The locals are justifiably proud of this region with its rich local folklore which tells of tricking the devil, mermaids, shipwrecked kings and princesses, and even an explanation of why gulls sound as if they’re crying. Town House II is situated in a prime position in Scarborough, just a short walk from the North Bay. All the bedrooms have TVs and en-suite facilities, and the icing on the cake is the enclosed hot tub in the courtyard!

The town and shops are within walking distance with a great indoor shopping centre and lots of boutiques, and for those who prefer the nightlife, there are plenty of bars, restaurants, clubs and a casino. Just around the corner is the Scarborough cricket ground where the famous Scarborough Festival is held each year, an end of season competition featuring Yorkshire County Cricket Club. For those who love a faster sport, there’s Oliver’s Mount racing track with high powered road race bikes. As you walk to the beach you pass one of the entrances to Peasholm Park. Take a detour and walk around the park with its stunning gardens, lakes and waterfalls. There are boats and pedalos, and in summer, a brass band to entertain you. The park is famous for the Naval Warfare Battle where model ships re-enact a battle on the lake. It’s great entertainment for the kids and has been for the last 80 years.

One of the best things about Scarborough is that it has two bays, quite different from each other. The South Bay is a traditional seaside resort with donkeys, amusements and shops, whereas the North Bay is much quieter and more relaxed. Half way between the two bays, the castle stands proud on the cliffs above. You can walk the full length of Marine Drive from North to South Bay and it’s nice and flat making it easy for that evening stroll. If you prefer, there are the open top buses that run along the seafront. At the far end of North Bay is the Sealife Centre and the open air theatre, one of the largest outdoor theatres in Europe where international acts play during the summer.

Further down the coast is Filey, Flamborough and Bridlington. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton is worth a visit where you can see puffins in their natural habitat. North of Scarborough are the beautiful North York Moors, and Whitby, a bustling fishing town famous for Whitby Jet Jewellery and the Goth weekends. You are only an hour away from York, a beautiful medieval city where you can visit the Railway Museum, take a leisure cruise on the river or walk the city walls which surround it. Beach 700 yards. The white chalk cliff above St Margaret’s Bay is said to be the first place the sun reaches each morning on mainland Britain! The beach is famous for being the closest point to France and is the spot where Channel swimmers begin their marathon 21 mile swim.

The coastal path leads to the famous White Cliffs of Dover, gateway to England and now one of the UK’s protected Heritage coasts offering some of the best cliff coastal walking in the country. The lighthouse is the place where Marconi transmitted his first radio broadcast to France. Closer to France than London, bring a passport, catch a ferry from Dover and visit the French markets in Calais and Boulogne for the day.

Tapestry House is a spacious mid terrace property situated on a quiet side street just a two-minute walk from the beach in the bustling harbour town of Bridlington on the stunning Yorkshire coast. A short drive out of town is the RSPB reserve at Bempton and wonderful cliff top walks at Flamborough Head, whilst nearby are various historic houses and gardens such as Burton Agnes Hall and Sewerby Hall. The unspoilt rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds offer a plethora of walking and cycling opportunities whilst the Cultural City of Hull and ancient walled City of York are both under an hour#s drive away. With breathtaking views over Cardigan Bay, the properties are located just 100 yards from the cliff top. Gwbert-on-Sea is a small, quiet hamlet on the shore of the mouth of the Teifi Estuary, just a couple of miles outside Cardigan. The settlement takes its name from the wandering St Gwbert, said to have landed here and taken shelter in a cave. The shoreline is marked by rugged cliffs and small shingle bays, with large stretches of sandbank exposed at low tide, and the area gives superb views over a diverse and scenic landscape. The ancient oak woodland of the Teifi Valley, the tidal marshes of the estuary, and the boundary of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park can all be appreciated from here.

The 18-hole golf course at Cardigan Golf Club also offers fine views of the estuary and sea, and from the headland you can look across to Cardigan Island. The mud and sand flats of the estuary attract a great variety of birds, and in the autumn waders such as the redshank, oystercatcher and curlew can be seen feeding here, along with several species of migrating duck. The headland of Craig y Gwbert is the site of an Iron Age Fort, with pieces of pottery found near Gwbert, now on display in Cardigan museum. All the outside areas are covered by CCTV. Beach 7 miles.
