Crackington Haven, EnglandMadison is a lovely Swedish designed, detached holiday property situated not far from the beach and benefiting from being just under 8 miles from the popular seaside town of Bude. The property can comfortably accommodate eight guests with all rooms on one level.
There are three bedrooms; one with a super kingsize bed, Smart TV and a lovely en-suite with a multi spray unit, double walk-in shower plus a bath and the other two both being twins (one with a handy sink in it). There’s also a family shower room, again with double walk-in shower. The living space consists of a comfortable living area with Smart TV, a separate dining room with a double sofa bed and a conservatory with seating, a telescope and access to the rear garden and patio. The kitchen/breakfast room offers everything you’ll need for your stay and the utility room has a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer and coffee machine.
Outside is a large rear garden consisting of trees, lawn and a patio with a big dining table, perfect for outdoor family gatherings. Children will love running in and out of the trees and bushes and hidden away is a quiet sun lounging area. To the front of the property is an additional garden area and parking for up to five cars on the driveway. Then there’s the games rooms which can be accessed via the side of the building, where you will find table tennis, air hockey, darts, table football, a games console, a TV and even a toilet.
If it’s the beach life you’re looking for then you’ll be spoiled for choice with the nearest beach being just 3 miles away. Much of the coastline in this area is owned by the National Trust and is a haven for wildlife, providing fabulous walking opportunities. There are many pretty coves and inlets to discover within a short drive including Crackington Haven, Boscastle, Morwenstow and stunning Tintagel, inextricably linked to the legend of King Arthur. Further afield the fishing port of Padstow is a popular tourist destination. Bude is a fabulous coastal town and has something for everyone including great beaches, rockpools and cafés to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the Southwest Coast Path offer you a superb opportunity to explore the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and a heritage centre at Bude Castle.
Madison is also perfectly located for you to discover the many natural delights that North Devon has to offer such as Exmoor National Park with its magical night skies in Europe’s first ‘Dark Sky Reserve’, the many rugged coastal towns and quaint villages such as Hartland, Lynton & Lynmouth, Ilfracombe and the world-famous Clovelly Village. - Crackington Haven, EnglandGreat Trevillian Farm is a working sheep farm and offers a well-stocked carp lake for a spot of fishing, a children’s play area and the opportunity to feed Boris and Donald the Kune Kune pigs and pat the friendly ponies.
Tizzy Barn (CWC488161) is a beautiful barn conversion that boasts superb open plan living downstairs yet maintains a traditional feel. There is a cosy wood burner and comfy sofas which will make it a treat for a winter break. At the other end of the building is a set of French windows that open out into the enclosed patio garden. Upstairs the master bedroom has bi-fold doors to a Juliet balcony and an en-suite shower room. Ash Tree Cottage (CWC563734) is a pretty, stone cottage, converted from stables in 2003, there is an open plan living space, a warm and cosy bedroom, and a sun trap of a patio for al fresco dining or a glass of something cold while you plan your days ahead. Trebethis (CWC566710) has tiled floors, a beautiful granite fireplace made from three gateposts, exposed beams, including a massive ash beam that separates the kitchen from dining area, all combine to exude character in this superb barn conversion. Honeysuckle Cottage (CWC566741) has been converted from a 400 year old cart house. Inside you will find a bright and spacious open plan living area that welcomes you in, while both bedrooms are tastefully decorated and enhance the ambience. The property has been updated with a larger main bedroom with kingsize bed and a new bathroom with walk in shower. There are French doors that lead out onto a secluded patio garden, a perfect spot to soak up the Cornish air and sunshine, read a book or enjoy your favourite tipple. Located a few miles inland from Crackington Haven which has pebbles and rock pools at the top of the beach but as the tide goes out a vast expanse of golden sand is exposed with some of the best surf on the north coast.
To the north is Widemouth bay and the bustling tourist town of Bude while to the west is the stunning and infamous village Boscastle, nestled in a steep valley where the river has cut a course through the steep cliffs to the sea. There are secluded coves, majestic views, wildlife and even a blowhole. Whilst being within a few seconds walk on a private walk way to the hustle and bustle of Tintagel Village, you can still enjoy the peaceful serenity that Mews Cottage offers being in a small secluded area from the village. Mews has a free parking permit available which is provided by the owners.
The historical cottage, built around the 1890’s and was a former stables for a local Inn, feels bright and stylish whilst maintaining the rustic feel of the property. The coast is within a 10-minute walk and the nearest beach at Bossiney Cove is just 1.3 miles away or a 25-minute walk across the fields. Within easy reach are the coastal villages of Boscastle and Port Isaac, the latter made famous by the TV series, ’Doc Martin’. Further along the coast are the golden, sandy beaches of Rock and Polzeath. Plenty of walking and local paths perfect for the family, and prime dog walking places on the doorstep of Mews Cottage. Trebarwith Strand a 10 minutes drive is a perfect beach for this, dog friendly all year round, but is also accessable via the coastal path past St Materiana’s church. A family bedroom on the first floor provides a level living area for those with a mobility issue. On the ground floor are further bedrooms and a family bathroom. Barn Cottage (CWC562587) is also a reverse level, semi-detached cottage with two bedrooms on the ground floor.
This is a real farm experience, fresh free-range eggs are available from the owners, and there are a number of walks across the delightful 150 acres. This is a dog-friendly property however please note that it is a working Beef and Sheep farm, so dogs must be kept under control.
Further along the coast is Sandymouth, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland which has a magnificent church with an amazing painted ceiling and one of the tallest towers in England. Hartland Quay has a hotel and Wreckers Bar as the coast here is littered with wrecks and is a lovely spot for some lunch. Also well worth a visit is the world-famous fishing village of Clovelly. Twelveheads, EnglandThis pretty little cottage sits in the owners’ beautifully maintained garden, deep in the Cornish countryside and provides an ideal base while visiting many areas of Cornwall. Although nearer the tranquil south coast, the dramatic north coast, with its excellent surfing beaches, is easily reached. The Little House is just yards from the ‘Mineral Tramways Trail’, one of Cornwall’s many cycle networks that links the north coast at Portreath to the South coast near Falmouth. It is popular with walkers, cyclists, horse riders and sightseers as it passes through a rich mining heritage area, dotted with old mine archaeology. A cycle hire centre, shop and café are approximately 1 mile from the front door, right on the trail itself. Other amenities available locally are fine sandy beaches, shopping, cinema, restaurants and Pendennis Castle, perched high on Pendennis Point. Falmouth is also home to the National Maritime Museum, two yacht marinas and numerous National Trust gardens. A ferry to the Roseland Peninsula and a sightseeing trip along the River Fal to Truro are also available from one of the town quays. Truro is the capital city of Cornwall and less than 5 miles away, with excellent shopping in the cobbled streets, fine dining in its many restaurants, bistros and cafés, a theatre and museum.
