Wonderfully located on the slopes of Rydal Fell, and approximately ¾ mile from the centre of Grasmere village, The Old Coach House is a comfortable and traditionally furnished apartment. Set within Wood Close, a large Victorian, stone-built country house which is divided into several independent properties, The Old Coach House has been refurbished to a high standard and offers many modern amenities and facilities while retaining its traditional character and charm.

The spacious living/dining room looks out over the gardens from the panoramic windows, and is furnished with a sofa, easy chairs and farmhouse dining table and chairs. There is a large-screen Smart TV, comprehensive sound system and a wide selection of local books, information guides, walking maps and board games. The modern kitchen has garden views and is well-equipped with a multi-function oven/grill, induction hob, wine cooler, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, TV and breakfast bar. The bedroom also overlooks the garden and has a kingsize bed with 100% cotton bed linen, an antique wardrobe, a wash basin and a Smart TV. The bathroom is equipped with a roll-top bath, electric shower, toilet and washbasin. The heating is thermostatically controlled heaters.

Within Wood Close, there is a laundry room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, shared with the other apartments, with an honesty box to cover costs.

Wood Close has 3 acres of grounds, comprising of woodland, gardens, a panoramic terrace and sitting out area, all of which can be used by our guests, and which are also shared with the other apartments in the house. From the terrace, there are dramatic views of Grasmere lake and Loughrigg Fell. There is a small, unfenced pond and stream in the grounds, which is home to red squirrels and many species of birds, and where wild deer are also occasional visitors. Each apartment has its own allocated parking space, with private parking for 1 car specifically for visitors to The Old Coach House.

This homely holiday apartment retains all of its traditional charm for a peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable holiday in the heart of the Lake District. It is an excellent base for walking, with easy access to the fells, Alcock Tarn, and the famous ‘Coffin Route’ directly from the garden. There is a gentle downhill walk to Grasmere village (passing William Wordsworth’s home at Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Grasmere centre on the way), and from there are easy routes to both the lower and upper slopes of the village’s surrounding fells. In the village, you will find an attractive selection of bars and restaurants, and a wide variety of shops, including a small supermarket, post office, newsagent, chemist, baker, outdoor equipment retailers, gift and art shops, a garden centre and the famous Grasmere gingerbread shop. The graves of the poet William Wordsworth and his family are situated in St. Oswald’s parish churchyard. Ambleside, 4 miles, and Keswick, 13 miles, offer a range of further shops, attractions and amenities, and there are several historic houses and gardens locally. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

This single-storey, detached holiday retreat, adjacent to the owner’s farmhouse, has a hot tub and stunning rural views. Converted from a sheep fauld and set on a family-run livestock farm, surrounded by unspoilt countryside. It is 2 miles from Birdoswald Fort on Hadrian’s Wall, and centrally located for the Lake District, Northumberland, the Yorkshire Dales and Scottish Borders. Visit Talkin Tarn, Walltown Crag, Lanercost Priory, Rheged, country shows and farmer’s markets. There are footpaths from the door along with walking and cycle routes throughout the area. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

This delightful holiday cottage adjoins the owners’ Grade II listed, 18th-century farmhouse. The original features have been combined with modern fittings to create a comfortable holiday home. Situated within a village it has direct access to Hadrian’s Wall and the coastal cycle route (72). It lies 3 miles west of Carlisle and is a short drive to the Scottish Border, Lake District and Northumberland’s National Park, and is close to the Solway Firth. Fishing can be found nearby. An excellent base for those wishing to explore this area. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Converted from the old milking parlour, this single-storey cottage has been comfortably furnished to provide a delightful holiday home just for two. The property boasts its own hot tub, and the owners provide dressing gowns and slippers. Situated alongside Mark Close Farmhouse (ref 13314), The Milking Parlour is within a 15-20 minute walk from beautiful Alston, with its great pubs, cafés and shops. The town is central in the North Pennines and lies on the borders of Northumberland, Durham and Cumbria, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, referred to as ’England’s last wilderness’, and is also said to be the ’Highest Market Town in England’. The cottage occupies a fantastic position, central to the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian’s Wall, the Scottish borders and Northumberland’s coast and castles.
The property is set in an enclosed garden with panoramic views over green fields and wild fells. In the paddock next door to the cottage, there are five very friendly Alpacas. The area remains unspoiled by large traffic queues or intrusive tourism. The town has a beautiful cobbled street with public houses, mini markets, petrol stations, butchers and bakers.
Go for a ride on Alston’s narrow-gauge railway, follow Isaac’s Tea Trail or browse in the excellent gift shops. There’s fishing, riding and golf nearby, as well as Killhope and Nenthead Mining Centres. Follow some of the local ramblers on the Pennine Way. Walk over Crossfell (the highest point in the Pennines) or search for the sources of the four great rivers to which the North Pennines gives rise, the Tyne, the Wear, the Tees and the Eden.
The glorious coast and countryside of Northumberland are within travelling distance as are the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Borders. There are water sports at Talkin and Keilder Water. Or perhaps some retail therapy in the Metro Centre Gateshead which is only an hour away, one of Europe’s largest shopping centres with restaurants, multi-screen cinemas, playland and bowling alley. Alternatively, just stay at home and relax in front of the fire or relax in the gardens hot-tub whilst enjoying the surrounding views.

These two attractive holiday lodge chalets (refs B5697 and 30250) have been furnished and equipped to a very good standard. Tucked away in a very pleasant position, they are two of a small group of eight chalets, which sit on the National Park boundary; with peaceful rural views across the local countryside towards Skiddaw. They are conveniently situated just off the A595 Cockermouth to Carlisle road, making it an excellent choice for guests wanting easy access to the Northern Lake District and the Scottish Borders. Cockermouth is 5 miles, Keswick 12 miles and Carlisle 18 miles. Beach 8 miles. Shop and restaurant 6 miles, pub 1 mile.

Nestling in a clearing of trees, at the foot of Helvellyn and close to the shore of Thirlmere, Dale Head Hall’s Victorian coach house, set within the grounds of one of lakeland’s finest hotels, has been carefully restored and converted into five apartments offering delightful holiday accommodation amidst breathtaking scenery. The walking and wildlife from the doorstep is excellent. There is a stunning walk along the lakeside or for the more ambitious hiker Helvellyn beckons. The popular, bustling market town of Keswick with an abundance of interesting shops, tourist attractions and eateries is five miles. Thirlmere connects to the south Lakes via a spectacular mountain pass, where you can enjoy the many opportunities that Grasmere, Windermere and Ambleside have to offer. An excellent central location for exploring the Lake District.

Situated down a small lane and only a two-minute walk from the centre of Keswick this charming cottage, originally part of a 19th-century coach house, is centrally located to explore The Lakes. Comfortably furnished and equipped, this cottage makes for an ideal base for walking and cycling or for exploring the picturesque town of Keswick with its shops and restaurants. A local park can be found a 5-minute walk away for pets and children to enjoy. Nearby Derwent Water provides boat trips around the lake and in the summer months evening cruises are available. Situated between Carlisle and Penrith, there is easy access to Hadrian’s Wall, the Northern Pennines, the western fringe of the Yorkshire Dales, the Scottish Border and Northumberland. Access to the shore side of the lake, Ullswater, at Pooley Bridge is only a short drive away, with Keswick and Derwent Water, along with Lake Buttermere, being only a little further. The Cumbrian Cycle Route passes near the village and there is good fishing on the River Eden close by. Shop and pubs within ¾ mile.

Caldbeck Common and the village of Caldbeck (4 miles) offer a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. The historic city of Carlisle (10 miles) is just south of Scotland.
