The medieval harbour is also maintained by the National Trust. Nearby Tintagel is inextricably linked to the legend of King Arthur and is steeped in history. A visit to the English Heritage site of Tintagel Castle, where legend and historical fact alike meet stunning scenery, is a definite must while in the area and for Arthurian enthusiasts, it is unmissable!
    There are many beaches in the area for surfers and sunseekers alike including Trebarwith, Bossiney and the Castle Beach. Much of the North Cornish coastline is owned by the National Trust and is a haven for wildlife, providing fabulous walking opportunities with many well-trodden routes. There are many pretty coves and inlets to discover along this coastline including Crackington Haven, Boscastle and Morwenstow. A little further to the south is the fishing port of Padstow and quaint Port Isaac of Doc Martin fame, and 15 miles to the north is the fabulous coastal town of Bude.
    If you fancy crossing over the border into Devon and enjoy open spaces, then Dartmoor National Park is 30 miles or so to the east where you can enjoy a day of walking and discover the vast moorland and roam the craggy landscape, defined by forests, rivers, wetlands and rock formations or tors. Or search the Neolithic tombs, Bronze Age stone circles and abandoned medieval farmhouses in this amazing landscape! Beach 2¾ miles. Pub and restaurant 50 yards.
