Carmarthen and Llandovery are well worth a visit, offering plenty of shops, traditional pubs and restaurants within a short driving distance. The Dolaucothi Gold Mines are well worth a visit (tours all year round), and Gwili steam railway, the National Botanical Gardens and iconic castles, including Carreg Cennen, Dryslywn and Kidwelly, are all within easy reach, as are the glorious beaches of Carmarthenshire. Maesydderwen, meaning oak field, started life as a working farm and later became a country inn, but is now a collection of delightful holiday cottages, beautifully situated within the living landscape of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The charming market town of Llandeilo, with chic shops and an array of good restaurants, cafes and pubs, is just over three miles away. This holiday property has CCTV and has been renovated by the owners who live on-site, and boasts a fantastic hot tub and comfortable accommodation ideal for families, friends or couples. The property has been awarded Bronze in the Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards for self catering accommodation of the year 2018/2019 (3 units or more). There is an abundance of wildlife to see and enjoy from the grounds including woodpecker, siskin, marsh tit, goldfinch, nuthatch and wild roe deer. Red kites can also often be seen soaring overhead and there is a feeding station a 20-minute drive away. You can leave the car behind and enjoy wonderful walks directly from the cottage. If you can drag yourself away from Maesydderwen, there are the beautiful castles of Carreg Cennen and Dinefwr nearby, and the dammed lake of Llyn Y Fan Fach at the western border of the Black Mountains. The National Botanic Garden of Wales, 11 miles, with its great glasshouse dome at its centre, is a year round attraction, and within the Brecon Beacons National Park there are masses of paths and trails for walkers, runners, cyclists, mountain bikers, golfers, horse riders and wildlife watchers. Adrenaline sports such as paragliding, canoeing, rafting and abseiling can also be organised within the national park. Fishing is available in the nearby Towy Valley. Beach 30 miles. This lovely 1900s barn was formerly a cow shed and milking parlour, and has been converted to a high standard with luxury fixtures and fittings. It is situated on a working beef and sheep farm with a pedigree Hereford suckler herds, sheep and goats and lies adjacent to the owners’ home. This semi-detached property is all one level and has a family bathroom, a double bedroom with en-suite facilities and a twin bedroom. The corridor leads to an open plan living space and the fabulous fitted kitchen has all the necessary appliances you could need. There is also a lovely breakfast bar for you to enjoy your meals whilst looking at the open countryside through the patio doors. The living area has a wood burner, ideal for keeping you cosy on those colder evenings, and patio doors lead out to a patio area and the garden, great for exercising the dogs, and children. After a long walk, imagine relaxing in the private hot tub just looking out onto the rolling green hills – perfect!
Ammanford itself has a coffee roastery serving fantastic coffee as well as breakfasts. There is also a large selection of shops, supermarkets and local pubs, some serving good food and with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and castles. Pantyffynnon station is within walking distance of the property on Heart of Wales line to Shrewsbury or Cardiff in the other
direction.
There is also plenty to do in the area, with the beaches of Gower approximately 18 miles. The lovely old market town of Llandeilo, situated on the River Towy, is just 6 miles away with boutiques and galleries, and hosts various festivals throughout the year, including the Jazz Festival and the Gin Festival. For those wanting to explore the local countryside, there are plenty of walks from the property and some great biking trails. Beach 12¾ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Come and enjoy the delights of Tynval, nestled on the edge of the rural hamlet of Bronwydd Arms near the market town of Carmarthen. This beautiful, single-storey barn conversion was once the milking parlour and part of the once busy Cwmgwili Mill Farm, which is steeped in history and dates back to the 1600’s. The mill, which is on the side of the farmhouse, stopped working in the 1950’s. The mill first produced flour and then was converted into a woollen mill which produced blankets for the war. The farm was built by the owners of Cwmgwili mansion, which is a short walk up the hill, and served as the source of food for the estate owners many years ago. The owners have meticulously restored Tynval and retained all the quirks and charm throughout, with vaulted ceilings, beams, exposed stone walls and solid teak flooring offering a superb barn for your family to enjoy.
Here at TynVal we are trying to be energy self-sufficient to reduce our carbon foot-print, you will notice we have solar panels on the roof which we can produce up to 7kwh and we can store 10kwh with our battery storage,every thing within the cottage is powered by electric so during the summer months we don’t need to take any energy from the grid, so we would ask guests kindly if they would use the energy we produce wisely.
It is just a 5-minute drive from the market town of Carmarthen and 15 minutes from the beautiful seaside village of Llansteffan, where the famous salmon river, the Towy, joins Carmarthen Bay. Here you can also visit the ruined castle, dating back to the early 12th-century, along with the Iron Age earthworks still visible to this day and which once controlled an important river crossing of the Towy. Enjoy a walk to discover this castle and its epic views overlooking the sand flats and the Towy river mouth.

Carmarthen has everything on offer with many restaurants specializing in home cooked organic produce, craft shops, galleries, a cinema and traditional markets. Nearby is the Gwili Steam railway and the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, which is home to the largest span glass house in Europe. Aberglasney, a few minutes away, is is said to be one of the finest gardens in Wales and surrounds a restored Grade II listed mansion which is perfect for cream teas whilst enjoying the scenery.
Travelling west is the historic township of Laugharne, the hometown of the famous poet Dylan Thomas, here you can view his writing shed, his former home and enjoy some fine locally brewed ales in his favourite pub.

Nestled in the rolling Carmarthenshire landscape above the Cothi River, lies Ynyswen: a truly enchanting haven steeped in history and charm. Guests can discover famous castles of the west including Carreg Cennen, Kidwelly and Laugharne, the final home of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and his iconic boat house. Hoglets Cottage has been renovated to a high standard in 2023 and offers a home-from-home comfort with added luxury. It enjoys fabulous views of the rolling hills and walks/cycling straight from the door. The views from the verandah are superb and you can sit in the hot tub in the evening and watch the stars and listen to the local wildlife whilst sipping something fizzy.
Enjoy the stunning scenery of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains, or further afield, visit the Gower Peninsula, Britain’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its beautiful sandy beaches. Cardiff, the vibrant capital city of Wales, offers many places of historical interest, bustling shops, nightlife, stadiums and concert arenas. Hoglet Cottage offers a fantastic base to discover this wonderful area The Swansea Leisure Centre and Waterpark is a firm favourite with visitors of all ages with a lazy river, wave pool, the board rider for indoor surfing and the master blaster rollercoaster waterslide, as well as the maritime museum and marina. Cycling is very popular in the Afan Argoed Country Park and golf and horse riding can also be found locally.
Nearby Pontardawe has a swimming pool, indoor bowls, leisure centre and arts centre with cinema. The lovely old market town of Llandeilo, situated on the river Towy, is just 9 miles away with boutiques and galleries, Llandeilo hosts various festivals throughout the year, including the jazz festival and the gin festival. There are two bedrooms to the ground floor, the first of which has excellent access, with doors out to a lawned patio area, an adjacent bathroom with bath and walk-in shower and flexible sleeping arrangements with a kingsize bed that can be split to two singles. The second ground floor bedroom is also flexible with a double bed to comfortably sleep two adults as well as a bespoke single bunk, this offers additional sleeping space for a child. The third bedroom is on the first floor of the barn and oozes luxury. The super kingsize bed shares stunning views of the countryside and boasts its own luxury en-suite shower room with a fully tiled walk-in shower.
Despite the rural setting, Y Gelli is perfectly placed to explore some of the nearby attractions. In under 30 minutes by car, you could be exploring the beach and country park at Pembrey, visiting picturesque Welsh towns along the River Towy like Carmarthen and Llandeilo, or immersing yourself in history at Kidwelly Castle! If that’s not enough, you can visit the world’s largest single-span glasshouse at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, tee-off at one of the nearby golf clubs, or check out some horse racing at Ffos Las Racecourse. The Cabin offers peace and relaxation with beautiful views across the rolling Carmarthenshire countryside from your elevated decked terrace - perfect! The Cabin offers ramped access and once inside offers a great space to unwind, the spacious kitchen, diner and living room is teaming with natural light, high vaulted ceilings, beams and enjoys a focal flame effect log burner in the living room and French doors lead out to a gorgeous covered terrace, great for alfresco dining or watching the evening sunset. The master bedroom boasts an en-suite wet room facilities with walk-in shower and heated towel rail, high quality linens and finished to a high standard throughout. To the side of the cabin, you can enjoy a secluded and private lawned garden, that’s dog proof, where you can BBQ or enjoy a spot sunbathing!
From the doorstep enjoy walks through the grounds and onto the woodland which connects to the public footpaths, ideal for keen walkers and your furry friends. The cabin is close to the hamlet of Bancyffordd and around 4 miles from the market town of Llandysul and has been positioned in a truly stunning spot overlooking green meadows and woodlands.
The town of Llandysul is a few minutes’ drive away by car with cafés, restaurants, pubs and supermarket, the historic market town of Newcastle Emlyn is 20 minutes’ drive away. There are over 60 miles of glorious coastline in Cardigan Bay with lots of beaches and coves, and many are dog friendly all year round if you are bringing your pet on holiday with you. The pretty coastal resort of New Quay and the colourful Georgian harbour town Aberaeron can be easily reached within a 30 minutes’ drive. If outdoor activities are your thing, there are plenty of options for walkers and cyclists of all abilities as well as horse riding, canoeing and more. Families can enjoy a day out at the National Trust Dolaucothi Gold Mines at Pumsaint. Beach 17 miles. Pub and restaurant 2¾ miles.

This converted smart and spacious barn offers holidays in the beautiful Teifi Valley, close to the small village of Capel Iwan and the Cardigan Coast. One well behaved dog is welcome.
