Situated 300 metres from the beach, this holiday home lies close to the village of Elmer and within half a mile along the beach of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which stretches several miles from Elmer to Littlehampton. The beaches in this area remain quiet, even during the busiest summer periods and with man made rock islands just off the shore and accessible at low tide, the beach is wonderful to explore and is ideal for swimming, fishing, windsurfing and walking. Elmer is an ideal location to explore many of the attractions of the south coast from bustling Brighton, 25 miles, to the east to historic Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight to the west. In between there are beautiful places such as Chichester with its cathedral and festival theatre, quaint Arundel, 5 miles to the north with its castle, river, antique shops and famous wetland bird centre, Goodwood and Fontwell race courses and the beautiful South Downs are all close by. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Set in most picturesque and private cottage gardens, this detached cottage is just two miles from Arundel and has an abundance of footpaths to the South Downs on the doorstep. From the gardens and upstairs windows there is the most glorious outlook and the garden beckons guests to relax and enjoy those lazy summer days. The cottage is bright and traditionally furnished and is a comfortable size for up to six guests. It has three upstairs bedrooms the master bedroom has a kingsize bed with an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a standard double bed and the third bedroom with a dual outlook, gives a fresh and bright feel and is fitted with twin beds, the family bathroom completes the property. The gardens here just encourage and welcome you outside and offer complete privacy. They are neatly maintained offering many areas to meander around and explore. There is a raised path which guests need to take care when using that really open up the views over the Sussex Downs.

There are many attractive period properties in the village and it’s a delight to wander through, including the Norman Church of St Mary’s where you can walk through the church grounds and the views quickly open out onto the Arun Valley and the South Downs. This area is ideal for walking and from the lower slopes of the Downs there are wonderful views to the coast and to the east and west. Arundel two miles away is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle that can be seen to the south of Burpham. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tea rooms. It’s a great place to visit and just enjoy the hospitality during any day of the week.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years and is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep which dates from the 11th Century to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort. Beyond the castle grounds is Arundel Park which is clearly visible across the valley from the cottage. The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds lakes and reed beds at Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the pub for a bite to eat or just some liquid refreshments.

Further afield Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach. Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well. If you fancy a day in the city, Arundel mainline station is on a direct route to London so why not mix the cosmopolitan capital with this great place to stay.

Have you ever considered staying in the Duke of Wellington’s Headquarters? Well now is your chance! Hastings Old Town is the location of many festivals offering fun and frivolities. Whether it is the Jack in The Green May Day celebrations, Fat Tuesday, Carnival Week, Bonfire Night or the Old Town’s Food and Wine festival to name just a few, you are sure to have a great time. Why not visit the UKs steepest funicular railway located only a few minutes walk away and take one of the original Victorian coaches up to the top of the West Hill to visit Hastings Castle and St Clements Caves, the location of the smugglers adventures.

Offering a choice of adventure, crazy golf or pirate golf, you can test your skills on the beachside courses. Hastings adventure course is home to the annual World Crazy Golf Championships. The Old town also benefits from Hastings Contemporary Jerwood Gallery, the Fisherman’s Museum, Blue Reef Aquarium along with an abundance of seaside favourites such as fish and chips, doughnuts, arcades and the Flamingo Amusement Park. The apartment is also within walking distance of Hastings with its pier and town centre with Hastings mainline railway station allowing you to get access to the capital in just under two hours.

Nearby towns of Bexhill, Eastbourne and Rye are all worth a visit if you are driving, and nearby locations such as Winchelsea Beach or the sandy beach of Camber also offer another option alongside Hastings seafront. Parking can be found in the public car parks at Rock a Nore and Pelham Place at cost, and a short walk to free parking for four hours or unrestricted on road parking.

Steyning High Street is flanked with a bounteous collection of Grade II listed houses and cottages in a charming range of styles and sizes, and Causeway Cottage is no exception. Stepping inside, the front door opens into the embrace of a genteel sitting room in the oldest part of the house. With comfortable, elegant seating, an inglenook log burner and Smart TV, the ancient lath and plaster wall remains on show in the corner to reveal the architectural history of this home dating back to 1435.
From the sitting room, one doorway leads to the main staircase to the first floor, and another door brings you into the kitchen where an electric Aga stands proudly in the middle. Through the kitchen a separate dining room looks over the garden through leadlight windows. From the family room there are steps up to a gorgeous old oak door into bedroom three, but as the access is particularly low, we suggest using the main staircase from the living room. At the top of these main stairs are three bedrooms and a family bathroom. Do take care throughout this Grade II listed home as there are several low doorways and beams, all part of the charm but can catch you if unaware. Outside and accessed through the kitchen and family room there is a wonderful walled garden, planted with traditional flowers and shrubs between brick pathways in classic cottage style.

Steyning is a picturesque and vibrant small market town. Well preserved, it is full of narrow streets with many timber-framed Tudor style buildings as well as some fine Georgian townhouses. Its High Street retains many small and attractive independent shops, tea rooms and restaurants and makes Steyning an interesting town to browse. The Norman church contains some of the best Romanesque architecture in England; visit Steyning Museum next to the library which tells the story of the area from prehistory to the present day. The small village of Bramber next door has remained largely unchanged over the centuries and is overlooked by the remains of the castle built after the Norman Conquest.

Just west of Steyning is the famous landmark of Chanctonbury Ring on the South Downs, a three mile walk from the Roundhill above the town where you can pick up the South Downs Way. Cissbury Ring, another Iron Age hill fort is a picturesque 3-mile walk from Chanctonbury and provides wonderful views over the Downs and out to sea; on clear days Chichester and the Isle of Wight are easily visible from Cissbury. To the east there is fine walking along the South Downs Way towards Truleigh Hill and beyond to Devil’s Dyke and Ditchling Beacon. There are spectacular long range views en-route, both inland over the Weald and out to sea over Shoreham by Sea and Brighton.
The Downs Link is located just north of Steyning, a 37-mile shared route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders that links the South Downs Way with the North Downs Way.

The living area features deep comfortable sofas, a roaring open fire and a large Smart TV with Netflix, perfect for cosy nights in with friends and family. A door leads out to the pretty enclosed garden to the rear of the house, with a patio, barbecue and lawn perfect for children and dogs. The smart kitchen area is fully equipped with double oven, dishwasher and washer/dryer, the large table seats six for a get together over home-cooked food and a glass of something delicious from the wine store in town. There is also a small separate toilet on this level. On the ground floor there is a small second living room/study with Smart TV, a serene space to enjoy some quiet reading time or close the door and catch up with work. Next to the study is a twin bedroom with en-suite walk-in rainhead shower. On the first floor the master bedroom has kingsize bed, Smart TV and another en-suite with walk-in shower.
