    Polperro, England
Nestled in a quiet lane just minutes from the heart of the ancient smuggling and seafaring village of Polperro, this charming riverside lodge offers a rare gem – front parking and a delightful terrace along the river, perfect for alfresco breakfasts or evening barbecues. A large balcony off the living room provides an elevated view over the lush garden, enhancing the tranquillity of the setting. Immerse yourself in the allure of Polperro, where the quaint working harbour and narrow winding streets house fisherman’s pubs, galleries, bakeries, cafés, restaurants, and shops offering local seafood and crafts. The lodge serves as an ideal base for an unforgettable Cornish holiday.
Venture to the historic fishing port of Looe, a short distance away, boasting a superb sandy beach for family outings. Explore the renowned fish market, where fresh catches are sold straight from the boats in the harbour. Sheltered bays such as Talland and Lantic provide excellent swimming and bathing against the dramatic Cornish coastline. Nearby access to the scenic Cornish Coastal Path invites visitors to traverse stunning landscapes, much of which is on National Trust land.
For a touch of literary history, catch the ferry across the River Fowey to the famous seafaring town of Fowey, once the home of Daphne Du Maurier. The region’s abundance of vineyards, orchards, and gardens, a testament to the mild climate, includes the spectacular Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan, both within half an hour’s drive. Equidistant is the ancient fishing port of Mevagissey, with its vibrant double harbour showcasing traditional vessels and pleasure craft.
For those drawn inland, discover wonderful attractions like Bodmin Moor and the Slate Caverns near St. Neot. Plymouth, just 25 miles away, offers additional options for exploration. Whether you’re interested in fishing, sailing, riding, tennis, golf, or simply relaxing on the beach, this riverside lodge provides an enchanting retreat in a captivating corner of Cornwall. The local shop is a short half-mile stroll, and the pub and restaurant are conveniently located just 200 yards away.
