Take the short walk to picturesque Lostwithiel, an ancient stannary town on the meandering Fowey River. It is the popular Antiques Capital of Cornwall with many quirky gift and craft shops as well as a regular farmers’ market. Refreshments are readily available from several excellent local restaurants, pubs, cafes and take aways.
The riverside park is perfect for a summer stroll, with the river the home of trout, salmon and sea bass. The breath-taking Luxulyan Valley, with visual reminders of mining long gone and the world famous Eden Project are must visits, the latter protecting under its huge biomes, the world’s largest indoor rainforest. The nearest beach is at Par, with a long stretch of golden sand backed by dunes and rugged inlets and caves to explore.
