Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. This beautiful sandstone cottage which was converted from a former stable is situated in the pretty hamlet of Greystoke Gill, on the fringe of The Lake District National Park. Greystoke Gill has the benefit of east access from the M6 and is ideally placed to visit Ullswater, Keswick and the Northern Lakes. There is a shop and pub and an outdoor swimming pool in the nearby village of Greystoke, with more amenities in the bustling market town of Penrith, five miles to the East. The cottage itself provides the perfect retreat at the end of a good days walking to relax and unwind in tranquil surroundings. Aptly named, Waterhead Studio is set right on the shore of, and with superb views across Lake Windermere. Apart from the small lake frontage, guests also benefit from a balcony, boat storage area and shared use of a jetty. On the southern outskirts of Ambleside, just ¼ mile from Waterhead, where you can take cruises down the lake. The visitor centre at Brockhole, with its 30 acres of award-winning gardens and grounds, is a great place for a trip to this beautiful area. Home to a series of trails, walks, events and activities, it also has an information centre where you can find out all about the local attractions. Close by are Hawkshead and Grasmere. Both villages are inextricably linked to the romantic poet William Wordsworth. Historians and Wordsworth fans alike will find a visit to either Dove Cottage or Rydal Mount an interesting diversion. Wordsworth is not the only literary connection here; both John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter also lived nearby, Ruskin at Brantwood on the shores of Coniston Water, and Beatrix Potter at Hill Top (NT) at Far Sawrey. There are many ways to explore this often frequented area and each visitor chooses his own path, by foot, mountain bike, car, boat or even horse. An ideal holiday base. Shops and pubs 1 mile.

Woodside Cottage has a fabulous open plan living/dining area with a magnificent wood burner taking centre stage of the room. The outdoor terrace enjoys the sun for most of the day and the side door opens straight into the well-equipped spacious kitchen. Backbarrow is set in the South Lakes Peninsula and is a perfect gateway to explore many popular attractions, the closest being the Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Take a leisurely train ride into Bowness-on-Windermere and witness the stunning landscape as you go. Guests at Woodside Cottage can also enjoy free membership to the health spa and fitness club in the village during their stay, a 2 minute walk away.
Just a 5-minute drive down the road and you are in Newby Bridge, popular for its fantastic riverside pubs and home to the Lakes Aquarium and Windermere Lake Cruises. Take a wonderful cruse across the largest lake in the UK over to the popular town of Ambleside. If walking is more of what you are looking for then you are spoilt for choice, with 214 Wainwright fells within easy reach you have plenty of options to choose from. There are also an abundance of cycling routes close by or if you want to go further afield, there are many other popular Lake District towns to explore such as Grasmere and Ulverston. Why not head over to Grange-over-Sands or Cartmel, famous for its sticky toffee pudding, Michelin star restaurant and horse racing. April Cottage is situated in the peaceful South Lakeland hamlet of Staveley-in-Cartmel, just a stone’s throw away from Windermere and the National Trust park and gardens, Fellfoot. A former Besom store, this traditional whitewashed cottage is perfectly positioned to explore the popular Lakeland villages of Ambleside, Grasmere, Coniston and Keswick, as well as the quieter corners and beaches of the South Lakeland Peninsulas and West Lakes including, Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel and Arnside.

Just a short walk from April Cottage is Gummers Howe, one of the Lake District’s top ten picturesque picnic spots, whilst a host of woodland walks and cycle tracks lead directly from the cottage up into the surrounding fells to offer stunning panoramic views. The nearby, quaint market town of Ulverston, teeming with eclectic, independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants and with entertainment for all ages, is only 4 miles away by car. There are also days out at the Lakeside Aquarium, traditional steam train experience at Lakeside and Haverthwaite, and the popular South Lakeland Zoo which are also just a short drive away.

Beatrix Potter fans will find plenty to interest them at her home at Far Sawrey, near Hawkshead and at The World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness-on-Windermere, whilst art and poetry lovers will adore the delightful Dove Cottage at Grasmere, which was home to William Wordsworth, and the beautiful house and gardens of Brantwood at Coniston, which was home to John Ruskin. After a busy day splashing on the water in boats, hiking over the fells or cycling through Grizedale Forest, snuggle up by the fire and enjoy a cup of cocoa at April Cottage, or head out to the lovely pub close by for a sumptuous meal and drinks on the banks of the River Leven. Orrest Howe is situated up the famous Orrest Head walk in Windermere, set in a beautiful woodland garden. You can enjoy sitting out on one of the many seating areas or end your day relaxing in the hot tub whilst taking in the local scenery.
