynt dominate the skyline of this wild and unspoilt Highland region.
