Golf, horse riding, surfing, bowling, indoor ‘Splash’ pool, fishing, and mountain boarding are all on offer here and the internationally acclaimed annual jazz festival is not to be missed.
Cycle the Camel and Tarka Trails, or take in the rugged beauty of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. The pretty fishing villages of Port Isaac, Tintagel, and Clovelly are close by, and for family fun, there are two adventure parks for children all within 20 miles. Heatherstone is a spacious, detached family home providing extended family and friends with an ideal property in which to spread out and relax. The property is close to Tehidy Country Park with over 250 acres of woodland, walks, wildlife trails and a golf course. The popular beach destinations of Portreath and Porthtowan are close by, and both offer excellent beach cafés and host a range of events.

The area attracts walkers and cyclists with the Coast to Coast trail, which follows the path of an old tramway from Deveron on the south coast to Portreath on the north coast. The family friendly beach at Portreath has a wide expanse of sand and a small harbour area. There are good local shops, a bakery, two pubs and choice of take away. Head slightly south to Gwithian and the famous lighthouse at Godrevy sits proudly on its rocky outcrop. The area attracts seals, dolphins, basking sharks and is a great spot for bird watchers, with the wide estuary at Hayle and marshes at nearby Marazion. Take the scenic coastal train from St Erth into St Ives, home of the Tate St Ives and Barbara Hepworth Museum. Here you will find a great choice of restaurants, bars, cafés and art galleries. Take the short walk to picturesque Lostwithiel, an ancient stannary town on the meandering Fowey River. It is the popular Antiques Capital of Cornwall with many quirky gift and craft shops as well as a regular farmers’ market. The riverside park is perfect for a summer stroll, with the river the home of trout, salmon and sea bass. The breath-taking Luxulyan Valley, with visual reminders of mining long gone and the world famous Eden Project are must visits, the latter protecting under its huge biomes, the world’s largest indoor rainforest. The nearest beach is at Par, with a long stretch of golden sand backed by dunes and rugged inlets and caves to explore. Fowey, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has narrow streets, with boutique shops and fantastic restaurants, whilst St Austell, with historic Charlestown and Carlyon Bay with its far-reaching vistas is a joy to behold.

The cottage’s location is fantastic for exploring both the quaint and scenic countryside as well as the fantastic beaches on the coast, with the nearest shop being just a short walk away in the hamlet of Tregaswith, and lots of pubs and eateries to choose from in St. Columb Major down the road.
Set off on a surfing expedition to Newquay’s nearby world famous Fistral Beach or Watergate Bay known for enjoying incredible waves all year round, with surf schools here to teach beginners all they need to know!
Choose from several beaches along this stretch of coast, including Mawgan Porth Beach, Great Western Beach, Lusty Glaze Beach, Towan Beach and Crantock Beach, all of which are dog friendly all year round, so you’re sure to find a spacious spot for your group!

Sandpipers is a pretty, upside-down holiday cottage adjoining the owner’s farmhouse and is one of three characterful cottages at this location. There are two cosy bedrooms downstairs and a light and modern open plan kitchen/living space upstairs. There is a large TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs, books and games to keep you entertained or simply curl up with a book and unwind on the comfy leather sofas. With its own private garden, you can enjoy a lazy breakfast while making plans for the day ahead, and you are welcome to use the owner’s fields for games or exercise.

Holsworthy is a historic market town just 2½ miles away with a good selection of local shops, a supermarket, amenities, a golf club and an indoor swimming pool and leisure centre. The village of Pyworthy, with its popular village inn and restaurant, is just ½ mile away. Bude is nearby with its historic castle, vibrant town centre and great range of good restaurants and bars and is perfect for a day out. While water sport enthusiasts can try their hand on the surf at one of the fabulous beaches. There is a range of water sports and fishing available at the nearby Tamar Lakes, as well as coastal and country walking, golf, surfing, horse riding, cycling on the National Cycle Route which passes by the cottage, or simply relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. There is something for everyone in this stunning location. With pretty fishing villages and spectacular beaches and coves dotted all along this coastline from Padstow, Tintagel, Crackington Haven and Bude in Cornwall to Westward Ho!, Clovelly and Instow in Devon, and for a great day out, the famous Eden Project is within easy reach. Fairview (CWC561946) is a reverse level, semi-detached cottage with an entrance on the first floor and a large living/dining room, a cosy wood-burning stove, there is a west-facing conservatory down a couple of steps with sofa and access to a small private garden. A family bedroom on the first floor provides a level living area for those with a mobility issue. On the ground floor are further bedrooms and a family bathroom. Barn Cottage (CWC562587) is also a reverse level, semi-detached cottage with two bedrooms on the ground floor.
This is a real farm experience, fresh free-range eggs are available from the owners, and there are a number of walks across the delightful 150 acres. This is a dog-friendly property however please note that it is a working Beef and Sheep farm, so dogs must be kept under control.
Further along the coast is Sandymouth, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland which has a magnificent church with an amazing painted ceiling and one of the tallest towers in England. Hartland Quay has a hotel and Wreckers Bar as the coast here is littered with wrecks and is a lovely spot for some lunch. Also well worth a visit is the world-famous fishing village of Clovelly. The cobbled, traffic-free, high street is built into a cleft in a 400’ high cliff and tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port. Beach 2 miles.
