Enjoy the mile of golden sand that stretches down the coast, where you will find the locals’ favourite beach bar, pizzeria and Rick Stein’s famous ‘chippy’, a great walk with a superb reward.
Newquay provides an abundance of attractions suitable for the whole family, from wide sandy beaches, restaurants, beachside cafes, a zoo, a Sea Life Centre, parks, sports centres, swimming pools, surf schools, sea fishing, go karting, horse riding and golf. The golf course, which is adjacent to the beach, is within walking distance, as are many of the local attractions. Surrounding the town are many picturesque and secluded villages with quiet spots to get away from the hustle and bustle. Padstow and Watergate Bay are also close by and home to Rick Stein’s and Jamie Oliver’s restaurants (booking essential).
Further afield will bring you to the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock House and many other National Trust gardens and historic houses. Twelveheads, EnglandThis pretty little cottage sits in the owners’ beautifully maintained garden, deep in the Cornish countryside and provides an ideal base while visiting many areas of Cornwall. Although nearer the tranquil south coast, the dramatic north coast, with its excellent surfing beaches, is easily reached. The Little House is just yards from the ‘Mineral Tramways Trail’, one of Cornwall’s many cycle networks that links the north coast at Portreath to the South coast near Falmouth. It is popular with walkers, cyclists, horse riders and sightseers as it passes through a rich mining heritage area, dotted with old mine archaeology. A cycle hire centre, shop and café are approximately 1 mile from the front door, right on the trail itself. The world famous Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Lizard Peninsula, which is the location of Lizard Point and the most southerly point of the country, are all easily accessible from the property. The ancient seafaring town of Falmouth is approx 6 miles away, and provides an excellent centre for many activities such as sailing, windsurfing, pleasure trips and diving. Other amenities available locally are fine sandy beaches, shopping, cinema, restaurants and Pendennis Castle, perched high on Pendennis Point. Falmouth is also home to the National Maritime Museum, two yacht marinas and numerous National Trust gardens. A ferry to the Roseland Peninsula and a sightseeing trip along the River Fal to Truro are also available from one of the town quays. Truro is the capital city of Cornwall and less than 5 miles away, with excellent shopping in the cobbled streets, fine dining in its many restaurants, bistros and cafés, a theatre and museum.
